I'm pretty sure that traditionally (at least in the UK) the expression Shutter Drag has meant that you use a longer exposure to capture motion in the background and then use flash to capture the subject sharp (front or rear curtain release), as opposed to just long-exposure.

You can use the timed release shutter as well if you don't have a remote. There's one thing they forgot to add is that you will most probably need an ND filter to get the lower shutter speeds.

Spot on a Nd filter will extend your shutter speed.

Great tip about the motion moving across the frame instead of toward the frame.

Ok, I'm a little confused. I thought shutter "drag" was more of something you did with flash/strobe, where you have some motion that is flowing, but the flash freezes part of your subject so that it is clear while the rest is a blur of motion? This looks more like long exposure photography, just not super long using a ND filter.....? What am I getting wrong here....? It is Friday and been a long week, but this hit me as I was watching this.

Love using Sony update Image Edge software for shutter release and focus points. It actually works much better than when it first came out.

I'd like to learn how someone teaching photography can confuse two such basic terms as Shutter Drag (which this isn't) and Long Exposure photography.

How does use of high frame rate work if you want your shutter speed to be say 2 secs ? Does that mean it will take a series of 2 sec exposures for you without having to keep pressing the shutter ?

@@ShogunPuca Yes. You don't always need a ND filter to drag your shutter.

Right. Get an ND filter, set ISO low try, F8 or up, and don't shake the camera. It's a lot of fun to experiment at the beach, river, waterfall or fountain, and even light trails at night.

At first glance "Shutter Drag" sounds like some strange intricate new technique. We always called it "Using a slow shutter speed to capture motion".

I'd never heard the term 'shutter drag' before seeing this video, but I agree the shorter drags make more interesting movement. Chiffon soft is boring.

Sorry dude...... not taking a shot at your photographic skills, but perfectly dragging your shutter...? Pfffft, c'mon man...... long exposure is what it is. Also, you need to inform the viewers of what an ND filter will do if shooting during the day,

In daylight, like he shows, you will absolutely need an ND filter or you will over expose all your images, and shutter drag is the wrong term, its just long exposure photography which has been around forever. His spindly tripod is a joke, it won't be long before his camera is underwater.

Liked the video Pye but this is old hand stuff. and for the life of me what person decided to call this old trick by a stupid name, this was always called a long exposure. Or are we all going to call salt know its Sodium chloride ?????? really
