I’m over 50 and just got approved my Study Permit, my wife also got Open Work Permit based on my study. I could not get in EE because of age and we desperately want to go to Canada. Study was the only way. My wife is now having doubts about getting job etc. Considering the odds have been stacked against us, I think we would be foolish not to? What do you think? After 2yrs study, 6 months work I would apply to Alberta Opportunity Stream, hoping for nomination. We want PR. Even so it would be a great experience.

Hi Rachel! I am planning to study in Canada hopefully as soon as possible 😅 I found your channel by searching for tips about student life in Canada. This is so helpful! Thank you for this! I just have questions regarding my program choice. I am a Advertising graduate from the Philippines and I am planning to take a 2-year course on either Visual Merchandising or Graphic Design. Do you think this is acceptable when I apply for a study permit? And is there a possibility where IELTS test results will be waived when I apply to colleges? Thank you!

Hi Rachel! Been watching your videos and you definitly explain things very well!👏👏🤗 I would like to ask for your honest opinion and advice on my situation.😁 I'm turning 36 this march of 2022, I'm currently an owner operator of an IT center here in the phillipines, operating for the past 9 half years. I'm planning to enroll at NBCC in thier 2 year program in Network Administration for winter 2023. Having the goal of being a Network Engineer someday.🙏 Do you think that I would qualify since my previous course back in 2007 was AB International Studies? My plan also is to travel alone & leave my family while I study & have my wife handle the business. & would it be possible for them to follow after 1 year of my program? Thank you very much!

Hi, Rachel. Great content. I stumbled across your channel while researching my options. Our old school system does not match Canada's e.g. to qualify for a Masters degree there, you have to have finished masters here in the Philippines.With that said, will it be a red flag if I go for another Masters degree there under a similar (not exactly the same) field? For context, I was like the "you" in the Visa Officer's eyes - "poor soul, she probably doesn't know where to go in life yet that's why she's jumping fields of study..." - I also jumped fields (BS Chemistry --> MS Development Communication + some law school units in between). Now, I plan to stick to the softer sciences so I'm considering communication or digital media or development studies or something interdisciplinary - just to align my study plan with my latest field and work experience (am a University teacher handling Communication subjects). However, I also consider going back to Chemistry (as it's more technical so job options are pretty decent - not yet sure if chemists are in demand there though) or Environmental Science (as it's the closest thing that bridges chemistry and devcom - technical people who know how to effectively communicate to the masse). Do you think it's better to pursue the "softer" fields? Or is it better to switch gears and revert to the more "technical" fields? I'm now personally okay with either routes. Just wanna know which route has a better chance in terms of study permit approval. :)

Thank you for all those information. I'd like to ask should I show the whole 5 year tution fee when I am applying for the study permit? I am pursuing a PhD degree, just finished my master's degree. I got awarded for some scholarship but it does not cover it fully. Thank you in advance.

There is a trick- you can go to a few universities -1. Where it will be logical from perspective of progress 2. Where you really want to study . You apply for study permit using 1 one , but when you are in Canada you are free to go where you want
@rrdancel
@rrdancel 2 жыл бұрын
Now, it’s one thing to study something you like. But other concerns that may arise is why you would need to take a program in Canada as opposed to learning it from your home country? Why are you switching fields now? And although there is no direct relationship fro your previous background, consider thinking of a logical connection of how taking that program will help you progress in your chosen career. Food for thought

My Visa Got approved with a short planning..... But i recommend you guys to plan 6 months a head rather than planning in a short time. Better Planning Better chance of you getting your Visa approved as IRCC would take times to process your Study Permit Application. Depending where you are, there are different processing time. For me i got my Answer just under 4 Weeks..

Hi Rachel! I've been watching all your videos and I'm planning to apply to schools very soon. I'm just concerned about the funds I need to show as proof. I currently have about $35,000 CAD from my savings which I will use for 2 year tuition fee, I'm still gonna pull together another $35,000 for the living expenses for 2 years so that's $70,000 CAD total. Could this be a red flag? All the money is just going to be in my time deposit here in the Philippines and I think you mentioned in another video don't just put all your money into one bank account (Am I misremembering you saying this? haha!) Also, if my parents like here in the Philippines could they write a letter that they will sponsor me? Just in case I need extra help? Or does the sponsor have to be in Canada? Thank you Rachel!!
@rrdancel
@rrdancel 2 жыл бұрын
Seems to me you got it covered. If you have funds on hand and readily available for your education AND living expenses for the duration of your studies in Canada - you’re in the safe zone in terms of finances. But, really it depends on the discretion of the visa officer reviewing your file. And yes, NO to bulk deposits because it looks sus to the officer how you conjured that much money in a short period of time. Especially if it’s just “for show” A letter of financial support from parents is also helpful as they have a compelling reason to support you in your endeavours (as you’re their child and they want what’s best for you) You got this love! Seems to me you’re on the right track. I actually just covered a video about an applicant getting their SP refused due to proof of funds here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/lamHrJmTsdXNY2Q.html Hope this helps! :)

Hey Rachel, I know this isn’t related to the video but your advice would be appreciated a lot. I gave my IELTS exam recently and got an overall band score of 7 (I messed up the reading section due to time management leaving just 5-10 minutes for the final section lol, hence, getting just a 6). Would that be a problem while applying for colleges? Or is an overall band score of 7 with 6 in reading and 7+ in the other sections good enough? Also I’ve been looking at a few colleges and even a few universities and I found Langara College, which is in Vancouver. Is the college well recognised and does it have good standards of education? I can’t find a lot of reviews about the college online and I’m worried that it might not be a great choice, even though the college does have the program that I’m looking for which is a Marketing Management post-degree diploma with a co-op term.

Hi OGN, thank you for sharing your experience. I know exactly what you felt because that happened to me too during my IELTS exam! If you scored 6.0 and above per category - your score meets the minimum score for program entry to most schools as well as SDS (if eligible). So you’re in the safe! As long as it’s still valid, you may use that to apply! Now it just depends on the competitiveness of your program and seat availability. Langara College is a popular school for international students and locals alike. I did not go there, so i cant personally describe what it’s like yo study there but I’ve been to the campus and liked the campus life it exudes. I actually filmed my most recent video there too (lol shameless plug) Overall, def a good school for it’s quality, affordability and accessibility! :D Hope that helps!

Thank you so much for the info.. i don't know whether it is typical to ask for your advice here but i am so desperate for a help. My profile: -A graduate in commerce - worked as customer service executive for a computer hardware company ( dealing with customers, handling their requests etc for 4 years) - worked as project administrator ( basically overseeing administrative tasks of architecture projects for 3 years) Applied for project management got Refusal. In dilemma whether to apply for Supply Chain Management ( i know it sounds a bit off track) or just hold on to the same course ( project management) What would be ideal for me? Thanks.

We are from Brazil, and the plan is to send him in the 3rd quarter of 2022, staying for 1 semmester. Could you please suggest us any immigration plan tô allow us to go to agencies? Any tips about HighSchool? Thanks, and again... Congratulations!! Regards, Luciana Betini

Hi Ms. Rachel! If I may ask, if the location offered from the school is "online" does it mean I can apply and study from my home country? Or I still must go to Canada? Please enlighten me. That, if you're not busy hehe
@rrdancel
@rrdancel 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, if the courses are offered online then you can work remotely. However, please note that time spent studying outside of Canada may impact your PGWP-length. From what I know, you may study remotely but be in Canada before Dec 31 for it to count towards your PGWP. More info about that can be read here, under “Distance Learning” www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/corporate/publications-manuals/operational-bulletins-manuals/service-delivery/coronavirus/temporary-residence/study-permit/pgwpp.html

If I have a bachelor's degree in mathematics and have almost 3 year work experience as a business analyst, will it seem like a red flag to pursue a diploma in computer IT? My reasoning would be that in order to get promoted higher in my business analyst career, I need more of a technical background. And that even in my current role as a business analyst, a more technical background would help.

@ Lola bee I have the same background as you I also work as a financial business analyst and I also want to pursue a diploma in IT in Canada.. I would also like to know this. @Rachel ..taking one year post graduate program and bring a spouse on a Spouse Open WP can avoid the risk that you had you previously mentioned in other videos?

HI Rachel, I have a doubt. I have a bachelor's degree and a course completion certification. When I apply for PR, do I need ECA for only my Bachelors or both? I need to improve CRS score so I would like to Select "two or more certificates...etc"
@rrdancel
@rrdancel 2 жыл бұрын
i saw this from IRCC’s twitter “You may claim CRS points for "Two or more certificates, diplomas, or degrees" if your ECA shows your education is equivalent to two Canadian certificates, diplomas or degrees, and one is for a program of three years or more.” Link here: twitter.com/CitImmCanada/status/1276237916990320640 Regardless, you’ll only qualify for FSW if you do not have Canadian Education or Skilled Work Experience in Canada. And right now, FSW is not looking like the way to go bc of COVID.

I actually have a couple videos on undergraduate programs on my channel but have yet to dive deeper into them. Just understanding my audience, most of them aim for at least a 2 year program due to affordability - but I’m always open to expanding their options 😁

What if the school I'm applying to exempts my country from taking the English language proficiency test? It's different on the visa side of things but I just don't want to spend money on IELTS and I heard they don’t really consider Duolingo.
@rrdancel
@rrdancel 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that’s the thing - there’s two sides of the same coin! On the school application, proof of English proficiency may or may not be required. The important aspect here id securing a Letter of Acceptance from a DLI. On the immigration side of things, if you plan on pursuing SDS- IELTS air required. However, if you plan on pursuing the regular stream, it’s not required but it will take a longer time to get a decision on your SP application.

Hi there, I just had this question in my mind that if we apply for 1.5 year or 3 semester course how much working permit do i get. Also in this case what would be the PR process and can we apply for 1 year program after completion of this course? Thanks in advance
@rrdancel
@rrdancel 2 жыл бұрын
It is in the discretion of the visa officer reviewing your application. While some may get a 3 year PGWP after studying a 1.5 year program, others get 1.5 for 1.5 years. So to be safe, consider taking a 2 year program for a longer PGWP. If you’re aiming for express entry, you still need to meet the eligibility for 1 of the 3 programs. And after that point, you have to be invited to apply for PR. Submitting an express entry profile is not a PR application. Most info about Express Entry can be found here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eNOHnKaV1rXGaJs.html
