And yet you both forgot Dragon skin or Dragon armor member that but since they talked trash on the sappy plate they got banned from selling their equipment to the military mercenaries and private contractors could get it. They showed a full mag through an AK four mag through an AR 15 and then they put a grenade on it remember
@godofawesum2239 жыл бұрын
Jason Flessner "you can take only 1-2 rounds before you really want to put new plates in" Sapi's should always be replaced after any hit as the plate is then compromised. That being said I have personally seen sapi plates that have stopped as many and more than a dozen rounds. THAT being said, you should only ever be hit once and then you get your ass behind cover so you don't get hit again. and finally THAT being said, don't get hit in the first place. ar500 is a fuck ton heavier then our standard interceptor plates

Metal plates are far more common and useful in modern war. Kevlar requires more and more layers to stop powerful rounds. It also bends and allows more of the force to be applied to a small area on the soldier's chest or back (leading to more injuries). Steel, titanium, and ceramic plates are heavier but way better.

Wrong! The modern body armour worn inside plate carriers is NOT out of kevlar but instead either out of steel(level 3 protection) or out of steel-ceramic composite material(level 4 protection) that is capable of stopping AP rounds fired out of a rifle. The soft body armour out of kevlar(level 2A - 3A) worn by police officers can't stop rifle rounds.

Actually first succesfull body armor was developed by two Poles by the names of Jan Szczepanik and Kazimierz Żegleń in 1901. Their vest was really popular in 1902 and even saved Alfons XIII's (king of Span) life. But it got forgotten pretty quickly due to new bullet types.

+Lolek/Plasica/edmStuff Yes that is correct. But more precise term would be 'ballistic vest' (which is closer to 'bullet resistant' than 'bulletproof'). And for the notice, this wasn't the first ballistic vest, but it was first with confirmed success in saving life. Most of the prizes Jan Szczepanik received was his work with photography and sculpture technique.

@JoeWolfDawson8 жыл бұрын
+Bran Phillips look at that armor think you can crawl up out of an 8-10 foot deep trnch in it? and carry and successfully use a rifle while wearing it? I have seen footage of them testing them in trenches made in the US at testing grounds. With out a ladder ( which were NOT used when attacking en masse from a trench) it is almost impossible but by the time you get out of the trench the enemy has either moved or is on your position and you would be too tired to fight.
@chriscos1238 жыл бұрын
+Joe “Wolf” Dawson Those creeper tanks seem pretty effective though, any sort of mobile cover would be excellent for pushing a front line.

Yeah they do seem to work pretty good...
@4k8t8 жыл бұрын
Bear in mind the test was run on relatively smooth grassed field. Try pushing that across 100-200 yards or more of obstacle and debris littered mud. If it was deployed, the likely response would be to put barrages of artillery (or mortars) on on the advancing line or even the trench line since the creepers didn't look to be easily deployed and would be quite obvious. Don't forget you lose command and control over your force when the troops are busy struggling to push those along.

The Soldier shot in the SAPI plate was a member of the 256th IBCT, my parent unit in Iraq 2004-2005. Somewhere in my old pictures I have one of him showing the red mark from the SVD 7.62x54r round, much like the hit of a paintball round on his chest. He's grinning like a possum eating cheesecake for damn good reasons. Personally I was happier when I ditched the full IBA for just plate carriers in Afghanistan later on. @thewatcher_4768 жыл бұрын
+TheArnoldification really racist comment about any person you can think of
@TheArnoldification8 жыл бұрын
TheWatcher _ I really don't think "racist" is the right word. Remember that pretty much 95% of the time that's an abusable cover-up for minorities so they don't have to cope with their own shortcomings. Derrogatory comments towards specific kinds of people also isn't necessarily racist. For example, I wouldn't necessarily classify a joke about black people as racist on it's own because jokes usually aren't vitriolic, but manipulative of their subject matter (as a joke at it's core is just unexpected absurdity.)
@thewatcher_4768 жыл бұрын
TheArnoldification you can make racist jokes all you want in my opinion, because... *they're just jokes!* but racism is a thing, as in not getting jobs because you are black/asian/whatever or things like that
@TheArnoldification8 жыл бұрын
TheWatcher _ That's really not true either. Ever notice when people throw around those sob stories, they never give sufficient context so the third party can make an educated decision on the matter? It's because minorities use "oppression" and "racism" to their advantage. That in of itself is corrupt. Legitimate oppression or racism is actually pretty rare in developed countries. If you want to see examples of legitimate oppression or racism then visit developing countries. Trust me, it's almost always bullshit.

If it were dangerous like that it would be more or less equally dangerous just to fire a gun (re: law of motion 2). A bullet doesn't have so much force as to send you flying back when it hits you.

Why does he have his body armor on backwards? Drag handle should be behind the neck, right?
@TeflonNapkins9 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily. Depends on the design of the vest.
@jmiyagisan9 жыл бұрын
ConcealedArtLeather your are correct (to funny). I didn't catch it until I was reading your comment and went back to see the video again. Whomever put the rig together, put the pouches on the opposite side. The drag handle is supposed to be on the back and if you look at the back of the current set up in the video, those 2 raised area's on the shoulder are for the quick release buckles and where the emergency release cable goes through, to release the entire rig from the operator in the event of immediate medical care. Good eye.

Im sure someone else already put this but SAPI plates as fielded in the early years of OIF and Afghanistan were ceramic, not Kevlar. Later in the years, E-SAPI plates featured the same ceramic but with layers of Kevlar surrounding it.

Ooo - Ooo! I know why! Silk may be stronger than steel in tensile strength, but it stretches too much. So getting hit by a bullet, while wearing a silk vest against your skin, still allows nearly all the kinetic energy to transfer to the body and cause damage. Fun fact: In another documentary I've seen, ancient Japanese horsemen/warriors wore a silk "parachute" on their backs that could stop an arrow from hitting them. While at gallop, the silk billowed out like an air bag. Any arrows would hit the silk, get slowed down as the silk wrapped itself around the arrow. The tensile strength of the silk prevented the fabric from separating, while it's 'stretchability' worked in it's favor to "capture" the arrow.

Modern day plate carriers that are issued to our Armed Forces have a deattachable sections for the upper arms, back below the waist, and the groin area. these are only designed to stop fragmentation. Imagine running with the crotch piece on and having a heavy plate swinging and hitting you there. It might not stop a bullet, but some protection is better than shrapnel in your balls. To answer your question though, life would not be worth living though without your balls... I do agree...

To the best of my knowledge the Arch-Duke was wearing a tunic made of layers of silk that were reportedly able to stop bullets, It worked well enough for a demonstration by the man who created it, however, the Arch-Duke was shot in the neck by a Serbian assassin, and this was the wound that killed him.

@EnjoyCocaColaLight8 жыл бұрын
+Michael V They are. The plates themselves. There's also kevlar.
@lynchkid0038 жыл бұрын
+Michael V It's a common misconception, The actual plates are made using various materials including: Metals, Ceramics, Kevlar, and sometimes even Plastics. The different Types of plates are used to defend against a wide variety of threats. For example, A steel backed SAPI plate will stop some rifle rounds, but you risk Fragments injuring to Wearer. That's why they use several different materials and layer them, Softer materials on the outside to slow the bullet and catch fragments, with harder materials as the center to provide the stopping power. Either way, you're still going to feel it, the energy transfer alone is going to leave some serious bruises, and possibly break bones if the round in a high enough caliber. EX: Dragonscale armor, Which uses several ioverrlaping plates, is rated to stop a .50 calliber round, but the wearer would still die from the pure kinetic transfer, which would cause fatal internal injuries, and Possibly liquefy organs. Not a fun way to go.

My list. 1. The USSR did more to advance body armor design than anybody else. 2. "Stab" vests are divided between blade-resistant and spike-resistant. 3. NIJ has 4.5 levels, EU has 3, GOST has 6. 4. WW1 tank crews wore chainmail. 5. Kevlar is only one of many ballistic aramids.

It's great that SAPI plates cover a good amount of torso surface but it does leave your sides exposed, particularly around the armpits, and unfortunately bullets can strike near your heart and lungs if shot at the right angle. I'm curious to know if anything is being done to help prevent this. Does anyone know?

Francis Ferdinand ( 1863-1914) Was taken to the hospital after seven assassins ( equipped with bombs and revolvers) approached his motorcade as it drove through the narrow streets of Sarajevo. The first would-be assassin threw a bomb into the open car, glanced off of Ferdinand's arm, and landed near another vehicle ( injuring dozens of spectators) Despite this, Ferdinand went to the scheduled reception at city hall, and after attending this he instructed his driver to take him to a near by hospital to tend to his wounds. While on his way, Gavrilo Princip ( 1894-1918) fired his revolver into the open car, blowing a gaping hole into his neck, the second bullet ( presumably intended for the governor of Bosnia) struck Ferdinand's expecting wife Sophie. It was reported that his dying plead was " Sophie dear! Don't die! Stay alive for our children!" Yet when medical aid arrived they had both perished.

They SAPI plates aren't 'kevlar plates,' they are made of ceramic material. I thought the title of this video was kind of stupid in that it should be, "5 things you MIGHT not know about body armor," but not only that it is poorly researched as well.
@johnd44085 жыл бұрын
One thing I do know (first hand) about body armor. You do not want anything attached to your belly and chest. When you are taking heavy fire and in the open with no cover close by. You will hit the deck/dirt and will want too belly crawl to cover. Imagine your butt sticking up in the air and all your magazines jammed up with sand/dirt (that turns into a very bad day really quick). You will definitely want to get as low as you possibly can to the ground if not under the ground when bullets are whizzing by, just inches away!
