With the tear down of my house I am. Thinking of relocating from Vancouver bc to nanimo it been a dream of mine to move to the island .

Overpasses were asked for when building the new highway, but the money wasn't available. The cost will now be 10 times the cost. Note, my info on overpasses came from an engineer who worked on the highway.

the new highway sucks when you compare it to actual functional transportation system, but if you compare it to the old Island Highway that it was to replace it is a gleaming bastion of efficiency. seriously the old highway was beyond terrible. I used to think seeing as no one really lives on the island it was a waste of money to put in that highway that 99% of the citizens will never drive on, but then they built the sea to sky to whistler. a highway that goes pretty much no where. so again comparatively Island Highway wins

We almost moved to Maple Bay, it was actually our first choice! Duncan hasn’t changed very much from what I hear.

Not many. Decent place to live if you remote-work from Vancouver, though, and only go over periodically. Immigration; it's Canada. Housing is super expensive, but much less than Vancouver.

Downtown's a mess with all the drug addicts. Some parts of the city (suburbia in the North) are clear though.

that is a result of incredibly 'woke' city. they vote for that problem so they get that problem.

@@alanj9978 no kidding, those in the south end myself included, get no say in all these wethouses and temp shelters that go in, just the other day when i went to the Bowen road T.D bank to see about a small problem with my ATM card, the two people in front of me in line were higher than fuck, and they were not told to leave...

Stop it! We have enough people moving to Nanaimo, driving prices up and up. Stay where you are and tough it out. I know this is one of the nicer places on the planet, but...what about the Nanaimonians? We have to pay more and more for EVERYTHING. Continously for the last 20 years. Insanity. That is it. I am raising my prices. So there...
