For anyone watching this and thinking how am I going to make connections if I'm in an area with nothing around, well it's 2016 the social media era. You have a cell phone and or Internet, start adding professionals and other like you trying to get in the business. You gotta ask questions, pick there brains and post online. Yet, I understand as artist some of us are introverts and do not like to speak to others. Have a great day! Thanks again Bobby.

I agree in what you are saying. It is always great getting out, and going to conventions - Networking is key to survival for us artists! Staying cool on instagram is one thing, but being remembered when the jobs are segregated is another aspect.

#5 Is VERY important. Sometimes a job can take you a couple of months to complete and has got you pretty swamped. Gotta stay creatively productive to prevent from wanting to punch anyone in the face.

Hello Bobby. I wanted to express to you how much you are helping and encouraging me on my path. I was a professional fantasy (romantasy) artist in my 20s and 30s. I gave it up to operate an animal rescue sanctuary with my daughter, which was something that left little time or emotion for artistic creativity. You just kind of get through each day. In the last year I have moved back into my earlier career only to see how much has changed. Sometimes I feel a bit left behind in the dust in this industry but I want you to know that t is not just kids starting out as artists that you are speaking to. It is also someone like me who is getting back into the world of art and really finding it an uphill battle in that return. Keep up the good work and thanks. Autumn Domoslai

wow! love your tips. :) I realized about a third of the way through your video that you have a piece from my second cousin Nathan Fowkes on your wall! I know he's big in concept art, but it's still so crazy to me how his art gets around. I definitely aspire for my art to be as good as his.

Nice one. I did set myself the task of learning something new every day. Be it a tool in software or the contact details of a potential client. It's hard to keep up but worth it if you can. Things can get in the way but I have now set myself a daily/ weekly task list which I try to complete.

Hi Bobby, Thanks for this video. Just what I needed. I recently started my freelance artist career as a storyboard artist in India. Even started a youtube channel to get potential jobs for it. Do you think it's a good strategy as here despite being biggest film industry in the world I found out that half of the industry don't even know what storyboard artist is!

Face to face is good but conventions and especially if you're new may not be the best place for it. For starters they're not cheap and secondly if you're looking to mingle with other artists and learn something new then they're great. But as far as job decision makers go they usually use these type of events to get back in touch with friends they haven't seen in a long time and they do deals privately outside of the convention as well as during closed evening parties that you as a newbie won't have access to unless you have a great relationship with someone that can get you in. So if you can afford it then by all means go for the experience otherwise reach out to people online and arrange Skype calls, etc. in the beginning.

Schoolism is a great place to learn from, but it seems it's for intermediate to advanced artist. What if someone want to start.. they need to learn very basic things such as "Drawing Dynamic Sketching, Organic Sketching, Perspectives....etc" it would be great to see those things on Schoolism.

Have you had issues with clients that when you draw things on your own and post it, think that you're not working on their projects and message you to "check" how the commission is doing?

Because they think you're not working on their project despite the deadline. I had experiences like that.
