5 things I DON'T LIKE about my TOYOTA HYBRID (and would I buy another one?)

I've clocked up 50,000 miles (80,000km) in my Toyota Auris HYBRID in the 3 years that I've owned it, meaning that it now has a total of 108,000 miles on the clock. There are things that I like about the car, and things I don't. Let me tell you some of those things!

I have the facelifted version and do not recognize the lights issue. Leg room is a problem indeed, and the horn is a bit underwhelming to say the least. But what I find most annoying overall is the complete lack of horsepower. This particular electric motor would be more at home in a kitchen blender than in a car. Lastly, the springs are too soft. I'm using a small trailer to carry my camping gear if I go camping, because if I use a roof box and the trunk all that gear will make the rear sag way down despite being under the car's rated weight limit. Other than that, after 220000km the biggest repair bill I've seen was €60 for reinstalling a fog light (that is not counting regular maintenance, oil, tires, ...). That is actually the key reason for me to own this car.

Agree with everything you say. Was driving my Auris at dusk yesterday and had to check the headlights were on and not just the parking lights. Time for an upgrade maybe. I’m quite soft-spoken so the weedy horn suits my personality. The legroom isn’t a huge problem for us as we rarely have backseat passengers. The Honda Jazz we had previously was like a limo in the back, by comparison. Over all, I think this video and your review of the Auris are very fair and a good summary of owning one.

Thanks! Yeah, Honda Jazz's are incredibly big inside. And about the horn, you've probably noticed, I'm not soft spoken!

Great video agree with the stuff your saying new e10 fuel I’m getting 52mpg but that’s driving country roads at 40 miles per day. 142,000miles on the clock and my sway bar snapped and drop links( definetly the roads I’m driving on and I came of the road on ice and mounted a curb) but all I’ve had is changing breaks and hand break. One thing Advise for anyone getting one. Check the service I’ve been had from the dealer to many times no oil change health checks with ambers next time they’re in the green don’t understand how brakes can get thicker over time

Auris 2013 here, I'm glad I have the bi-xenon lights ! I never noticed about the horn (I never use it), I had to go and check. And yeah, it sounds ridiculous 😅 I thought about changing car few months ago, since mine is 200,000 km but no, I actually realized I LOVE it and I want to keep her. I bought it second hand 4 years ago, with 100,000 km and I never had any issue, and I'm lucky she has every possible equipment, from panoramic roof to xenon lights, rain and light sensors, heated seats, leather, rear camera, JBL audio system... she even parks herself better than I do 😅 I can't really find one with the same equipment anymore 🤔 So I'll keep it few more years, I'm glad I don't have to deal with a clutch, a belt or expensive shite like that ! And I agree with your 6th point... I went on holiday in Austria, in the mountain the sound was ridiculous 😅

I never knew the Auris came with self parking. Sounds like you've really got all the trimmings! The standard stereo sound quality is actually very good, so I'd say the JBL system would be really nice!

My 2013 doesn't have all of that. When the car starts the headlights move sideways and then focus also when the steering wheel moves the lights turn as well. By any chance whats the name of this light if u know

Great video. I’ve been running a 06 Prius for 4 years, it’s a fantastic car. Having no rev counter was odd at first but now I don’t miss it. Closing in on 300,000km and the hybrid battery has given up the ghost. Just need to decide whether to fix it or scrap it now.
@Endfloat
@Endfloat 2 жыл бұрын
I'd be interested to know how much you can fix it for. If you can get a serviceable second hand battery for the right price, I'd do it. Otherwise I think at 300,000kms the car has done enough anyway. I don't mind the lack of rev counter. I'm used to not having one!

Got a battery out of a car that had done 90,000 miles. €400. I swapped it myself. Car is running great now. Will change to gearbox oil as well now and attend to some rust bubbling before the NCT. Chrisfix and some old Car Mechanics mags guided me through the change

I had Mini's in the 1960's. The problem was solved by Air horns.(not like Truck). You just answered your own problem, get a PRIUS, loads of room, GET A PRIUS!! Both have Cruise control! The new Corolla is smaller than your Auris.

I have the optiwhite bulbs in my auris and honestly they are perfectly fine. Also with mixed driving each day I’m only getting 51mpg, I don’t even floor it so I don’t know what’s going wrong there but the best I’ve gotten in a trip is about 56 while driving like miss daisy

I must try the replacement bulbs so! I'll call my local dealership. Now with the evenings closing in, it's nice to have good light. With the MPG, I found that accelerating hard to reach your cruising speed gives better economy than accelerating gently over a distance.
@Steven-qi4gm
@Steven-qi4gm 2 жыл бұрын
@@Endfloat I’ll give it a go with the acceleration. They will fit the bulbs for free but they cost around £60 for the pair and will last around 400 hours. Not cheap or long lasting but for safety it’s worth it imo.

Can I add No. 7? Why, when we had the technology to put a man on the moon 52 years ago, did Toyota fit that stupid clock which you have to alter for daylight savings twice a year. Surely a couple more lines of code in the centre screen could have put a clock there but I agree - great car.
