best effective way to fight hot weather experience : add a fan, two or even 3 fans over your aquarium and you can make better by using a timer thermometer that can make your heater and cooler work till you reach the desired temperatures, also make sure to put the fans at an angle for example 45 degrees and not at 180 degrees relevant to your aquarium water surface as we find it most effective removing hot air and moving water together ... believe me when i say if its 45 celsius outside and we use fans and air conditioning in our rooms to keep our aquariums at acceptable 25 to 30 degrees all days its really crucial to do this lowering of temprature it in very slow intervals ... so the 5 degrees difference will take about 5 hours to change which is very fine with fish, plants and other invertables

All I can say is thank goodness I have cold spring water to house. The last two days was 35 C and my expensive pets need 25 C and 28 C to be happy. Water changes save the day. My wife wanted me to put the upstairs A/C. but it chills the tank too cold and waste energy on water heater.

Can you read my mind. I've been asked my people for this exact advice for like a week. My tanks have been at 90° and I've asked people just to get no response. So I took action and did water changes with colder water to get my tanks back down without shocking my fish. It's a win in my book.

In desert southwest here - have patio ponds, and the best way to keep them cool all summer is running a heavy duty Vornado shop fan. I can keep the temp 20 degrees Fahrenheit below air temp, or more. Of course, I don't have the ponds in the sun - they only get a bit of filtered morning sun for maybe an hour but that's it. I run the fan on high all day, then in the after sundown turn it down to medium, then later on at night turn it on low. It's amazing how well it works. And topping off the ponds (lots of water evap, of course), I leave water in buckets on the patio over night - it cools down during night (water here is 90+ degrees right out of the tap) and in the early morning I use the cool water to top off the ponds and then turn the Vornado fan back up to high.

Thank you, this is so helpful! I already made the mistake of setting up my 10-g tank in a window, and it has a little shoal of zebrafish in it, who I think prefer cooler temps even though they can tolerate warmer. I was definitely overthinking things like 'how much chlorine is in an ice cube?' and 'if i do a water change with cold water will that be good because it's cooler, or bad because it's a temperature swing??' I appreciate all the effort that goes into these videos.

So thankful for my cool well water. I have tropical fish but I live in a place where i gets up to about 115° in the summer which is obviously too hot for any living being to be in😂 so sometimes if it’s so hot that the a/c isn’t doing the best, my tanks start rising up to the mid 80s which is just scary. USB charger + 5 to 12v adapter cable + 120 or 140mm computer fan. Most computer fans will spin at 5v but at lower speeds, if that suffices you can just use an old charger cable.

I lower the water level in a fish tank and let the hang on the back filter returning water splash down more violently than normal. This increases the overall water movement in the tank which helps evaporation go faster when you open up a portion of the top.
@fturla___156
@fturla___156 3 жыл бұрын
@@silurtenr.3309 Replacing aquarium water with colder water in a water exchange will not lower the overall temperature over a longer period and it also creates more work for the hobbyist. Reducing lights and thermal contact with hotter mediums is a more convenient method. If you think your method is preferable, then go ahead and I hope everything works out.

Frozen water bottles didnt work for me either. They do melt too quickly and dont cool the tank enough. You have to track melt times and swap them out. Which i couldnt do when im at work. They make fans specifically for cooling aquariums. They clip on the top of the tank and have a rotating adjustment to them. This is what I used during the 100 plus degree days. I was losing a lot of water through evaporation but it kept my temps down.

I have axolotls and was gifted them by my bff who's a veterinarian technologist got a living. She helps breed them and sell at conventions with her family and such. I lpve your natural set up. Our 75 gallon tank had fancy goldfish and it's all natural like this set up! We have a 60 gallon for the 2 albino axolotls fed worms (red wigglers) nightly 🌙 but we have the chiller that is expensive to run at our apartment thanks to the air always on and all our gaming things. But I love this set up, thanks again for teaching! I'll put my axolotls in the basement someday with low lights just because they are top predators and love the dark, and enjoy seeing humans but we never use the lights unless we have to for lights. Qe also use a magnet float cleaner for the glass tanks. That way it's always easy to clean. Lovely cute fish, ours love the natural plants. Air stones naturally cool so the gas exchange is cool and helpful as heck! I almost bought one once on a website dedicated to aquatic hobbies. Thanks again for sharing. I might buy fans for my axolotls since 60-66 Farenheit is ideal for them but anything above 70 F isn't the healthiest but ours can handle it, I just blast the air to prevent that at all costs. We're also working in figuring out if we need to clean the arctica chiller 10/1hp

I tend to rule out the middleman and just not run heaters at all. Since the Philippines is a hot country and during summer, the heat is sometimes unbearable and a combo of that and a heater can cook the fish. When it gets cooler at night, the water tends to slowly adjust to the outside temperature anyways so I never use heaters for my tanks, even if they're tropical or cold water. I tend to bust out the wave makers and powerheads to make the water move and be more oxygenated and I lower the water level so that the bubbles from the falling water can aerate the water more.

pretty sure most people have some form of movement in the water water pumps...filters...co2...why not use them? the same principle used in a recuperator design can be applied in a fish tank using filter pumps.. just connect the filter tubing to a split connection and put the connection in the vertical...colder water will flow down..hotter will flow up... connect the bottom to your diffuser and the top to a tube leading all the way to the top of the tank put a regulator knob on the top tube so you can get some bubbles in your diffuser otherwise water will just flow in the easier direction without resistance (up) this is the simplest way you can lower a few degrees in your tank without an ac/chiller

FYI…. If you do the open top method, you should know your rooms temp will shoot up because of the humidity However, if you have a few tanks in the same room, 1 ac is around the price as an aquarium cooler, but it will cool all the tanks in the same room

I heard of someone who adapted an old water cooler bottom as a chiller.(the kind that has a 5 gallon jug of water inverted on top). Someone else I heard of retrofitted a little tiny dorm fridge by putting tubing through the door gasket and circulating water through the fridge. I'm not sure whether the water was from the aquarium, but I would think the best way to do that would to circulate an outside source of water in a closed loop, going into the fridge and back out and just submerge part of the tubing into the aquarium. Just some food for thought.

Hi, how did you start your aquarium garden? I want to add some plants to my 20 gallon for my three goldfish to reduce ammonia and nitrates in the water. I had some duckweed but somehow I managed to kill it. We don't have a heating lamp over our fish tank because we live in Florida and the water is already too warm (why I'm watching the vid rn. Any idea on plants that do okay in darker colder waters that can coexist with goldfish? If anybody has suggestions please tell me, I'm desperate 😅

I hang a bottle of frozen water over top so cool water drips into it. This also gives the animal a choice of what water temp they want to be in. Works excellent for my small pond in summer where it gets over a hundred degrees F.

Turning down my heater or adding cold water usually gets my tank temperature down?

I found out that messing with water heater's sweet spot usually backfires most times. I just unplug during heat wave until air temperatures drop to acceptable before repluging heater. This avoids the heater trying to heat up the cooling water and messing with the plan and even the heater (in some cases).

You shouldn’t. What type of goldfish is it, is it a common or fancy goldfish? If it’s a common I recommend 40+ gallons, if it’s a fancy, 20+ gallons.

The biggest rule: keep the temperature stable, not up and down a lot Open lid with air stones has worked for me, also less lights, in the UK, it's hot at the moment 30°c at 10am. My lights are on from 6pm-10pm at the moment, not lost any fish from 5 tanks
