This is a great video.. iv only started tattooing about six months ago.. iv done a good on practice skin and one on myself.. iv now done two on my wife which came out pretty good for a beginner.. everything said here is great advise.. I'm not an apprentice tho I'm learning from people like this on KZfaq and it's working big time.. I'm a full time qualified plasterer by day and training tattoos by night.. cheers for all this content it's so so helpful..

It always surprises me how similar the tattoo industry is to the culinary industry - from working free for knowledge, party lifestyle can suck you in, never time off people think you’re dying to cook for them when you’re on a off 🤣

"Not everyone who messages you about getting a tattoo is actually going to get it." I've never heard a more true statement in my LIFE!!! Granted, people change their minds or what have you. But I have never ran into a more flakey group of people than those who "want to get inked". 😂

The last few points are sort of discouraging me, I really enjoy my off time and lounging around time. And to be working around the clock like that I would feel my work life balance be compromised. As much as I enjoy art I occasionally need to decompress from everything, like daily. I would like to know more about the work life balance, and the daily rhythm and hours

You have to establish wear you think the value of a hard line with clients would be. If you want that healthier lifestyle it might come at a slight sacrifice to picking up clientele. But if you put a hard stop at say 7 or 8 pm where you'll no longer reply to people on your tattoo socials it's truly your choice. Most people will understand that and you can reply back in the am when you're getting about your grind again. Find a balance that suits you.

@@Loki-Grandmaster the artists in my town are here to make a living, and knock out some sick tattoos. That being said, they're all really nice, but they have a hard foot when it comes to setting boundaries. If they say text only, they will not message you back, because they mean, Text Only. If they say they are not taking requests for the weekend and only doing flash, that's that. If they say they need time to design their piece, so be it. It isn't indicative of their shop, of their ethics, or their work flow balance. More indicative of how much space they need to be creative, while not burning out. Nobody wants a burnt out tattoo artist! Anyone who would dare pressure you into creating (clientele) IS NOT ready for a tattoo, period

I don’t see why you shouldn’t be able to set boundaries, like any other business. That point sounds a bit like the old school way of thinking to me.

Worth mentioning, you can get a shop cellphone that is fully tax deductible and set it to do not disturb for a certain amount of time. Compartmenatlizing in any job is necessary. I spent 11 years on call 24/7 and its the only way I survived.

Love your content! i'm apprentice 2 years in, its soooo fking hard still, i still strugle with ALOT of things, there has been days where i have gone home in the shower and almost cried out of frustration......... btw, you recommand the flite nano, i'm getting one soon with 3.2mm stroke, 3.5mm stroke aswell... What stroke did you use with it for "all arounder" i need to be able to soft shade, and line aswell, do i need 2 machines? one with 4mm stroke, and one with 3.2mm stroke? that would be most optimal right? - I'm lineing now with a cheyenne thunder, but i dont like shadeing with that.
@Tattooing101
@Tattooing101 2 жыл бұрын
for an all arounder machine go with 3.5, but i use 2 different ones have a 3mm. with a soft bar for black and gray. and then a 4mm stroke with a hard bar for big lines and color. but if you are only using one machine for now go with 3.5

The #1 thing for me was "it's not as easy as you'd think!" I figured hey, I can draw in a straight line, how hard can it be? Boy was I wrong! And so far I'm just doing black , there's no way I'll ever be doing shading, realistic, etc.... I'm not artistic in that way. The main reason I bought a kit was because it was 50 bucks, but to do the tattoo my wife wants they were going to charge her 500.00, so I figured fuck it, I'll do her tat myself. NOPE! 😂
