I think the best difference is onenotes being free, I just bought the new ipadpro and am now somewhat broke

In my opinion Notability is like for aesthetic with cute design note taking. And Onenote is for real note taking for work and studies.

For me. I just need that OneNote gives us the possibility to use A4 pages.

the only down fall OneNote has it doesn’t have the zoom the write feature that follows your writing and when you get to the end of the line it drops to the next line. OneNote also has infinite writing in a line which is not a realistic feel like not ability

i have a problem in printing the notes and converting to A4 size in OneNote. I think there is no option for setting the page to A4 size. (i am using the app on ipad air 3)

one note is just amazing, using the evernote and onennote combo on ipad laptop and phone and I've payed for so many ios apps but always came back to onenote, been using it for years!

Great video Anas Nuur Ali! Clear, sympathetic, and even for me as a German understandable! For me, this is a completely new world, since I use my ipad mini since 3 weeks. I am an Artist, Fine Art photographer and Journalist. As artist I actually like the changing density of the highlighter, because it works like layers in a watercolour picture. As a journalist - like today - I leave all the spacy paperblocks at home, only put the ipad mini in my camera bag (cause I wouldnt take pictures without decent camera) and I handwrite everything with apple pencil! Hurraaa! no seeking for notices anymore, no paper deserts on my table, and even I can take a shortphoto and write the names of the solists or artists directly in the picture, to remember them right, when I write my article at home. As an Artist, I love working on real paper, but for everything else, paper, that you throw away anyway, is a waste of resources. Well, im 65 - working with mac since more than 30 years - and I find, this is the real next step! If you know anything about it, could you make a video about how to let the software learn your handwriting and perhaps create your own handwriting style when you print it on a keyboard? But again, thank you for this video, that helped me a lot: I will use both!

I have my life's work on onenote since year 1 of med school to radiology registrar at present. Think onenote is better except for pdfs. I can read papers/pdf books and annotate them much better on notability.

Notability got one thing right. The recording and sync with the note is a game changer.

How would you export the entire notebook to a PDF? I noticed that you could only export page by page on Mac or any apple products.

I've actually been having issues with oneNote syncing but other than that it's great. Also for highlighting text you can get an even more seamless highliht by selecting the text and choosing different highlight colors for super straight seamless highlights that you can color coordinate

Very useful comparison. Thank you. One piece of viewer feedback - when showing screen recording, can you have it take up more of the screen? (Say ⅔ screen share, ⅓ you talking). It's hard to pixel peep to see precisely what you are refer to in the screenshare.

Onenote is awesome, but there are some major downfalls: - is rubbish at handling big pdf printouts, makes for an enormous file size and therefore sync problems - aforementioned sync problems : really annoying and happens a lot since I've been using it so long and have many pages - the desktop app does not allow setting page size (vs 2016 which allowed to do that) -> hard to print - will refuse to import very big pdfs (annoying for medicine lectures with 200+ slides) So if you take notes by annotating on slides remember this, but personally I still use it despite these problems since it's the best all-round app for note taking in uni I do use notability when the pdfs are too big, and then put a link to the file in onenote. Or I have to use an app to compress the pdf

I tried OneNote on iPad with apple pencil and IPad Pro 10.5. I think it was 2016 and there was no Palm rejection on the iPad pro and i sold it, but today someone told me, one note is crappy on iPad pro because they want to sold their Surface pros. With notability the Palm rejection works fine, i read. Has it changed, does Palm rejection work fine now on iPad with OneNote and apple pencil?

Heyy my content is highly dynamic so if wanna add say a paragraph between on page 5 of a 40 page handwritten document, can I do so by shifting everything down while creating space above such that everything below it moves automatically to next pages accordingly.

Would you be able to note taking while recording with OneNote on iPad? How about tracing back on the section of the recording by clicking on the annotation? That's the reason why I am still hanging on to Surface Pro as oppose to ipad... even though ipad annotation experience is much better than my crappy surface pro.

Thank you. Just rediscovered Notability on iPhone because I’ve embarked on new language learning (that’s what I’d used it for prior, different language). Just wanted to make flashcards (my own writing/drawing) but those apps so limited. Then I remembered (doh!) my laptop is now a PC and no Notability app for. I’ll explore OneNote. Love notability audio record option and wish I could put different clips at specific points in text, maybe OneNote...

I like OneNote better because the pages could be extended almost as much as you like while the page size is limited on apps like notability and goodnote, and I can edit on any devices.

You can also transfer things for word to onenote and vise versa. And sync them up as well

How is a good way to backup OneNote to my external storage device?

Been using OneNote on my iPad Pro for last two weeks and it’s really good but the one thing that I am curious about is if I can use PDFs saved in my Google Drive and edit them on one Drive ... And after editing can those PDFs be synced with the Google Drive PDFs ?

I don’t know it’s my problem or what, it’s seems that onenote has a delay with my Apple Pencil? And I can use my Apple pen smoothly in notability

Where do I take your class notes on. Do you use one note or other app.

Actually, I checked this video for this exact point: to collapse the drawings with the text in the textboxes. I use 2 types of methods to overcome this but wanted to see if there are any alternatives. method 1) I draw the drawings towards the far-right, and text containers to the left, and connect them with the texts using a handwritten arrow. In this way, even if I add some text above and make this page structure messy, my drawings (which are toward the far right) are not messed up but only the handwritten arrows to the texts are messed up. So I just need to rearrange the arrows but not the drawings. method2) which is better than method 1 I write the texts and whenever I need the drawings, I just create a page, draw the drawings on that page, and make a simple text that will act as a link to that drawing page. In this way, drawings aren't messed up even if the page is messed up. Also, linking the texts with the handwritten arrows can work in the following way... consider you have drawn a big diagram and the labeling is to be done from the text(which is now present on another page). Now as the OneNote presents many colors, they can come in handy 😁. Just write the labels which are to be marked on to the diagram with a specific color and make a link to that drawing page. Consider you have 10 labels, write them with 10 specific colors and link all those 10 labels to the drawing page. Now the labels from the text are done. Now open the diagram and use the respective colors for those labels and draw the arrows(say from an empty space above in that drawing page to the actual diagram) on the drawing page. In this way, you can still maintain the structure of the page and use onenote's infinite space and many more features. You can even make that drawing page the sub-page for the page where the labeled text is present. In this way, you can maintain, outside page structures(among multiple pages and sections) as well as inside page structures. I wanted to find out if there are any other ways of doing it or just find another app. But didn't found anywhere(Ive tried the obsidian but the md files was like extra work which makes my work very slow). These techniques came from my frustrated self. 😁

Aside from printing issue, you can’t limit the page size.

The one issue I see with OneNote is that if you want to mix typed text with written text (or highlights on then typed text for that matter), the typed text will scroll down when you insert typing above it but the written text (or highlights) won’t. Suddenly, the typed text and the writing or highlight are no longer lined up as they were previously

The problem with OneNote is the pdf export or print out the note. If OneNote have a option to manage the pdf export function correctly, I will go back to OneNote. Also the recording function will be broken down and the record file will be missing when I use pc to take notes.

My only complaint with OneNote for iPad is the lack of pencil. Don’t understand why we have pencil on the excel and word versions for iPad but not for one note. Pencil only exists on the PC version of one note. For me the pencil gives a more realistic feeling when taking notes.

I think I'm having to give up on Notability. I love this program but it forces me into using separates pages as if I was going to print the information. While there's some comfort in that, too many documents are forced to have odd page breaks rather than one big document. Getting data from Safari into OneNote is a real challenge though.

yes it takes a few steps for notability to change colors but that's why i use GoodNotes. I have OneNote, too, but don't use that as often as GN

You should talk about the price of 365 for the one who are not student, if you get the new ipad pros the double click option can call the color picker, add picture and note on , take hand note is easy.

I use One Note and did not try any other app so far. To me the only negative points of one note are that I cannot open two notes at the same time (which notability has) and that there is not any quick possibility to draw straight lines. But I really love the app.
