I love the look of Converse kicks. And honestly, I think that there is no better shoe style to go along with a good pair of selvedge denim jeans. They also go great with a chino. Fatigues. They go great with lots of looks.
But Converse, you have let me down just too many times now. So here are 5 alternatives to Converse trainers that will go the distance.

As I live in East Asia, I'm kinda being close to Japanese shoes. I have 2 pairs of made-in-japan converse, they're both great sneaker, especially, its look is still timeless and classic. The duration is not bad, they started to tear apart after 2-3 years of heavy usage, which is acceptable. But after I tried Japanese vulcanized shoes, Moonstar shoes, I realized another level of duration, it has been almost five years of wearing Moonstar shoes and it's still intact, except the colour is faded, but the shoes itself have none of a single scratch, its structure is tough as hell. I bought the second pair without hesitation. It's my best ever sneaker.

Moonstar is actually the parent company behind Shoes Like Pottery. Shoes Like Pottery was formed after Moonstar introduced the ka-ryu process (kiln firing the soles) into their manufacturing. The models that Moonstar used the ka-ryu method on are what became Shoes Like Pottery.

Good video, chucks are still the best for me, having worn chucks for yrs, I realized, they have about 4 factories, based in India, china, Vietnam and Indonesia. I have tried all and I'll say Vietnam chucks have the best quality and durability they've lasted me years. My china chucks fell apart in 3months, like completely worn out, India chucks lasted a while longer, followed by Indonesia chucks. I hope this will help.

Yo! Love your channel!! I think the secret to Converse these days is to get the CONS Chuck Taylors that they specifically make for skateboarding (Chuck Taylor All Star Pro High Skate Shoes). The main difference is that it's a suede upper (for durability) as opposed to canvas, but they're built to withstand the abuse of skateboarding, and hence last forever (and still look great!!). They're little tanks :)

I’ll add the Crocs Lace Up Hovers to list. Yep. They’re better than Converse in every way for me; they don’t stink, they fit wider up front, there is NO glue used in their construction (upper is sewn to sole!) and they’re super light. Only downside is they stopped making them in 2015.

Nice! For made EU try Barleycorn. Problem with vulcanised rubber soles is that it gives you smelly feet and no arch support. Very bad for your feet, knees and back. Nike blazers achieve that retro look and were often worn by skaters in the early 80's. Good quality sneakers: New Balance made un UK and USA and National Standard. To hell with summer, I just wear Birkenstock or bare feet....
@CeeAreDee
@CeeAreDee 3 жыл бұрын
That’s funny. I’ve actually had the exact opposite experience. With the canvas sneakers my feet are fresh and any kind of trainers it’s horrible. Just imagined that the canvas breathes better. You might be right about the arch support tho. I’ve always used custom sports insoles cause my knees are messed up. That helps a lot.

Ok, so I like the look of most of these. A break down of price would have been interesting to review too. For me, Converse 70s are my go to, lows and highs, leather / suede and canvas. The all weather Boseys are also swish. I do get what you mean about standard CTAS, they are paper thin and the soles don't last., cheap and cheerful. But, all my 70s including leather and suede have been through the machine at 30 (use a washing liquid rather than powder as theres an enzyme in the powder that breaks the glue down, I believe) and my 20+ pairs are still going strong. some have even been overdyed. Personally, the sillhouette of the 70s cant be beat, thats my 5 bob, but then I like square sausage and maramalade together, So what do I know.....

Would also recommend: Converse All Star J (Made in Japan version, better quality and shape than all stars along with a slightly thicker sole) regular chuck 70s since all star J isnt very accessible Onitsuka Tiger OK Basketball MT, very historical and heritage heavy shoe, they have a few different versions of it Excelsior sneakers Kolca 1986 high top Domba sneakers, unfortunately their converse alternative is only a low top version Moonstar sneakers, Shoes Like Pottery parent Warrior sneakers you can buy on commonnarratives Stare (Stear) sneakers AGE Sneakers there's obviously stuff like R13 and Visvim but those are expensive for most people xvessel, mihara yasuhiro, and humant official if u want something a bit different

How's the comfort on these trainers? Specifically the US Rubber co's since the regular Converse chucks don't offer much of anything when it pertains to an insole, unless you go and buy the "premium" Chuck 70

I bought Novesta sneakers for myself, and US Rubber co sneakers for my wife. I think these were made in the same factory in Slovakia. Construction looks the same, boxes are the same, removable insoles are the same. Even the toe split looks the same. Only the sizing, -and sole design looks different.

Can you speak to the sizing of US Rubber co? I recently bought a pair of Novesta low tops and I'm in love.... but I'm smack in between sizes and tried both on to find one of them too tight, and the other way too big. Bummer.

I love the look of Chucks but the quality has gone downhill steadily. The Chuck 70's is by far the most narrow shoe I've ever worn, on par with Nike Blazer. Regular Chucks are not wide by any means either but the lack of cushioning made them a little bit more bearable at least. Even the "wide fit" Chucks are too narrow for my taste. Once I tried Novesta, Converse feel like a pair of toy shoes. Novesta are great for a wider foot and they feel so much more sturdy. Their soles are really good with great arch support and the metal tips on the laces are a nice touch of elevated quality. Let's hope they keep their factory in EU and keep producing decent shoes for the same price.

Regular converse today are low quality. The 70s Cons are well constructed, worth the extra money. PF Flyers are basically Cons on steroids and with arch support, finding your color and size can be an issue. I’m wearing a pair of Red Ball Jets right now, you should check them out.
