Sensible arsenal take from a rival fan 👏

Arsenal had the 5th best first first half to a season in English football's 135 year history. 50 points after 19 games. Centurions pace. They won 7 of the next 10 even with Nketiah in Jesus' place and dropped off massively when Saliba got injured and unfortunately his backup Tomiyasu got injured in the same game meaning Arsenal had to change the way they played to cover Holding's defensive deficiencies. Arsenal conceded 0.9 goals per game with Saliba and 1.9 without him. 5 of the 11 times Arsenal have dropped points have come in the last 7 games. None of Arsenal's top players are in danger of leaving. Youngsters like Saka, Saliba, Odegaard, Martinelli, Ramsdale will be one year older and one year closer to their prime. They will probably add Rice, Caicedo, 2 defenders and a winger. That is City level depth. Even if they get a few injuries, they will cope. Arsenal will make 95 points next season and reach the UCL semi at least, mark my words!

It really does get frustrating when people talk about how we will capitulate next season. This season you can say we bottled it for a numerous amount of reasons and it at some level justified the three player we bought in to elevate our team Jesus zinchenko and Saliba have all been missing for portions of the season. Although injuries isn’t the only factor plenty other reasons but yeah we bottled it with a young squad who will only get better and hungrier. With the right additions with Artetas first managerial job he’s learning on the go and will be able to drill the team better in the crunch time of the season

Completely agree as a Gooner! Our depth was the thing that lost it for us. But we learnt from last seasons mistakes and managed to get top 4, where we missed out last season. Hopefully next season we learn from this seasons mistakes and go out for the kill so it turns those 2-0 into 3/4/5-0 instead of finishing 2-2!! Love my club and onwards and upwards

Was sad to see today that Xhaka is apparently leaving, but it's also pretty exciting when you think of the profile we could get in that position. You can compare Xhaka to Tierney in how they are both very secure on the ball and are so dangerous in space but when you look at how Zinny has made a difference when he's come in because of his natural ability I can definitely see the same happening if we get someone that has similar qualities to a Gundogan. Xhaka leaving also gives more legitimacy to the rumours of us getting Rice AND Caicedo and that is so exciting!

It's just become the received wisdom about Arsenal for some reason. In part I suspect it's because what's happened reflects poorly on the other big teams who aren't City.

In terms of Arsenal's plan, the team this season was built to get top 4 not win the league, but they surprisingly found themselves in a title race. The squad had the depth for a top 4 race not for a title challenge and so Arteta did not rotate enough because he didn't trust the entire squad in a title run-in. By mid-April, lots of players had effectively run out of gas. Add to that the fact that they were the 2nd youngest team in the league and it was inexperience and lack of depth that cost them this season.

If we look at man united that making them lose points and fighting for top 4 with liverpool is because varane and martinez is injured. This Arsenal team is scary good. Except Man City, no EPL team could handle their attacking power and defensive organisation for most of the season. With further additions, they will definitely challenge next year. With City loosing Gundagan, Bernardo Silva it won’t be the same for them. Chelsea, Liverpool are rebuilding. Arteta has that fire within him. This year’s disappointment will fuel that further. Look at the way they won at Newcastle. That was one of the best away performance by any team in the EPL. Real Madrid, Barcelona are not buying any Arsenal players this summer. So there won’t be any weakening of the squad. So Arsenal with the right additions are the favourites next year.

I agree that the dropoff in quality between the 1st and 2nd choice is pretty catastrophic in many positions at Arsenal. I think Arteta had this very understandable approach towards squad depth that was along the lines of 'if we can have a top class versatile offensive player and top class versatile defensive player, we are somewhat cushioned against injuries without dishing out like we have oil money." In theory this works, but then our flex defensive player got injured at the same time as our first choice CB and he inexplicably benched our flex offensive player while he was in fantastic form. Let's see what the situation is after the summer. I heard someone say that city have the best and the second best team in the prem, and that isn't far from the truth. I'd be happy if arsenal got a couple more top quality bandaids as we go into a season of champions league football. The schedule of modern football just doesn't support the concept of a 'first 11' anymore.

Given that Brighton are considering 70m still for Caicedo, I don't think offering more money would solve that problem. Brighton seemed dead set on keeping him so they could get European qualifications this season. And Arsenal aren't going to spend Chelsea money. But we saw in pre-season that Arteta had a Plan B. We saw it at times during the Europa League where he'd have 2 forwards and they were playing a 2-2-6 system. It's the versatility of player that is lacking a little. Others, they just need the time to get synced with each other. Some of them just don't share the same brain yet. You can see it even with Odegaard, White, and Saka which Arteta tried to preserve all season. There are times where one is too creative for the other. But that little bit of chaos is what he wants. It's good. But when you are so comfortable with one another that you understand that chaos, that's his end goal. That takes time.

A very good video and I can’t argue with anything you said. I believe 5 top class players is a good transfer window. I think if Tierney stays fit and Saliba signs on again there is still need for a competent defender that could be trusted and be utilised across the defence when needed. Midfield Rice is the player needed and would be a statement signing. Caicedo yes, hoping he is the player we all think and not a one season wonder. A player is needed who can play either side…Acensio has been mentioned. Also needed is a world class bang em in for fun striker an out and out one. I would be happy if Balogan signed a new contract to see what he could do if there isn’t enough money for a top striker as that would another £80-100m needed to spend. Lastly, I don’t think we have enough quality cover for Ramsdale, not with champions league. £200m is what we hear will be the budget, not enough…£300m is more likely nearer the mark. I don’t think big players with big price tags will be leaving either. Arteta has to improve the positions needed for improvement. I don’t see the point in selling Tierney, Saliba unless for contract reasons and Smith-Rowe as Arteta would have to spend big to replace them. People thinking Rory is a gunner don't see the love he has for Chelsea, they seem to confuse the respect he has for the establishment that is Arsenal and his love for the game as a fan. I'm an Arsenal fan but im a football fan first, so when it comes to Chelsea (that i hate) I can't be anything other than blown away by those old Chelsea teams with Mouriniho. Nothing wrong with showing respect for footballing reasons. This Arsenal team were unbelievable for large parts of this season, played the best looking football...But they also choked at the end, both can be true. We need to strengthen with first teamers, CDM Rice/Caciedo, a 25+ PL striker and a Zinn/Tierney hybrid. A concern is how do they react to letting the title slip through their fingers. Imperative we get off to a good start to put it behind us.

Great analysis, and as an Arsenal fan I agree that the reason we lost the title is because we didn't have enough players who could come in and change the things when the things are not going our way. The only position where we have real quality is that left wing where we can either play Martinelli or Trossard, if one is not playing well or need resting you can count on the other to cover and don't feel the drop off in football we play. Saka literally had no player to cover for him, Nelson is not naturally a right winger, the only player we had on that position was young Marquinos, who had some good games in EL and is showing potential, but is not PL ready and is sent to Chempionship on loan. We either get the Pepe a second chance or we get someone to help Saka. Right back another position, Tomy got injured, so we had to convert White from CB to RB, although he had good season, he is not natural in that position and instead of using his as a backup for Saliba, we had to play Holding who almost had no playing time the entire season. Speaking of LB and Tierney, I absolutely see him as a part of this team because we offers something Zini doesn't. Tierney is not inverted wing back but his work rate, runs down the touchline offers extra options to our game plan, not to mention that he is better defensive player than Zini.

Most of the negative stuff I hear about Arsenal is just normal banter. If being serious, and Arsenal gets that proper 9 finisher, gets someone who can rotate Ødegaard and Saka so they can take a mental rest here and there, and a defender or 2, that isn't a massive drop in quality, I think we're going to see Arsenal back in the fight for Premier League Champions.

Chelsea won the league, then came 10th, then won the league, then came 5th. Liverpool got 92 points last season, they might not get top 4 this season. United came 2nd in 2021, then 6th in 2022. Not saying it's likely but Arsenal can definitely drop out the top 4 next season. If Newcastle get top 4 they'll be able to sign even better players than they have been already, Ten Hag will likely have United playing even better in his second seasons, Liverpool will surely be more consistent and even Chelsea shouldn't be as shambolic as we have been this season. If Kane stays and Son regains his best form Spurs might even sneak back in. Top 4 isn't a given for anyone next season aside from City.

Mate, look at us (LFC) at what we achieved (or nearly achieved) last year. We are now massive underdogs to make the top 4. To say this could happen to Arsenal isn't exactly stretching it when you consider that they are going to want have a good CL run as well. Not to mention the fairly young, inexperienced squad. I'm not saying it'll happen, but us, City, Newcastle and 1 of Utd/Chelsea/Spurs (lol) could finish above them. Coming close to a league title without winning it takes something out of you the following season... you go in feeling deflated.

It all depends on how much money we get to spend this summer really. If we are given 200-250mill + whatever from player sales then there isnt a reason why we cant sign Rice, caicedo and probs 2 other players. My main hope it whatever players we are aiming for we get very early in the transfer window and then clear out the players that arteta doesnt want/need. At least by doing this we can start the pre-season with the team we want for the season and the new additions can get gametime to get used to the new set up ready for a stronger push to win the title

In reality, 90% of these people saying arsenal won't get top 4 are just saying it for the sake of it, and don't actually believe what they're saying. Could you imagine this arsenal side, but adding a clinical striker, a couple midfielders like rice and caceido, and maybe a cancelo at RB. That's a side that 100% would not only get top 4, but almost certainly do even better than they did this season.
