are you planning on adding a rainwater collection system to give the chickens water so you don't have to? A barrel with a pipe and some of the nipples the chickens can peck to get water seems like a good way.

We do collect rain water but I like having a smaller container that is easy to clean so I just fill the waterer with the rain water barrel.

I hear sometimes about chickens being fussy if you add new ones to the mix of an established brood and even being mean to the new guy. Is that something you’ve experienced? We don’t have chickens yet but it’s on the list of goals. :)
@ashventure19034 жыл бұрын
We didn’t have that problem because ours were pretty young still when we introduced the new chickens (it’s supposed to be easier before 6 weeks) but I have heard that is a huge issue. Chickens are so fun, I couldn’t recommend it enough!

How do you clean the eggs so you don’t need to refrigerate them? Or DO you clean the eggs? I know in the US commercial eggs have to be refrigerated but in most parts of Europe you don’t have to refrigerate them because they clean them in a way that maintains the “cuticle”.
@ashventure19034 жыл бұрын
We don’t clean them until we are ready to use them so we don’t have to refrigerate them. Wow I did not know that, how cool! I wonder if cleaning them to maintain the cuticle is more time consuming/expensive and that’s why the US doesn’t do it.

@gary_babich4 жыл бұрын
We currently have 3 chickens and they are great. From time to time there is one girl that consists on staying in the laying box. I always take her out and she eventually stays out but it seems to happen every few weeks. I know she's trying to hatch (an egg) but I'm hoping she loses that habit. Have you had this happen to one of your girls yet? (The girls almost a year old.)
@ashventure19034 жыл бұрын
I haven’t had that happen yet but I’m sure it eventually will. I’ve heard of it getting really bad with hens refusing to come out even to eat! Try giving her a cool bath when that happens, I hear their body temp goes up when they get broody so if you get her temp down it might help.
@gary_babich4 жыл бұрын
