Thanks for the tips I’ll check out my 80 series. Otram also has a useful video on pre inspection on the 1fzfe which can be applied to all engines. Keep up the interesting videos.

Thank you for the info!! I had a 91 that I had to sell due to the amount of rust but mostly it was starting to nickel and dime me to death. Having said that these are things about 80 series I have never heard of except the rust to floor boards...guess how I know? Anyway I plan on purchasing another and I will be sure to check these out. Thanks again!

Excellent video. I have been putting up with a notchy 1st and 2nd gear for years but never bothered to mention it to my mechanic. I know so little about cars but watching videos like this helps me learn. Thank you!

I’m glad that you found this useful. If you wish to fix then itchy gears the gearbox will have to be taken out and striped dow. They will replace the first and second gear sincro ring. I took mine to a gearbox and diff place to get Thai done. Just a warning it’s not overly cheep as it is a big job.

I live in the United States and you all get all the good rigs down there. I have four different 80 Series from 1994-1997, but all petrol manuals:( Sadly, that is all we could get. No worries though, 350 small block chevy's end up in most rigs in the end. I thought I knew a lot about 80 Series, but you just shows me a bunch of new stuff I never checked. Thanx for the vid:)

Mine had a severe crack at the chassis where the steering box bolts go through the chassis but it was not visible due to all the mud and stuff caked all over the chassis from end to end, I only found out when I went to Pedders to see what the issue was with the steering after I had the roadworthy done and some other maintenance work done on it. I had it welded up and some plates made up, welded in place and an extra one also made and welded in place, that I found out about from a forum website talking about an extra plate going along the arm to further strengthen it up. It was a reasonably cheap fix due to a nice guy I found out about here in Werribee Melb that has done this to several other 80's as it is a common occurrence. It was all done for approx $500 which I was quite happy with and he even spray painted it and gave me a warranty with his job.

Check the coolant lines from the engine to the rear-heater under the passenger seat. It's really exposed and prone to rust.

Never heard of these issues before. On my way to check mine. Any chance those issues are more specific to 80s that have been wheeled really hard? Most of these issues would suggest it. Anyways, checking mine. Thanks!

Roland Rosso cracks are more prone in ones that have been off-road and or lifted. But sterling box crack is a known issue and there is a fix plate that can be welded in. I found all this out the hard way. So thought I would share

Hmmm, lots of good things I've never thought to check. Luckily, I bought mine stock and the guy never used it off road, and in a state where they don't salt the roads. So I got lucky on all of these things. I'm the U.S. also, so mines a LHD. Is yours a manual and diesel? That's sick.

Now I got to ask...how do the crack in the steering part of the chassis happens.an the small bar that goes from one side to the other.an the cracked axle bit..well I may as well ask how does it all happen..
@blackllama1
@blackllama1 3 жыл бұрын
Xxxx Xxxx it’s usually in cars that have been used of road. To my understanding it’s just when certain forces are put on things they start to crack. The one on the radius mount is usually in lifted cars. So changed from Toyota’s original specs. The steering box one is a known fault from Toyota,

@@donny-ho1bm Yeah mine is the same.. only the springs n shocks were done and he had 35's on it... so I went down to 33's, there is no need to be that high for my use. I did all the same as you, camber kit, panhard bars, and extension sway bar arms, it all makes it ride better now.

@rightyouareken7587
@rightyouareken7587 3 жыл бұрын
Neutral safety switch most likely. Several lights weren’t working and it would slip in low gear and reverse on mine a few years back. The connectors get corroded and fail. Pretty easy fix if you have a lift, otherwise it’s a bitch to get at

Ayo, Im trying to go look at an 97 Land Cruiser and its got 360,000 miles, what should check on it and is it gonna be a reliable car despite all those miles?
@blackllama1
@blackllama1 5 ай бұрын
I would look at the points in this video. Outside that look the same as you would with any car you purchase. Check how clean the oil is ect. As for how reliable that all depends on how it has been treated and how you treat it if you get it. Remember they are getting to be an older car now.

It sounds like from what hes told me it was his family car, so mostly hauling kids and wife around. Im worried most about rust as I live in Northern Montana in US and its extremely snowy and icy for periods. But his has been sitting in his mechanics workshop for most of that time

@@spookytoof8 without Seeing it it’s hard to say. There is still a lot of good ones around that have been looked after. I would take a flashlight and have a good look around under it for rust.
