I preferred having the Wifi as a device and not installed in the vehicle. The reason for this is you could throw the device in your pocket and have internet when you walked around a city/town. This came in SUPER handy in Reykjavik, especially the first day when you are trying to get your barrings and remembering where you parked your vehicle.

Quick note: WiFi only works when the car drives! It drops out when you park the car! Happy campers did not give a reason why it does that, even when you park and leave the engine running ( nevermind the cost of gas)

I have been watching your videos for a month now, as my wife and I are traveling to Iceland in January 2019, and we both find them all very informative. Your topics are great (along with your bio., and story about relocating to that beautiful country), We will be in Iceland for only 6 days (our farm, and livestock obligations allow for it, at this time), but we both feel confident that we have a good sense of how to travel, and how to take in the best of what this country has to offer in that short time time of our stay. It's ironic although we haven't even been there yet, but we already have given thought on planning to travel back again to Iceland in the future, this time planning a road trip via renting a Camper Van for real overland travel adventure in a warmer month, probably at the end of the height of the tourist season (we always travel internationally out of season, as much as possible). Thank you, travel safe, and keep up the great work!

Did that in Iceland, was difficult, the wind at the end of June gave me headache in a second and my ears were in physical pain😂 my back hurt from not having a mattress, but its all not important... i was surprised by people, travelers and locals... why everyone was so pissed and seemed suffering all the time? instead of enjoying the nature... i haven’t seen a single smile there... all 9 days in Iceland... people just never smile? Even never smiled me back to me when i was smiling to them:( i felt so sad and frustrated, first country like this i meet...

I wonder what places you went to lol Also many locals are not really happy about the camper vans cause many people who drive them always decide to camp on other peoples lands without permission and end up damaging their land. But this you were describing sounds rather unusual. :/

@DerKatzeSonne

Tents might suck more if you have very high winds and rain. Also it’s annoying to set up the tent in a different spot every day. Just a thing to consider.

I know there is a Camp Pass you can buy that allows you to stay at certain camp grounds. We want to come in July. Are these campgrounds quickly filled up and can I use the card elsewhere?
@IcelandwithaView
@IcelandwithaView Жыл бұрын
July is peak season for travel in Iceland and is also one of the best times to camp! If you're able to plan out your day-to-day itinerary, go ahead an book your campsite but many campers prefer to travel on a whim and thus campsites are usually booked on location. The camping card offers discounts at gas stations for food, drinks, coffee, and fuel! Here's the link to learn more about the camping card: utilegukortid.is/?lang=en

Thank you so much for your videos, just discovered your channel and I love it!! I have a question about renting a camper van: would you recommend to do a camper van road trip in March? I find your videos highly interesting and think you do a very good job in representing Iceland to foreigners. Keep it up. There is just one thing that I want to mention regarding this video. You do not mention that it is not allowed to stop your car just anywhere in Iceland. I've seen these cars all around just parked overnight, in carparks, by the side of the road and even on a horse trails!!! Another thing you don't mention is that these cars have no toilet facilities and therefor people think that they can do their business anywhere without cleaning up after themselves.

Are dogs quarantined when visiting iceland? I'd like to visit, but I dont like small cages in large, smelly, noisy, strange places without my owner.
@be.A.b

They do get quarantined. The permit process is more aimed for moves and long term stays. Dogs where banned in Iceland till the 80s. A lot of people in Iceland are scared of dogs because they aren’t a popular pet and aren’t used to them. Hope all that changes!!

Hi Jeannie! Thanks so much for the tips! I am coming to Iceland is August and I have a couple of questions. Hope you can help! We were going to rent a camper van, but as a way to save a bit of money, we are going to rent a car instead, bring sleeping bags + tent, and then rent the cookware + WiFi. Is this a bad idea? Are we going to freeze in the tent? Haha. Also, have you ever heard of the camp grounds reaching max capacity in the summer time? Is the camping card with it for 6 nights? Thanks for your awesome videos. They are so helpful!

Jeremiah Tenney hi! I just got back from Iceland and plenty of people were camping in tents! I was a little cold in my campervan but I just turned on the heat. I’m sure you will be fine. Just plan accordingly for all types of weather. (You really will get all the seasons!) I’m not sure how much it rains when you are going, but the one thing I wish I had were rain pants. I just had quick dry pants and those didn’t cut it. Since you are staying in a tent you won’t have a place to dry your clothes. I would recommend good rain pants ( and a rain jacket) so you don’t have to worry about wet clothes! I would get the ones that are kind of that plastic material that look funny but will definitely keep you dry! (I hope that explanation makes sense!) Have a great trip!

Hi Jeannie: I am very pleased I stumbled across your channel as it is very informative and helpful for planning my future Iceland trip. Because I am a fairly low-budget traveler and would like to self-guide my adventures, I would think that the camper van be the best way to do my trip. However, I am aware that most rental companies do not allow people of a certain age to rent cars or campervans in this case. (Here in Canada where I live I am still not old enough to rent a basic car) As a 20 year old, would I be able to rent a campervan? If not, how old must I be?

Jeff LaPlante I found the average price to be between 1200 isk (about $12) to 1900 isk (about $19) per person. I went to google maps and typed in Iceland campgrounds. I selected ones with higher ratings and looked at the comments. Some people did post the prices there. Some places do charge for showers. I found that average cost to be between $2-$4. Hope that helps!

dominika nowicka hi! I can’t speak for happy campers, but my campervan did have some dishes (2 plates, a knife, a can opener, a small pot, small frying pan, 2 cups) I didn’t really use much of if because I mainly ate sandwiches. Hi Jeannie, we already booked from another company a campervan for 7 days in July but without insurances (gravel protection, super collision SCDW, SAAP and theft protection TP). Now, I don't know how risky is that, is it better to take that insurances? Thank you for all!
@kymberleerogie4298
@kymberleerogie4298 6 жыл бұрын
Nnsableable hi! I just got back from Iceland and I got the premium insurance because I was nervous about renting and wanted to be covered. 2 days into our trip, our radiator broke. We called the company and they gave us an emergency number to call. We called and they said we needed a new radiator... paid for out of my pocket. So I’m not sure what the insurance actually covers since I had to spend $1000 of my own money to fix their campervan. If you don’t get the insurance, just check over EVERYTHING! Check the engine, all the fluids are filled and maybe ask for previous maintenance records. I’m trying to work with the company I went with to get my money back. I hope you have better luck with a car then I did! Have a great trip, it’s a beautiful place!

That sounds very wrong. No insurance would cover damages due to wear. And no car renting company would or should bill a customer *ever* for broken things that are simply wear. I mean what’s next? Oh the tyres don’t have enough profile anymore after you gave the car back, so you need to pay for new tyres?
