5 Tips On How To Choose and Operate your Foam Cannon - Chemical Guys Car Care

Are you confused on how to or which foam cannon to choose from? Perhaps you have one and need to know how to maintain it?
Nick goes into detail with 5 great tips on choosing, using, and maintaining your foam cannon.
Watch as Nick shows you how to choose the precise foam cannon, as well as using it appropriately for maximum foam coverage to lubricate and lift stuck-on dirt and debris. Not only that, he differentiates between electric pressure washers and gas-powered pressure washers, as we all have much different pressure washers from each other with different levels of PSI and GPM. Nick covers the bases about what each difference of these pressure washers can do to affect the output of foam and suds from your foam cannons because not all are able to produce the same amount.
Tip 1: It's not even about the foam cannon, it's regarding the pressure washer that's required for a foam cannon to function. Nick helps you distinguish between choosing a gas or electric-powered pressure washer.
Tip 2: You've got the pressure washer, but what soap is best for your paint and color? Nick differentiates between the soaps and chooses what's best for this Versa.

You guys should demonstrate it on a really dirty car that hasnt been washed for at least 2 weeks so we can see if the foam is actually working .... Clean car and showing how the cannon works doesnt make any difference since the car is a bit clean.

Electric power washers work fine. The key is the GPM output. Needs to be 2.4 and up for these foam cannons to give you what you are looking for. Shaving cream foam.

A fairly important tip that was missed is to turn off the pressure washer after foaming and moving to the scrubbing stage. Otherwise you'll burn up the pump if you leave it running for more than a couple minutes without pushing water through. (only applies to gas washers of course)

Excellent video! Is pro soap the only way to get thick foam? I used 3oz of Oreileys cars was product and no settings give me foam that thick 😩. How can I do better?

It works amazing with electric. I have been using mine with an 1800 psi BlackMax electric PW. Very effective and easier to maintain, imo.

I have been a ChemicalGuys products user for one whole week now. I honestly thought all of their products were just "hype". Every one of their products is like a miracle cure, on KZfaq. Would it be advisable to run some CLR or white vinegar mixed in with the rinse water for your maintenance rinse to help prevent calcium deposits. Thanks for this excellent timed video for I just purchased my chemical guys EQP 310 Torq and used it for the first time.

We don't recommend it because it may have a negative chemical reaction to the current soap you may be using and may cause more harm than good.

hey! I use a pressure washer from Karcher, and when I put the same amount of soap the cannon doesn't create as much foam as yours how can it be? pls halp

Hi Willy, As Nick states, you don't want to shake the bottle because that will create the foam inside the foam and rendering it difficult to have the foam come out of the nozzle. Also, using warm water will stimulate the soap to create that thick foam. Also, the GPM of your pressure washer is important and it needs to be strong enough to produce the foam. Check your Karcher to see if it has the required GPM or if it needs to be more powerful. Also, final tip, you may just need to add another ounce of soap or two; it never works the same for everyone and you have to experiment a bit until you find what works for you.

Everyone seems to do this differently. It seems you didn’t rinse off the soap after you foamed. I think the majority say to rinse off then wash with the two bucket system. Can you explain? Thanks!

Hi Michael, it's a waste of water, and the soap emulsifies the small dirt particles when it foams up. When you have a limited amount of time to wash, and you need to glaze, wax, or seal; you really have to move quickly. Well, as long as you hold the power washer at least a foot away from the car, you should be fine. If it's very powerful, hold it further away

thanks for letting me know how to maintain foam cannons I didn't do the whole process and now it sucks everything up so quickly then run out of time to foam my car it doesn't matter anymore because it was small and it came with my pressure washer and it sucks either way. I will maintain my knew cool one.

When I fill my cannon tube with 1 oz product, and the rest with water, using a 1800 psi electric powerwasher, I'm lucky to even coat the car before the bottle is empty. I noticed the gas powerwashers aerate the product much better and it looks like they use a LOT less product then I do.

use warm water in the foam cannon and also make sure your using soap designed foe a foam cannon. hope that helps

Jimmyqballs You're doing something wrong. I'm using a 1500 psi and it covers my car with thick foam. Try putting more soap, use warm water and check the setting on the top of the cannon. That's what I did wrong when I first got it.

Same electrical principle as V I R. You may have 1800psi with 6lpm flow with 5mtr hose. A 1800psi with 10lpm flow with 5mtr hose will remove more dirt and foam more out of the attachment. It would be like buying a mid range pressure washer with 2100psi with 8lpm 5mtr hose the "same as" 1800psi with 10lpm with 5mtr hose. But that 10lpm pressure washer with a 10mtr hose would feel like a 8lpm with a 5mtr hose. Lpm is king

Hey there! Both play a key role in the aeration of the foam to produce thick foam. Higher PSI (1800-3000)will cause more foam and the recommend GPM(2.0) will produce thicker foam.

Hey Sean! There are many different brands and models available but we recommend using a machine that is capable of at least 1.5 GPM and 1500 PSI. In the video, we are using a Sun Joe electric unit and Troy-Bilt gas unit.

Can someone tell me if when you use the pressure washer and the snow shampoo , do you need to have the water hose connected and use the water flow to put the snow shampoo on or should you have the hose disconnected and use the pressure from the machine to shoot the shampoo? 😅🤔

I wouldn't wash my car with just the snow foam...i would rinse it off then wash the car... In reality if you don't rinse it your just washing it with the dirt still on it

@@josiahkaufman393 He rinsed it first, then did the foam and then just cleaned the car, completely wrong way. The snow foam is better put on a dry car so it clings better, leave it for a few minutes then wash it off with the pressure washer. Then clean the car.

Important point on a dirty car, but that Versa had like 2 specs of dust on it at most. It’s totally fine to rinse, foam, and get right to washing with your mitt if the car isn’t that dirty...

We recommend that you fill the bottle first with warm water, than add the soap after so you can gauge how much soap you've used. Remember not to shake vigorously because that will cause bubbles to form. In most of our videos, we fill the soap container with deionized water first before the soap. Hola Gary, glad to have you aboard the Chemical Guys train. There's nothing to worry about, it's perfectly safe to foam your car's soft top. So what was the purpose of the two buckets? I wouldn’t think you would need a soap bucket since you snowed the car. I get the rinse bucket.

Psykic Chimp you foam the car and then rinse it off which gets rid of most of the dirt then you wash it with a soapy wash bucket to get the rest off with a rinse bucket too. Snow and rinse first reduces amount of dirt you’ll get in the buckets

Isn’t the soap good enough to remove a lot of the dirt if it’s just left to dwell then ringed off? Then you could do a contact wash with a lot less dirt being gathered in the mitt.

Shhhhhh. You need to buy 2 buckets and 2 grit guards. Always. Why would you just use the pressure washer and foam cannon soap as lubrication to wash your car with the mitt when you can carry 2 10 gallon buckets of water to get less soap on the car?
