I'm surprised you didn't mention the all aluminum framed structure! Much better than stick framed with a steel trailer. I'm sure there is also no plywood walls. Meaning no delamination or mold in your walls! These are the design features that impress me by Intech.

You are very right. I guess we focused more on amenities of the Horizon. You are so very right about the welded aluminum frame. Also the floor is a triple layer of aluminum, polycarbonate and polyplywood. All water resistant! We haven't had a chance to take it out, but will be very soon!

I think supply chains kind of dictate what outdoor fridge you get, but I am happy we got the Dometic. I agree that that would help with keeping it clean also. Every chance I have I will be using campsite facilities, but always good to have in a clutch.

We went thru the same process. We went and looked as so many campers and were very interested int he basecamp. We loved the openness of it, but the lack of storage and the price ultimately killed it for us. The Horizon was a wonderful middle ground with great build quality. Let us know if we can help in any way!

Just spent quite a bit of time touring and inspecting a SOL Dusk. We have been RVing since 2019 with a nuCamp t@b 400 Boon Dock Lite, so we are experienced with small campers. Our initial impressions were positive, then we spent about 90-mins really going through the TT and comparing features/storage/power outlets, etc., to our current rig. In the end, the only real positive for us was the North to South twin bed layout. Here are out dislikes. Start with power outlets; In the kitchen there are two 110 but they are on the end of the counter top next to the sink. Anything you plug in will have a cord extending over the sink. At the dinette, there are no 110 outlets but a twin USB outlet under the over head storage bind. In the bedroom power outlets next to both beds. We have a wetbath now with three storage shelves and it was disappointing to see little to no storage in the wetbath on the SOL except for a hanging cloth/nylon portable storage system. No place to hang wet towels, so a buyer would need a good stock of Command Strips. They offered a solar lithium package for an additional $8000 but according to two Intech reps, depending on the outside temperature, you would only get between two and six hours of power for the A/C. Sitting at the dinette and turning the table we found the pedestal to be very loose, basically the table would sway about two inches in any direction. Storage; it's easy to be impressed by the storage cabinets but most are too shallow for anything but small items. This is especially true of the cabinets above the bed. The ones over the dinette are deeper so that'll help. The drawers under the kitchen cabinet are shallow and my wife thinks the bottom of the drawers felt like cheap press wood. We looked at a 2023 SOL right next to the Dusk and the bottom of the drawers appeared to be made from the same material as the sides and that is nice but the 2024 felt like you could basically take your hand and push the bottom off. Obviously there are PROS, the power awning is very nice as is the outdoor kitchen. Two propane tanks if you get the ROVER edition plus raised suspension and larger tires would be great boon docking. The ROVER also comes with a trailer/tow hitch capable of 500lbs and that's great as we haul two 60lb ebikes. On the curb side next to the outdoor kitchen is the only outside storage compartment. Seems adequate for your box of electrical stuff and fresh water hoses/filters. I think it was deep and high enough to even stack two folding chairs on top of your gear boxes. There is a storage platform in front of the propane storage area, so there is space to strap a storage box or whatever you need there. The off the lot price was just around $51k and the dealership we were at did take trades. In the end we opted out because as my wife said it "we were not really upgrading in many areas in comparison to what we had in our t@b". I could have looked passed the storage and wetbath but I wanted a more efficient solar/power unit. I "think" and I couldn't find it in my notes but I "think" the tech said the heat is only propane. If that's true and again, on this fact I could be wrong, I would have preferred 110 or propane as we have in our t@b. I did like the SOL, just didn't see it in the end being that big of an upgrade to what we have and is paid for now. All that said, the larger SOL (dual axle) is outstanding in every aspect except the solar but at 8500lbs, you need a tow vehicle equivalent to a Ford F-250.

Wow.. that’s a lot to unpack. I would have to agree with pretty much everything you have stated. Once we got our horizon rover we did put a LOT into “upgrades” to make it the way we want. Storage is a huge issue. We had to get very efficient with our use of the space. It definitely is not designed for people who need a lot of cloths or stuff with them. On our trip out west in August we ended up purchasing a RAM 1500 and put a very secure tonneau cover on it so we could use the bed for additional storage which worked out great for us. We also upgraded the battery to 2 Lithium totaling 200Ah of useable storage. This changed the game for us. As far as build quality, I cannot speak to the 2024 models, but ours is very well built. I guess we need to go do a walk thru on the 2024 models and see what has changed. We did buy bulk command strips, but it gave us a lot of flexibility without damaging the camper. My rule is no holes (although I broke that rule to install the door under the dinette seat, which was a GREAT upgrade). The dual axel InTech is actually not a Sol product, that is the terra line and WOW, we would love to upgrade to that in a heartbeat if we could. We debated between the Tab and the horizon a lot but kept coming back to the build quality and features that matched our aesthetic. I actually LOVED some of the features in the TAB and am a little jealous of the push out windows and especially the HUGE rear window. Thanks for watching, I am working on our next series of videos now and expect to have them starting to drop soon. Happy Camping!

I agree that even lesser quality or less expensive campers have or will at least offer the convection microwave instead. My gripe is the no bathroom sink. 🤦‍♀️ Again, lesser quality and less expensive campers even managed to include a bathroom sink or basin. I think they could managed it without taking away too much space. 🤷🏻‍♀️ A bigger refrigerator would’ve been nice but the outdoor kitchen compensate for it.
@wanderingfireflies
@wanderingfireflies Жыл бұрын
We agree. A sink would have been much appreciated in such a spacious bathroom. Even a small corner sink. Maybe in a future update. We also agree on the fridge. The outdoor fridge is a wonderful add on, but it's just that an add on. It costs more to get. I know they are making the best they can with form and function, but hopefully they will be up for criticism.

We bought the Sol Dawn and have some of the same dislikes that you do.....we sleep north to south on our bed, so that is not a big issue. Would have loved the convection oven, but we have an Omnia stovetop oven and an air fryer which does solve our baking issues. We probably have more problem with not having some sort of very small basin to wash our hands in and brush our teeth in when using the bathroom. If we are near the camp bathhouse, we tend to use that during the day. Our biggest issue at the moment is the Dometic fridge freezing our veggies.....hopefully, that problem will be solved next trip out. I don't really think there is a utopia when buying a camper....my in-laws had a 5th wheel camper and I heard my MIL complain a lot about this or that.....we were looking for well built and believe InTech has a very good product. As we plan to hit the road in the next few years, that is what really matters!

Just took delivery of our 2023 Sol Horizon Rover edition - we're so excited to get out camping. Funny enough, ours came with the 12v refrigerator and it's definitely bigger - we had the same 3-way Dometic refrigerator in our Aliner - it's a great fridge and we rarely had any problems storing a week's worth of food. I'll miss being able to run on propane when boon docking but the 12v pulls something like 3.5 amps, only when cycled on - my solar suitcase (200W - provides about 11amps in full sun when angled correctly) will have no problem keeping up with up with the fridge and keeping the battery topped off. I actually like the combined gray/black water tank. We crossed shopped other smaller, no slide units like the T@B 400 and the Little Guy Max. The T@B 400 has a 12g black and 18g gray or a combined 30g capacity. The Little Guy Max has a 25 gal to 30 gal gray tank but only a 9 gal blank tank. A 9 gal black tank is just too small and I don't want to go back to using an external/portable tank (the ALiner had no onboard gay tanks) for black water. The Sol Horizon's 32 gal combined tank gives you flexibility in that you don't have to worry about one tank filling up before another one, requiring you to break camp and go dump your tanks. I do think we have the same outdoor fridge, the Dometic CFF. Looking forward to more Sol Horizon content. -Mike

Thanks Mike! I am curious about what solar option you went with. I have been researching forever to choose the right one that is light but at least 200W. We haven't had a chance to get out with the combined tank yet, but from the more I read about it, it might be more of an advantage than a disadvantage.

@@wanderingfireflies I went with a Renogy 200W suitcase, granted it was for my old camper (Aliner) but still will work great for the Sol. I chose to go with a suitcase style rather than mounted roof panels because sometimes I like to camp in a shady spots and being able to run the panels out 10’ or 20’ from my camper was important . I chose the Renogy brand because it seem like the best value for money. While not as expensive as a set of Zamp panels and doesn’t have the higher end MTTP charge controller, at 200W the efficiency difference between an MTTP vs a PWM controller is immaterial. According the reviews, the panels are almost just as good as Zamp’s panels. If I were living full time in a rig, I would go the extra mile and try to get the very best, but for weekend & weeklong trips I just didn’t see the value. I also cross shopped flexible/soft panels but in the end those seemed like they would fly away to get blown over in anything but a light breeze - I like to camp along close to the beach so wind can be an issue.

Love the camper always have; yet the East to West bed gets old quickly if there is no exit for the inner bed sleeper. We traded in our previous TT soily based on the bed being East to West. Sadly they didn't give the Sol Magnolia the few inches it needed to have the option for "Twin Beds"
@wanderingfireflies
@wanderingfireflies 11 ай бұрын
We were just talking about the Magnolia last night. In our opinion it was a missed opportunity. We understand they were trying to fill in the gap between the Horizon and the Terra.. but the fact that it is a double axel and weighs the same as the Terra, why wouldn't you just get a Terra. It is more spacious and has dry baths. If we can ever move up thats what we are going to get.

@@1953MMike The general rule is that you need to have a vehicle that can tow at least 25% more then the GVWR. So that would make it almost 3900 lbs. You also need to keep in mind 2 other things. The tongue weight of the camper, and what tongue weight your tow vehicle can handle. Intech campers are usually very tongue heavy. Also that your payload rating of the tow vehicle is. You do not want to overload the payload rating. Please check the specks on your vehicle to see if it falls into it.
