That was the best graphical presentation of a side-cut I have ever seen. Great video.

Body position is the thing I've ebeen thinking about most recently. I tend to lean out to far sometimes .

Jo Kevin, I've been watching your videos since I started riding in 2016 or so, and want to send some love for all your help along the ride, thanks 🫶🏻 Now that I have a new, cambered board and some stiffer boots I can do some carves too 😍 not quite knapton lvl yet, but we'll get there 🌝

I adjusted my high backs from 0 to 4 and it made turning on my heel edge WAY harder. My board was way less responsive but it improved my toe edge turns considerably. Basically the opposite of what’s described here

A cambered board is pretty much a necessity. You can carve on a rocker but the faster you go the more sketchy it will get.

This storm in Tahoe is never gonna end......I don't know if that's good or bad because I am itching to try out powder bashes and carve some deep pow

heel side is way more easier than toe side for me for some reason. Also adjustng forward lean of the highback beyond F2 makes it way harder to step on.

Tip #2 is nice but I think toe carves are definitely harder. Especially for new snowboarders.

How come? I always felt more secure looking up the hill and making shure I won't cut somebody off. Als lang as the run is steep enough I had no fear of cathing the heel edge while on the toe edge.

I hated not looking down and seeing where I was going as a beginner. I wasn’t worried about those coming down behind me.

Imo physically they're easier, psychologically harder (cause the point in which you need to switch into a toe carve feels like you're gonna lean down the mountain lol)

As someone who literally started a month ago, toe carves were way harder to learn.

What is the best we to transition from beginner sliding turns to carving? I'm a new snowboarder and can link turns but hate the feeling of the board washing out. Any advice?

Practice Heel and toe edge J turns and focus on getting low and tilting that edge. Look at the line in the snow behind you. Once you can consistently do it for both edges, begin to link the turns. Some speed before making the turns will help your edge bite into the snow

My high backs range from 0-3, I currently have it one 2, should I move it on 3 or keep it on 2, I currently can stand straight up and the back of my boot is flat with the high back
@fudhater8592

If you have Step Ons you don't need to worry about forward lean as the boot is actually part of the binding when connected.

"Giving you more speed" - thanks.... I dont need more speed. While carving speed is anyway too high! High speed = less control, less clear movements and not pretty moves. And I hate speed.

It's a trading game between potential and kinetic energy. Everybody has their sweet spot, but you sure as hell need to get comfortable with speed if you want to cave any steeper hill.
@hiltithedrill
@hiltithedrill Жыл бұрын
just carve deeper until you really go accross or even up the slope at the end of the turn - keeps you speed in check and is more fun - all while keeping your board on a nice carve.

Depends on the conditions and your gear. I wouldn't feel comfortable ripping down hard pack ice on a bataleon like I would on a stiff deck with a dialed sidecut and a sharp edge.
