You missed the several most notorious locations for rust, at least on the early, pre-galvanized cars. Front pan and gas tank support, floor pans, longitudinals, door sills, floor pans, package tray, door bottoms, and rear seat buckets. It is imperative that these areas be inspected for rust and/or shoddy repairs.

Especially the floors. I have a 66 Sunroof 912 with very little rust except the floor in the front. I also have a nearly finished 67, very similar rust problem. The only other problem areas were around the jack points. Both California cars!

Still have invoices from Autofarm dated 1975 for heat exchangers, front air dam and rear duck tail spoiler for my ‘72 911 T. (Wish I still had the car)

Hi Sam, great points! And, what a beautiful car! I love the color too, but it is just the bee's knees! When shopping for our 993, I was able to pass on a few cars quickly (even from marginal on-line photos) by just looking at panel gaps. Especially the bonnet to bumper on the 993 - that one is very difficult to get right. I called out a seller on bad gaps and he finally had to come clean with some front end damage... I also look for original radio, and interior so the wiring hasn't been mangled and same for wheels and such. I guess another is aftermarket do-dads like race pedals and low cost nothing add-ons that show the owner was more interested in looks than service. Just found your channel and I really like it! Franny

Panel gaps is a massive thing for sure. How long have you had the 993? I have such a great love for Porsche’s now. They’ve got into my bones

Hi Sam, We have had our ('95 cab) for a few years now and it is an amazing car! Everyone said "last of the aircooled, bal, bla, bla" but one quick drive to the end of the street and I was hooked! Just beautiful to drive and still feels classic. Big engine (3.6L), but doesn't feel that fast, but that multi link rear suspension is pretty awesome. I'm sure you are super busy, but check out our channel - we have a review of the 993 (and all our others). It is very different than the 3.2 Carrera and the 996 Turbo as well. I just love your car! It must be amazing to drive :) Franny

Great info. Strong engines. In a race we were suspicious that a competitor had a 3.2 internals in his 3.0, took it a part and displacement still was 3.0, only he had different piston diameters to spec up torque curves. At least that was what he said

Great vid. I think you need to get your car next to TGEs 911T for a photo shoot, they would look so good together.

I had to replace a front fender. I thought it was in good shape till we sanded and realized it was full of makup!!! Still in the reno now, but i'm doing a complete reno, so all will be new. 3rd porsche project
@JIANYM36
@JIANYM36 5 жыл бұрын
A complete reno of an old porsche is usually 25g, besides the car and I mean changing most of the part to the bolts. Now if your mechanic is too expensive it can easily go to 40+g. Also paint can go from 3g to 10g. The best is to know who will do the work and ask people who's the best. Falling on a bad mechanic/ painter.... can be a nightmare.

I disagree with the "labor charges" as part of the documentation. A mechanically inclined owner is more likely to do the job correctly than a mechanic who is in a rush to get a quick turnaround. The mechanic will not be doing 100+ MPH in the car on track day while the owner will be putting his/her life in the hands of the person whom repaired the vehicle.

The vast majority of Porsche owners have neither the skill or the time to do mechanical repairs, even fewer are capable of even minor body and paint repairs.

A genuine original 924 gt is quite a rarity, so how can it be a cheap way to get a Porsche owner ? Go for a 944 turbo instead....I owned the 220 hp and it was a great daydriver beyond being as quick as the 3200Carrera on the highway straights. Still available at bargain price as far as I know.

as much as I appreciate good paperwork because it can often help in dealing with problems, I honestly cannot understand the fascination with stacks of paper. You buy a car to enjoy driving it or to enjoy looking at it. You'd have to be pretty pretentious to value a certain car more just because there's an extra rare original part in it.

I like when it verifies work that’s been done etc. On older cars it’s nice to have a bit of a history of owners and where it’s been etc

@@sammooresphoto I guess a lot of people appreciate it. Wouldn't be such a popular factor otherwise. I just don't really care where the car's been, unless it was the bottom of a lake or a car crash, which I've seen be covered up pretty well in videos.

I paid $12K for my 67 and in the last 6 months I’ve spent another $45K doing all the bodywork and paint myself. Because of the Coronavirus prices are down temporarily but my car would sell for at least $75K and will probably be worth more and more as the years go by. Early 911S sold for about $10K now maybe $150K . Once an older Porsche is restored they are incredibly reliable and increase in value every year. Right now because of the pandemic there are some great deals out there.

This missed the 928. the 911 is the poor man's 928. the 928 won "Car" of the year - no other sports car has ever won "Car" of the year. the 928 has two production car land speed records(1986 and 2020). the 928 is the biggest bang for the buck in exotic cars as well as the entire Porsche line up.

Don't look is the best investment advice. The 911 is the poor man's 928. Sorry - I gotta call balls and strikes. the 928 was European "Car" of the Year 1979. No other sports car including the 911 has ever won "Car" of the year. The 928 has won 2 production car land speed record at Bonneville (1986 and 2020) - the 911 has exactly won none. Even 911 enthusiast Magnus Walker has started his 928 collection - its Now or Never for the 928 still the biggest Bang for the Buck in classic Porsches. Singer/RWB/RUF could easily reimagine 928s - its just a matter of time before someone specializes in customizing and outlawing 928s - There is no substitute.

928 is a gt, not a sportscar, and has controversial styling. Apart from that way to complex to repair. That’s why values stay low.
