Yeah, that's what the Steam Deck is sitting on. I wouldn't use it for that really, but it's good for shooting footage of the Deck. It is really meant for phones, but they do have other tablet holders, I don't know if any of them would work with the Steam Deck.

One thing to add about frame rates. While yes, they are adjustable. Please remember that when you plug in to an HDTV using the dock or another method, the TV will see a signal, but give you an error stating the format is not supported. What this means is that you need to unplug your Deck, and change the FPS to either 30, 60, or 120 fps (if your TV can do 120). Then plug the Deck back in. Hopefully this info helps someone.

@@Joshua-gg8ki I reserved mine on 17th July 2021, so just over a year. However, Valve have doubled production recently, so it's probably along the lines of 6-8 months. You will also have to take in consideration, your region (US, UK or EU) plus which model you reserved. Hopefully there won't be any more supply-chain interruptions either. Edit: Well, scratch that comment, I know what you'll be doing in December lol

One fun tip, if you add a non Steam game that also has a Steam version (maybe you bought it from a different store for instance) it will not by default show the Steam community configs for that game when browsing. If you set the shortcut name to the AppID Steam uses for the Steam version of the game it'll let you browse them. Say for instance you own the GOG version of Cyberpunk 2077 and add it to Steam, if you change the name to 1091500 (visible in the URL of the store page) you can see the ones people who own it on Steam have come up with, then rename back to a more readable one when you find one you like. Don't have a Deck yet so can't 100% verify it'll work still there, but I've been using the trick for years with my Steam Controller/Steam Input with other controllers/etc and would be odd if they changed it now ==EDIT== Have the Deck now, can confirm it still works. Have to export as a template and rechoose if you rename it back, I think I just always left it as the APPID and went by picture instead of name so never noticed that bit. There's also a Steam URI you can run from a browser to pop the configurator for a game without doing the renaming bit if that's easier for you, still need to do the export as template bit. Enter steam://controllerconfig/APPID in a browser and set to open in Steam ==EDIT 2== Trying out URI method, can't get it to work properly even on desktop desktop (as opposed to desktop mode on the Deck), just causes a crash for games I don't own on Steam, got bored with troubleshooting since the renaming method has always worked for me. Could halve the renaming steps by creating a dummy non Steam game that doesn't actually launch anything important and continually renaming that rather than renaming the shortcut for the game itself I suppose.

Get at minimum a USB to USBC dongle, so you can plug something like a keyboard, mouse, or flash drive directly into the Steam deck. Preferably get a USBC-compatible docking station with power supply so you can just plug in all your devices at the same time, in addition to charging. Basically turning the Steam deck into an actual desktop computer. I just use the docking station off my work computer any time I need to do something in Desktop mode, and it works perfectly.

Having issues getting a game to run that uses an external software such as Ubisoft. If you have tried using all the different versions of proton and still those games aren't working. Try deleting the proton files through the quick game manage menu for the game. It solved the issue immediately for me. I definitely like how simple and intuitive SteamInput is. For one of my games (a 2D platformer whose default controls do NOT map the D-pad to menu navigation or character movement!) it was super simple to remap the Deck's D-pad as "Left joystick" (sure, I could also map each D-pad direction to a stick direction individually), and much faster than actually remapping the same controls in-game. However, there are a few things that I would kind of like to map to a combination of buttons, and I'm not sure that's a thing. For example, snapping a screenshot is Steam+R1, but depending on the game that can be an incredibly clunky combination to press -- so I mapped L4/R4 as buttons to take screenshots with. (I kind of would like to map it as L4+R4 so I can use the buttons individually, but...)

Here's a tip, get a silicone case. The deck is kinda big and you don't want to drop it with no protection. That said, most silicone case make using R1 and L1 a bit difficult (especially in games like Dark Souls where you use this 2 buttons all game long) so create a controller template with L4 and R4 set to L1 and R1 since they are much easier to hit than the L1 and R1 that are a bit awkward to press with a case on.

The Back buttons are wonderful I usually map the left and right bumpers to L4 and R4 since resting my fingers on the triggers is a more comfortable grip and the bumpers are a bit awkward with where all the main buttons are. Unless the game does not require faster bumper inputs. I am also still in that phase where my favorite game is installing a game to see if it runs. Tweaking it to see if it can run better. Uninstalling it. And repeating. Though I am playing Yakuza 2 as well.

As a mid 30s gamer, this channel slaps perfectly for me. Thanks for the good content, you got a new suuuuuub. I'll keep looking for more content to help me dive into desktop mode and get more comfortable with what's running underneath, what tweaks I can make, etc.

I’ve just ordered myself a Steamdeck - it’s my first foray into PC gaming and I’m super excited, I have no room in my flat for a PC and I’ve never enjoyed laptops- I LOVE my Nintendo switch because of its portability but the quality of games is just so meh… your videos have helped me so much so far to work out what I’m going to be doing with it. Keep it up, love it

I'm loving my Steam Deck so far, it's pretty much my complete system upgrade, as I was running an i7 3770, 8gb ddr3 1333, 2x 240gb SSDs in Raid 0, an oem R7 450 2gb gpu, and a 1tb 7200 hdd for storage. With my dell 4:3 I had to set Doom 2016 to med low with 50% res scale at 1280x800 (simulated on a 1280x1024 screen, yes black bars) to get around 30fps. With deck I'm running on all High settings at 1280x800 with no scaling, though I do have FSR on. Getting a steady 40fps with 40hz lock

Valve have done an incredible job of squeezing performance out of 4 zen2 cores and 8 RDNA2 cores.

@@malcaniscsm5184 indeed, and just a few minutes ago while waiting to dispatch (at work) , I was getting said performance at about 20w! I work for FedEx, I've delivered 5 or 6 steam decks so far. And yes... The package is super obvious. It even says if it's a 512gb and so on. I'd recommend that when you get a tracking number to try to update shipping instructions for the driver to put it somewhere safe, if possible.

I would not upgrade the internal storage just use the micro SD cards as game cartridges. It's like old video game days where you swap out the cards to play the different games.

Hey man! Liked & Subscribed - nice video, I will definitely watch some more of your stuff on Steam Deck. I've been watching lots of videos in anticipation of receiving mine. Unfortunately I let a freind talk me out of placing my order immediately so I am anticipating receiving mine by end of September. This video will be useful I'm sure!

Tip: Learning Linux while learning the touchpads can get a bit overwhelming. Get a USB-C dongle to plug in a keyboard / mouse / monitor / USB power source, makes the whole learning experience WAY smoother.
