Hello. I worked with stromer alot and here some of my thoughts: 1. Put some tape underneath the controller panel. I had some cases when controller broke down due to water. 2. Derailleur is really hard. It has 2 modes by switching the lever. If it would loose tension then cain would bang against the frame. 3. It has a crappy wire connections versus st2 model. If you aren't very careful with mounting wires, they can be shortened by rotor. 4. rigid fork sucks. It's simply unsafe on bumpy road. You loose traction. 5. Omni C sucks. 100%agree. Loading like an old windows. They used the same processor and simply overload it. Previous version works much better. Bit they discontinue 2g network, which makes me to buy a new omni. Regards, Dennis.

I love this review! Often, these videos are simply commercials for the manufacturers. Your review is real and honest. Thanks!

As a Stromer owner, i second most of these issues. Thankfully they redesigned the entire stem and fork. Now it doesent creek anymore. The Omni did work for me all of the time, but recently ive had a few issues too. They even had to redesign the suspension fork for their new stem system. I got everything replaced on warranty, and it drives like a charm. I love this bike.

Thanks for the real comments. I am researching and about to test ride the ST3 Pinion w suspension fork. Do you still have this bike? Your being a Bay Area guy… can you give me some feedback on hills and the rear hub? The common wisdom is that rear hubs are not ideal for steep grades. I live in Oakland, CA. Most of the videos and reviews I have been able to find are by folks in the mostly flat parts of Europe. So I have yet to see anyone talk extensively about riding Stromer in the 7-15% grade range. I guess my interest is if there are any serious shutdowns or if it just doesn’t feel right.… but also, even if it’s fine on steep hills, does it impact range in a way that is different than how it impacts range on a mid motor Bosch (I currently ride a Gazelle C380+ with a carbon belt and Enviolo hub). I am older… but reasonably fit. I am not looking for an effortless ride on hills… I just want to know if using a Stromer in the hills will be “all wrong”. Thanks. Maybe, if you still have this bike, this might be a future video suggestion.

Hello Dutchbiker. I assume you’re Dutch. Today I had a test ride on both Stromer ST3 and a Klever X Speed Pinion back to back on the same route. I was impressed by both. I like the ergonomics of the ST3. However I reached a higher top speed on the Klever. It was a great experience. Ergonomics: Stromer. Battery: Stromer Speed: Klever Maintenance: Klever

Thanks for this man, I am shopping the St1x now, and was looking up to the st3, but....
@nvanpraag4 жыл бұрын
The ST3 is really a well-made effective machine overall. And so is the ST1x from my experience. The ST3 is a bit more performance oriented. That manifests itself in mostly ergonomics and components. You can’t go wrong either way!

Creaking in the handlebars: See if you can tighten up the screws inside. The problem should go away for a day or so. If it returns: I got the tip that loctite 243 might help permanently. Still need to give it a try myself.
@Ropetable4 жыл бұрын
Tighten can help, but the creaking continues. Stromer redesigned their stem system, now it no longer creaks. and they replaced mine without me asking on warranty.

I have an ST3 also and it has been disappointing at best. It has all the issues reported here except for seamless, which has been working fine with my android phone. But it also has one additional problem, the headset seems to be impossible to adjust right; either too much play or it slightly binds.

Hi Dutch Biker! Would you now still choose the ST3 over the ST5? Thanks for all your informative videos!!!
@nvanpraag3 жыл бұрын
Hey Gustavo! Yes, I would still get the ST3. The ST5 is just too expensive (out of principle) for a super commuter e-bike in my mind. The newest ST5 variant that includes ABS brakes is interesting but is even more expensive. I will wait until that technology "trickles down" to the ST3 and other models.
@Kill4MD4 жыл бұрын
Regarding the Pirelli tires, Stromer offers also winter tires for the st3 and st5 for around 60-70 euros. Also relatively new for Stromer, the have a suspension for option, it is an air fork with 30mm travel that comes with a hefty price tag of over 1000 euro!
@nvanpraag4 жыл бұрын
Yes! I'd love the suspension fork although the last time I checked it was not yet available in the U.S.. I'll check out the rain tires as well. I rode in to the city this morning in the wet and it was fine so long as I was very smooth and careful while corning and braking.

I never understood why they didn't go with a Pinion front gear hub and using Gates belt drive?

About that Bluetooth: try to use it without switching off your bike. So unlock it and see if you have a bluetooth connection. If yes: just go away or set your mobile into flight mode. For me Seamless Ride works 100% of the time once I've actually paired up my phone with the bike (OnePlus 5t). Which can be quite a hassle initially. I got the creaking stem, too. Maybe will try to use some fat next time. The lightest gear is a bit noisy, true. But I hardly ever use that anyways. About the tires: I very much prefer them over my last tires (Schwalbe Moto X). Also Stromer offers some winter tires. Maybe those will work better for you... Thanks for sharing! ;-)
@nvanpraag4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for sharing your experience! I really appreciate it. I did get a software update and that has seemed to help the bluetooth issue to the point it works about 50% of the time now. I'll try your approach as well. Thank you again!
@joerivankallo4 жыл бұрын
Yes, bluetooth is switched off when you shutdown the bike. It's like connecting to your phones bluetooth when it is powered off instead of just the screen turned off.

I come back to comment your video, I want to know if the ST3 with low pressure wheel is more confortable ? And if the suspension under the sit is really efficience ?
@nvanpraag5 жыл бұрын
Yes, I'd recommend you try different tire pressures to see what works best for you. In terms of the Kinext post this is something I would recommend to any Stromer owner as it vastly increases comfort and rideability. It should be standard equipment.
@siriosstar47893 жыл бұрын
for that kind of money you could buy any number of high end e bikes outfitted with top of the line motor , batteries , components tires , wheel sets , suspension, etc, and still have some money left over for some nice riding gear.
@yonexbat5 жыл бұрын
I have ridden 7000km (4350 miles) on ST3 now. Drive train works well for the 3 smallest sprokets, the others are noisy. Reason is that I use the smallest sprokets 98% of driving time. Seamless lock mode works 80% for me, I have a galaxy S9. Hope it improves, I love this feature. Biggest trouble I had was with the alex-rim of back wheel: It made a noise each round. They replaced the whole wheel inc. motor for free. Now it is ok. Conclusion: If you buy an electric bike, make sure the seller or your bike shop can fix it, whatever it is!
@scubalibre22 күн бұрын
Do you think the new Angel ST tires on the ST7 have the same wet issues as the ones you have?
@nvanpraag22 күн бұрын
@scucalibre I would think they would be ok based on the tread pattern appearing very similar to the ST5 tires I am riding now. It's also a matter of compound and the higher end variants are softer and better traction overall (including in the wet). 👍
@joerivankallo4 жыл бұрын
I totally agree with the 5 things you mention. Very poor quality for such an expensive bike (7500 Euros). I have an annoying ticking sound on my rear brake disc. First it was the front one, brought it in for a check-up, now it's the rear having the same issues.
@nvanpraag4 жыл бұрын
Yes, I agree. While there is a lot right about this bike I feel certain things should be far more refined. I admit, I am spoiled. I ride a mountain bike with full XTR and a cross bike with SRAM Force. But as has been stated, the Stromer ST3 is expensive, even for an e-bike. and this represents their 2nd to the top of the line. It should be dialed. Regarding your brakes, have you checked to make sure the rotors are not bent/warped?
@Ropetable4 жыл бұрын
I had that ticking sound too. Annoying as hell, my disk would scratch the calipers, and centering does not help. Only good bike shops can fix that. Mine is now fixed after replacing the frame on warranty.

My Stromer ST1 is over 100,000 kms. I use it for food delivery. I bought it 2016
@nvanpraag4 жыл бұрын
Nice! That's super impressive. Have you replaced the battery?
@claytonmalanowich59703 жыл бұрын
So I test drove the new ST2 with suspension forks and the carbon fibre belt drive system. I was so impressed I eventually bought it. However, I took one more really quick trip with my new Stromer and I hit a bump and it powered off. The thing is this had happened to me on another previous test ride on a different but similarly equipped ST2 - the shop told me they couldn’t replicate this powering down problem and I had kinda forgotten about it. What it sounded like when I hit the bump was basically a loud “click”, then it powered off - my guess is the battery is separating from the magnetic contact points for a split second, both causing the loud click noise and the system shut off. So long story short I returned my new ST2 the next day. Basically the bumps I hit on my five short test rides were, in my opinion, pretty minor/small, and having the unit shut down twice on five short rides was to me a safety hazard. I was just wondering if anyone else has this issue?
@nastythomashobbs4 жыл бұрын
I have the St2 and the carbon fork is still very harsh. I am thinking of getting a suspension fork.
@nvanpraag4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, this bike should have some type of suspension. I'm getting used to the harshness but it's still a limitation of this model.
@nvanpraag4 жыл бұрын
I think I need that new suspension fork!
@nastythomashobbs4 жыл бұрын
@@nvanpraag I bought the Redshift Shockstop handlebar suspension . It has made a big difference. Not the same as a front shock but made a huge difference. Only 150 bucks and keeps the bike looking sexy. Perfect street riding compromise IMHO.

nastythomashobbs excellent insight! Thank you. I’ll definitely check it out!
@ivojanssens2212 жыл бұрын
2 of your 5 points have 1 and the same cause, missing (front) suspension. The adjustable suspension damping significantly improves grip performance, it's not just the tire, it's the combination. You don't have a super light racing bike, but a heavy and speed-hungry ebike. Front suspension is a must-have and not a nice-to-have item, especially on less good roads. Take your mountain bike and put on the best wide road tires ever, increase the preload, adjust the damping until you're happy on the paved road. Then lock your suspension and tell me about your crappy tires...
@nvanpraag2 жыл бұрын
Ivo, thank you for your thoughts. Much appreciated! I do agree the Stromer should have a front suspension. It is to date the stiffest, roughest bike I have owned. But... the switch to ST5 tires transformed the bike from nearly intolerable to fully livable. And the grip levels are also massively improved. I would recommend it first thing for ST3 owners. Please see my video dedicated to this switch.
@hugo50745 жыл бұрын
I have a things to you say, for the point 3, when Stromer say : "Locked", he ask you to just enter password to use then, just that ;)
@nvanpraag5 жыл бұрын
Yes, worst case is I have to input the password. Again, it's a minor gripe that the bluetooth doesn't work well but it seems it should work better given the price point.
@Kill4MD4 жыл бұрын
Did you try to take the bike to a shop and see if the derailleur hanger is ok. The stem problem is kind of a know one, it gets loose with time for some reason... I think they have a guide how to stop it
@nvanpraag4 жыл бұрын
Yes, it seems better now but still not as smooth as I would expect for an expensive bike. They were able to adjust the headset and eliminate the creaking issue. Thank god! That was super annoying.
@Kill4MD4 жыл бұрын
Good to hear about the stem, but the drivetrain issue is disappointing... would you recommend the bike for committing? I am looking to buy a high quality ebike ( have a convention kit by bikee best on a full suspension bike for commuting which has no torque sensor and no provisions for rack or fenders....) One other question related to the bike, can you close the battery compartment without the battery installed ( for charging of the bike at night or to keep the battery health)? And if so, does the lock function still works?
@antoniotorrini52754 жыл бұрын
@@Kill4MD I would not recommend it, especially if you intend to use it daily. The ride is far too stiff and punishing for that. I went back to riding a conventional steel commuter bicycle.
@Kill4MD4 жыл бұрын
Antonio Torrini the problem is that there are no 45kmh steel electric bikes that I know of.. do you have any suggestions?
@antoniotorrini52754 жыл бұрын
@@Kill4MD I have no great answers for you. It is conceivable that a Stromer with suspension fork and seatpost would ride better. I haven't tried that combo myself. I have been disappointed enough as it is and I'm not about to spend more money on it. My son has a Specialized Vado and while it's still aluminum, the ride is more compliant. However the bike is still relatively stiff and has some other limitations that you may not like; first and foremost it's way slower compared to the ST3. My commute is only 6 miles each way and my legs can cope with that, so I decided that 28mph wasn't as important as riding a bike I enjoy. To put in perspective, the Stromer is so stiff that I was starting to experience persistent lower back pain. But then again, this may not be a problem for you. Ride a few and see if you like them.
@wishtari4 жыл бұрын
Isn't it locked because you selected that option? You can change it in the menu. It wil either switch on unlocked or locked... Your choice!
@nvanpraag4 жыл бұрын
Well, not exactly but good thought. I have noticed that if I'm more patient (e.g. wait for a good 10 seconds after touching the lock screen) the bike will unlock itself about half the time. But it's still not a perfect system.
@flipmathys67083 жыл бұрын
I have some points to add: 1. Crank needs reguarly tightening 2. Bottom plate deforms, 2nd in warranty 3. The freehub is crap, makes a horrible sound.
@nvanpraag3 жыл бұрын
Hey Flip! Yeah, I have to say to have had my crank loosen twice. Using a torque wrench, I tightened the living daylights out of it and it seems to be good now. I've yet to have issues with the freehub and bottom plate. Thank you for your addition thoughts.

And Pirelli wheels is really dangerous with lot rain ? (not good news for me, I have 60% time rain in my country)
@nvanpraag5 жыл бұрын
Hey Hugo, yes... the Pirelli tires have poor grip in the wet.
@SarathePit4 жыл бұрын
@@nvanpraag I watched your review about these Pirellis and took note. However, my new Conti Top Contact Plus's have a very similar issue...I did the two wheel slidey thing in wet this week with those. I do think if I reduce pressure a bit it would help.
@nvanpraag4 жыл бұрын
@@SarathePit Hey there, thanks for the thoughts. Interesting that you experienced the same thing with the Conti's. It may have something to do with "high efficiency" tire design as my wife's plug-in hybrid Audi had horrible wet weather performance with its OEM tires. @nvanpraag2 жыл бұрын
Hey Green! Yeah, I was really disappointed by the way Stromer handled that cancelation of 3G. Even for the 2018 ST3 is costs like 500 dollars to "upgrade" in order for the connectivity to work. It's unacceptable.

Lower your tyre pressure i guess... It's not a race bike
@antoniotorrini52754 жыл бұрын
I'm possibly sounding contrarian, but do you actually own one? The bike is so stiff that you can lower the tire pressure to the point that they feel squirmy and the ride is still harsh. Second if it's not a race bike, why on earth did stromer make it so darn stiff?
@rodbtelenetbe4 жыл бұрын
@@antoniotorrini5275 because Of The speed you can reach I guess.... They have a great marketing team.....
@nvanpraag4 жыл бұрын
The tire pressure was very low, about 25-30psi. Recommended is between 50-60psi. I agree it isn't a race bike but it is a vehicle that is meant to travel at high speeds and that results in arriving in corners a bit "hot" inadvertently every once in a while. The tires aren't horrible but the tread pattern clearly does not work in mixed weather as intended. I think I'll try the ST5 tire next - less tread but softer rubber that extends further around the side wall.
@DenisBikeMechanic4 жыл бұрын
Loosing tire pressure causes to rubbing between inner side if the tire and tube and eventually will cause to a flat tire. Don't lose it too much.
