When I graduated nursing school, my dream specialty was pediatrics. Somewhere along the line I discovered trauma nursing and fell in love. I moved to the surgical/trauma ICU floor in September 2020 and I can truly say that I am content. Here are 5 reasons why I feel like the Trauma ICU is for me.

I’ve always wanted to be an ICU nurse. During my senior year of high school, I was part of a program called HOSA. We would shadow nurses at the local hospital. I went to a CVICU and my life was never the same. I loved it. I just started a new grad program for med surg, but I’m moving and will have to apply at another new grad program. I speak ICU into existence! Please, share some interview tips. 🙏🏿 Btw, you are beautiful!

When I graduated, I wanted to go straight into ICU and build on all the knowledge I had learned in school but I was advised to do step down med surg for a year because of the knowledge base in critical thinking you must have to work ICU, well I became completely discouraged and got completely away from bedside and went into HomeHealth. did go into Med Surg for 2yrs with the Army which I loved but had my 3rd child, couldn’t work the floor anymore. Now my youngest is 4yrs. I am thinking about going back to the floor to work ICU. I am currently working in Homehealth hospice as a RN Case Manager due to the flexibility of schedule. Smh

I felt the learning curse will be soo steep and stressful trying to go into ICU because I have been away from Med Surg for 4yrs. Feels like I don’t remember nothing.

Hey Chrissy, it's never too late to work in the ICU!! All you might need is a little refresher to bedside nursing. you have to ask yourself if you're better off starting in medsurg for a year before jumping to the ICU.. OR going straight to the ICU. but i must say that going to the ICU , i had to do lots of studying and reading of diagnoses and medications and etc. it will be a big transition from slow to fast paced. its up to what youre willing to take on. but overall, you can definitely do this !

Just found your channel and I've really enjoyed watching your videos as I've gained a recent interest in working in the ICU as a new grad:) I had a question- I never got the chance to do a placement in the ICU or any critical care unit, do you think that it's wise to start off on a different unit to get more experience first? I've heard different sides because I've also heard you learn so much by starting off in the ICU. Thanks for sharing, this video was super helpful!
