Let's take a look at 5 records to setup and optimize your HiFi, your HiFi will thank you. Speaker placement is crucial to develop a true, spatially accurate 3D stereo image. In my years and years setting up speakers and HiFis, I have used these records many times and bonus, none of them are really expensive "audiophile" approved records, although after this video, they just might be. In reality, there is so much great music out there you can use that it could as well be 500 records to setup your HiFi.
Enjoy and thanks for watching!

Danny you’re killing it. Congrats to your over 200 subs already simply insane. The Race is also one of my go to tracks. So good. When I heard it back then on an audiophile system i was dumbstruck. I immediately bought the record. Couldn’t put it to better words. The soundstage is especially the depth is phenomenal. The race car is everywhere in your room. Hey Danny- Born and raised in South Pas, just up the road from you. Good luck with the channel! There are (2) limited edition, hand signed (3,000) box sets (sold out) of Eva. I was lucky to get turned on to her early and score both. You’ll need to “pony-up”today to acquire these great releases. The first is Eva Cassidy’s “Vinyl Collection” a 6lp box set that includes her 5 solo lp’s and a bonus disc. The second box is the INCREDIBLE live x 7lp 45rpm 180g “Nightbird” from Blues Alley. They’re out there but becoming very hard to find and becoming very pricey, very quickly. She is amazing and her story is so very sad. Thank goodness the guys from Blix records were able to capture Eva in an amazing live performance that will blow people’s minds….SHE WAS THE BEST EVER!

Hi Danny, Just started to view your channel, I am thoroughly enjoying it chap. I have been a audiophile nut for a long time and have gone through many systems and finally settled with what I have now. Agreed! Eva Cassidy sounds amazing, I believe I picked this up due to 45 RPM Audiophile's recommendation, and also Blues Alley was my old stomping ground in the 80's, saw a lot of good shows, including Albert King and Billy Cobham to name a few. Good choice for system test on your woofers (Roller from Billy Cobham), yeah I know it is recorded digital but still a good mix.

Great picks! I am going to totally investigate that Paul Horn album - sounds incredible! So nice to see someone give love to classical - and not just any old classical, but Varese of all people. I have both those records and they are indeed fantastic (I believe the Nonesuch is engineered by the great Marc Aubort/Joann Nickrenz team). I've actually sung in Royce Hall with the UCLA choir and it is a very special venue, both for performers and audience (heard Laurie Anderson do an incredible gig there on her Moby Dick tour). They can actually vary the reverberation time with movable panels on the side walls, so it works for every kind of music. Those Mehta Decca records are amongst my most prized LPs. Also so happy to see some love given to Yello, a terrific band. I have many of their records on vinyl, including Flag, but not that 12" (now added to the purchase list) If you are a Kraftwerk fan seek out the very limited 12" of Expo 2000 - sensational sound. Loving your channel and have subscribed.

Paul Horn is the only one of these I can attest to and I love it so much I've got both Mushroom and Kuckkuck pressings ( plus a cassette) . They all sound fantastic. The Kuckkuck press is going to be German and direct metal mastered ( DMM) . Mushroom is Canadian as is Mr. Horn. I appreciate the booklet that comes with the Mushroom pressing , great images and story behind it. Have you listened to Steve Douglas' Music of the Cheops? I believe it came out a year before " Inside..." Same concept, but not quite as ambient in my opinion. I've often marveled at how inexpensive Horn's ITGP is.... however you might have single handedly changed that. Haha. Digging your channel btw!

One could argue all of your picks are known by audiophiles for sound, I have them all but the Paul Horn. The Varese is a TAS super disc, you cant get more audiophile than that. A couple of great percussion records on this theme: Constant/Stockhausen - Percussion 14 stations, on Erato. The other is Pulse: Works for Percussion and strings, New World 319 also reissued by Classic Records.

True....... but, at least for now, you don't hear them all too often. Hey, at the end of the day, there's SO many amazing sounding records that by definition then become "audiophile" though I really dislike that term, always have...

I love the concept of "normal" record. I understand the time and effort (and cost) of putting out something like Kind of Blue, but I'm always wonder why something recorded this year, wouldn't sound good. Recorded in DSD, pressed on vinyl, whatever, why more records than I desire don't sound that good? I have several normal records that you suggested and all sound very good (Mavis Staples, Jesus Fucking Christ! amazing record)… the only one not that good was Memoirs of a Geisha… great record, noisy pressing (two copies). This was a great show, thank you for your time too.

This got me thinking about other albums that qualify. While I own their whole catalog, and it is incredible, Kraftwerk's Electric Cafe is next level sound reproduction. Title is "records" not "vinyl records" therefore 2 record I would suggest : 1. "Tabula Rasa" by Bela Fleck , Vishwa Mohan Bhatt , Jie-Bing Chen (was available in SACD format) Label : WaterLily Acoustics Recoded by Esoteric Audio Research (EAR) (it is Tim de Paravicini, modified (vacumized) reel-to-reel Ampex - no mix - no process - direct into 2 channel stereo ) 2. "Tous les matins du monde" soundtrack - Jordi Savall - Label : Auvidis

The problem is ... sound sources sound different from system to system. We need to know what are the supporting audio components you use to do the evals ... TT, Arm, cart, pre-amp, amp, speakers.. FWIW.

one of the big problems in audio... there are no standards really. 4K, color temperature, etc. hence, it's all subjective... for the most part anyway

@@SonicFlare If there's no baseline for sonic performance, there's no accurate means of evaluation. After 60 years solid state gear still sounds like solid state gear and vacuum tube gear still sounds like vacuum tube gear and ... more true to life. If your listening activity centers around music appreciation then vacuum tube gear is your only real choice. If your listening activity centers around finding the flaws in recordings then all you're really doing is listening to your system. Solid state equipment- which tends to be bright sounding and accentuate high frequencies will help you identify flaws but has little to do with true to life, live sound... just high priced test equipment.

@@Big-J-8579 Now now Jer ... aren't you being a bit touchy? Doubts about your system? You're entertaining the idea of purchasing "the best" remastered version (for$100.00 U.S.) on vinyl(no less) of a Kind of Blue recording made in 1958 that was recorded with condenser mics utilizing a vacuum tube... three into a 2 channel vacuum tube recording console that is connected into a tape recording machine implementing vacuum tubes in it's circuits and that during playback for mix down is listened to on a playback audio system implementing you guessed it ... all vacuum tubes! Moreover ALL of your favorite recordings from the late 50's and early 60's.. the most collectable, were all recorded, mixed down and manufactured in the same manner. After all is said and done the original pressing from back then(with all those tubes) sounds the best over any of the remastered ones in the last few years. I'm a trained musician from a family of musicians and I've been listening to all kinds of gear and recordings and ... live music since sitting by my father's side starting around 1960. Have you noticed how "vintage" gear is much more desirable these day as people will pay through the nose for it? It's "Back To The Future" now. The home audio industry peaked in the early 60's ... before solid state gear was introduced into the marketplace. Enjoy listening to your system..

@@donvito8652 Not at all touchy about my systems. I have four of them and love them all. They all sound a little different. My comment was pointed towards the snobbery element in your comment about the audio gear you like. I also disagree with your statement the home audio industry peaked in the '60s. Far from it. In the '60s things were just getting started. The golden age was the late '70s through the late '90s. With that said, you can get amazing equipment today for very little money. There is a place for all audiophiles at all price levels and we need to encourage that. Love what you want to love but realize your tastes are not others.
