So much has changed over the past few years, including the priorities we have at home haha!
Rather than aesthetics, I think ease of cleaning & usage are more practical for the long run.

Undermount sinks will have mold and algae at the joint between the countertop and the sink also (and because it is undermounted it is even harder to get to the joint). The key thing is that the sink and countertop must be one material. I am personally going for integrated vanity cabinet when my BTO comes where the sink itself acts as the countertop so there is no joint for mold and algae to grow.

Agree with the gripes. A more cost effective way to renting though is to take over the cleaning and household chores for a period of time even while living with one’s parents. As for the bathroom sink, I find it needful to clean at least once a week even with ones that have the built in and flushed design. There’s just no escaping regular cleaning 😅

Wahah good point about the cost effective way 😆 yeah I think cannot escape regular cleaning. Maintenance really important 🙏🏻 but hopefully with better design in mind in future I can have an easier regular cleaning time haha!

For the tap, whether to be wall-mounted or countertop-mounted, do consider the situation where you need to do maintenance or replace the tap. For wall-mounted, it is very very difficult to access the pipes and inlet hose so if you ever need to repair leaks or replace a hose or the tap itself, your headache (and bill) will be exponentially bigger than the one you get with the cleaning inconvenience of a tap mounted on the countertop. What I do for my kitchen sink and toilet basins is I have a face towel within reach of each and after every use, I will use that towel to wipe down and wipe dry the countertop areas around the sink/basin. Once you get used to it, it's very "auto" and really doesn't take more than 1-2 seconds. You'll be surprised how clean the sink/basin and its surrounding area will look everyday if you do this. Also helps to maintain your taps and give your toilet that overall "hotel" look. No water spots, no fingerprints, no smudges anywhere. As for the glass screen, I would suggest a shower curtain instead. Cheap adjustable curtain rod and shower curtain will help prevent water splashing all over the toilet floor when you shower. And when not in use, just pull the curtain to one side. Not as elegant, but functional and actually quite effective.

Thank you for sharing this! Didn't consider the part on maintenance for tap repair, something we have to think about now!

My condo got past the point where it wasn't worth to fix up, ended up selling. Got an accurate home evaluation using Homer AI by Ohmyhome, didn't even need to talk to an agent.

good sharing for new couples. 👍 HIP i went through it. IIRC, if you reno toilet within x number of years (5?) you can ask them to check waterproof and if pass the test, you can skip the toilet upgrade. Totally agree about practical and easy to maintain. after our first home, the 2nd one is prioritize easy maintenance. But still can't siam shower glass in Condo. Plugs in high use area. If not getting a bar, whatever you need, add 2 more for future proof. this is especially true for Condo/landed where wires are run inside the wall. For cats, some of my friends installed invisible grilles in toilets. For hobs, avoid glass top. while it may be lifetime warranty (u still have to pay for delivery and install) , you may get injured when it breaks For sink, even the undermount type, will grow mold. You just don't see it but still need to maintain. 🤮

Unfortunately, 1 of our toilet didn't pass waterproofing test, thus we need to go ahead with HIP. Practicality + easy to clean wins over aesthetics when you are staying in your home. We actually used exhaust fan in our toilet so we don't use invisible grills since the windows are closed all the time! (+ remove moisture and humid!) Trying to find the best solution for sink now, stainless steel seems like a good idea so far!

Actually, you may want to use a penknife blade to scrape the buildups stuck on shower glass. I have done and now regularly do so every month

Got chance the water has a lot of sediments from older water tank or water pipes in the building, will mean higher chance of water stains/mould/orange stains. Younger buildings have less of those issues.
@pxdkitty

Yes we experienced that with our water taps currently. :(

I got 2 dehumidifiers for the first 6 months cos the whole house kenna mold. Now, mold is the last thing in my mind. And I got 12 electrical outlets, which is useless because I got a HT system and gaming CPU.
@pxdkitty
@pxdkitty 3 ай бұрын
woah which dehumidifiers did you get? sounds really good!
@wumingkkk
@wumingkkk 3 ай бұрын
@@pxdkitty Novita and Midea. Midea has programming to date and time but it looks very cuby. You need to get the right capacity for the room size. On the dehumdifier every 1.5 days, at least 8 - 12 hrs, make sure the room is sealed tight. The more duration you allow, the better. Must also see how big your tank capacity is. If you use continous drainage, then no need to bother about tank size. You can do this when out of the house. Do not expect 1 humongous dehumidifier to do all the job within a few hrs. It takes time to draw water out. Thats why I bought 2 for different areas in the house.

I thought there is an option to opt out the HIP, considering that your toilets were newly renovated.

Yea there were options to but apparently our master bedroom toilet didn't pass the waterproofing test (leak a little) so we gotta go ahead with the HIP.

Wish me luck, im going to show my wife why practicality trumps everything and we should install a bathroom exhaust fan (like kopitiam type). Somemore the pubor like to bathe with ultra hot water which coupled with my stinky poop makes the toilet a good bacteria breeding ground
@pxdkitty
@pxdkitty 3 ай бұрын
hahaha! we actually installed an exhaust fan in our toilet and the result is really amazing. steam/smell gone within 15mins after shower.
