Limping preflop has many advantages. Most games the players just want to see the flop so 3 betting won’t be an advantage. You will still most often go 4 ways to the flop and end up spending money just to lose anyways post flop. Limping allows you to conceal your hand strength, even more so post flop. Limping allows you to see more flops for cheaper Limping a lot increases the strength of your preflop 3bets

Well talking about losing bad stories... I lost to a royal flush when I haven't even played 2000 hands (guess) and for those who are interested in the odds of a royal flush... It's about 1 in 2.6 million hands

I’m assuming this is more talking about cash games, but regardless limping with a strong hand can be extremely advantageous. If someone limping shows weakness, you’ll likely put them on a bluff rather than trying to bleed you for value when nearing the river. A great example was me limping in with AK of clubs in a tournament today. Know this was the final table and this table was often raising pre flop to prevent limping. This hand that didn’t happen and there were three of us. I flop the nut straight and the three of us check to the river. An ace had came on the turn but no one bet it. No extra clubs came and on the flop I bet 10k which was a little more than double the pot for the blinds we called pre flop. One of the guys called probably with a weak ace not putting me on anything. Had I raised preflop I likely wouldn’t have gotten that extra value (and a flush ticket if that matters). Limping, like everything in poker, has a time, place, and correct position to do it. Also with a non made hand if you miss big, it is a lot easier to throw away money you limped with than the money you raised with and possibly even what you made a continuation bet with. However with made pocket pairs, you absolutely want to get most people out and make it heads up, or just steal the blinds if your PP is below 10s. FYI: I ended up chopping the prize pool for a 3 way tie for second and one ‘first’ place winner that got a little extra.

Love your advice, So many things to consider at the poker table, I like playing at different casinos , But this may put me at a temporary disadvantage… adjusting to the player types, Being an older player tho , And playing my image compensates for this I’m taking a little break from poker,And listening to your videos to help keep me in “poker shape “For when I return to the felt. Point #5: Hand Selection - Do you still only play these hands with 4 other players? 3? 2? Are you willing to be blinded out sitting at a table for 2+ hours never (or rarely) making any of the starting hands on your cheat sheet? Point #4: You have AA from UTG at a 9 handed table, and you strictly follow your own tight playing rules. How often do you raise and get 8 folds? Limping allows you to re-raise when late position players raise their weak Ax hands, their suited rag connectors etc.Also on this point, are you raising 22 from UTG 6 handed, and are you continuing on a flop containing 2 Broadway cards (with no 2)? Point #2: All in with top pair - so situation ally dependent. What are you doing when THEY shove on your careful 1/2 to 2/3 pot bet? Are you folding on dry boards? On wet boards when there is a very real possibility they only have a draw?

Thanks for the free lessons, man. Its been very helpful. There have been many things you talk about that I just never considered. I used to be that fish that would play any ace or face and would always pay to see a flop. Even with garbage cus you never know... lol. My problem now is the crew I regualrly play cash games with are fish themselves, and after a few drinks, they get a little maniacle... so nailing down their range or what they got by how they bet is difficult cus they play a pair of 6's the same as a full house. 😆

Agree with everything, but i want to note, that limping can be good aswell when done correctly, having a limping range both premium hands and worse. That is literally how Dnegs won pokergo 25k highroller tournament, by limping.

All good basic poker advice Nathan...I would like to add though on limping, the tendency is for other players to call a limper with a flat call because they are looking to get in cheap and hope no one raises so they can play J9 suited or some other marginal hand especially from an earlier position. Better players especially in tournaments when that happens will raise in the CO or BTN sometimes with nothing to get people to fold and get position on anyone who is left that calls the raise. It does take a lot of guts to raise an unopened pot with anything less than a premium hand in earlier/middle positions...but I remember studying a lot Dan Harrington books and he would say that you need to open with an even larger raise with a decent but non-premium hand to protect it...such as TT...than you would with a hand like AA, KK, or AK. Thoughts?

This seems like bad advice. The first bit says be predictable (youll never win big pots that way). Number two says blind bet regularly. Sure it might work sometimes but when someone gets the best hand you can get burned. You only need to lose once. I recommend just getting experience.
