I choked when you said 11,000 and then promptly crapped a brick when you said 50k…. Woof. Are prices in the UK just astronomical? Setting up my first reef tank here in the states and I’m nearly ready to add water. Total so far is roughly 2k. I could see another grand to go but I hope it never reaches 11!! But your tank is beautiful. If I can make mine look half as good I’ll be happy.

Another fantastic video and great to show us newbies the kind of tank to aspire to. I love your intro videos on the basics of how to start but one think I have always wondered is advice on the next step. Many reefers stop once the “ugly brown stage” starts and there isn’t a lot of resources on what to do next,… I just wondered if you had any thoughts or planned upcoming videos showcasing this?

So i had to pause just as you were saying figures and i thought to myself "lol sounded like he was gonna say thousand but theres no way, hes probably gonna say 11 hundred" but nope you actually said thousand. How on earth did you spend £11,000 on a tank that doesnt even look that big?!!?!? Ive spent £300 on setting up my Evo and i thought even that was pretty unacceptable, i dont intend on spending any more on anything other than a couple of fish and some of the cheaper corals...i cant even imagine what i would do if my bank had £11,000 in it. very lucky man to be so well off!

Thanks for this video, as a fellow UK reefer I know just how expensive it is in this country compared to US . I'm 7 months in on a Reefer 250 and am EASILY £6k+ into it and I consider myself very much just getting started. One thing of note, near me (East coast Scotland) at lot of the dedicated reef shops are closing down due to energy costs and lack of customer disposable income which is a real shame. This leaves only the larger lower quality stores with poor fish health and crap selections of corals. I've recently had to start buying online for the first time.

The initial setup is expensive for sure. However, my ongoing maintenance of the tank is fairly minimal as far as expenses. Fish food. All for Reef and two part, salt, carbon, RODI refills and electricity. I also replenish the cleanup crew every few months. There is no limit on how much you can spend, but you can also get away with just a few hundred bucks per year if you leave things alone and have a thriving reef.

I would actually like someone to work this out. Calculating power usage is difficult with so many variables. I’m guessing you would need an apex or similar and even at that you would need to track it for at least a year without any changes. I currently have 3 tanks with 22 plugs. 16 of these are on my reef tank and technically 18 if you count the heater and fan being plugged into the temp controller.
@TwoScottishReefers
@TwoScottishReefers 2 жыл бұрын
@@NoelG-IRE its very easy to track it. All you need is a power monitoring plug that will track the kwh used. I have got one and it cost me £10. My tank was costing £40 a month in electricity before the uk energy price hikes. Its probably closer to £70. And is due to increase again in October.
