This comment is for people who aren't fluent in Spanish yet. I have been learning almost 6 years with fluency coming after 4 years. That being said if I had these to help me it wouldn't have taken near a long. All of the information she gives you is of the absolute most importance because it is so useful. This is one of the best sources I've found on KZfaq. I've lived in Mexico and she still taught me things I thought I knew. Please use this to help you no matter if you are a complete novice or an advanced speaker. Estoy Bien agradecido que ella esta usando un poco de su tiempo con la intencion de ayudarnos aprender la lingua que interasamos. Gracias con puro corazon!

Mi español ha mejorado mucho desde que comencé a pensar en cómo aprendí mi idioma nativo. La razón por la que puedo hablar inglés sin pensar es porque he dicho las mismas palabras y frases una y otra vez durante años (o décadas), y mi cerebro puede acceder a estas palabras y frases rápidamente para formar oraciones completas y mantener una conversación. Con esta idea, me aseguro de pensar completamente en español durante al menos una hora al día (más si puedo), además de tener entrevistas conmigo mismo en español, leer en voz alta y escribir un diario, para entrenar mi cerebro para acceder a palabras y frases en español rápidamente.

A ese método que estás usando se le llama “input comprensible”. Aprender como cuando fuimos de niños, adquirimos el idioma, no lo aprendemos.

Me gusta ver las noticias en español. Repiten muchas frases en su formato. Muy buenas frases para practicar. Como el pronóstico del tiempo, los deportes y las introducciones. Puedes verlo al día siguiente y escuchar las mismas frases. Gran consejo Brenda, tendré que probarlo.

Let me add my 3 cents (sorry, in English because I am a true beginner, started learning Spanish systematically, 2--3 hours every day only 8 or 10 days ago) to Brenda's so helpful and wonderful advice. I want to share with you my experience. I am Polish. By the age of 25 (that was long before computers) I had learned and reached fluency and intermediate level in 5 foreign languages: English, French, German, Russian and Danish . Hardly ever used for years, some of them got rusty or disfunctional (Danish) by now. Songs (and poems) , so many of you mention here, helped me i in quite fast acquisiontion of all my foreign languages. But MORE: They continue to help me each time I have to communicate with people in any of my partially lost foreign languages. WHY? Because not only I listened to dozens of English, French, German and Rusian songs (none in Danish !) but I memorized many of them so well that I still remember them now, dozens of years later. They are my favorite dictionaries ! I continue to pull out of them words I need. On and off I did a little extra. I replaced words of my favorite songs with my own, on topics and with words and phrases I wanted to remember for life. I have already started doing this in Spanish which I MUST acquire very fast. Here is my first :production: Soy un viajero de corazon, Edmundo. Yo viajo por nuestro fascinante mundo. Viajo todo el ano: otono, primavera, O, si, si, naturalmente, invierno y verano". To those of you who have not done it yet: LEARN appropriate (also with your own words) songs by heart. Yes, if they rhyme, there is no way to ever forget them.
