Run with a buddy, or buddies. That was the biggest thing for me. When I can run a session the same length as the heat / main and still not need to marshal, I'm ready to race mentally.

The only two hurdles for me getting better is finding free time, and finding an open track. Otherwise I'd be throwing down practice laps like crazy.

Do you think you could post a video where its like a picture in picture during a race? One shot of your car on the track and the other shot of how you're hands are working the throttle and steering, timed together. I've never seen anyone do a video like that and it would really put into perspective the finesse required to be fast!

Thank you for this. I needed a reminder as its been about 10 years since I've driven an rc car/been in the hobby. Just picked up a 2020 xb4 a few weeks ago, have been practicing, and participated in a local carpet club race over the weekend, ran 4wd stock class and ended up taking home the win with a 92% consistency in the main! Along with a 92% consistency in two of the qualifiers. It was a very small class, but a great intro back into racing again!

Weird flex but noticed a Mr. Rogers vibe in this one! 😆 Quality tips, especially the last one- tire prep is key at our local 1/10 indoor dirt track...if you ever find yourself in the tristate area come on over to Crispy Critters Raceway in northern NJ. Friday nights we go club racing and you can join us in putting your tire prep skills to the test!

Lovin the vids bud. I started in carpet racing with the b6.2 about 5 months ago then got the 22x4 and started going to the track 4 months worth of practicing i finally put myself in a 4wd class. 1st qualifier placed 1st with the fastest and most laps. 2nd qualifier placed 3rd put me 5th in the main. finished 5th my 1st ever rc race and had the fastest lap of the night. So glad i chose to watch your vids on the 22x4. yea you race more clay but im the type that likes to make something work on something its not really designed or intended for. do you see yourself doing any kind of carpet racing? Thanks to guys like you making videos like this. BIG thumbs up.

Spot on with the consistency %. I’m a 40+ guy not the fastest but I get podiums because my % is say 97-98%. I’ll go conservative in spots to not crash. I’ve heard young guys who are faster complain they can’t beat me and every time that’s the case. They are in ‘send it’ mode constantly and crash and are 92%. Makes a huge difference

Hello, I’ve been following your page since Christmas. Once we started racing indoor. Now it’s nice out and the dirt tracks are opening up. Any chance you have experience with choosing or where to start with diff fluids, Center, front/rear? 4x is new to me and I understand the concept but not sure exactly what to look for when I do make a change. I'm kinda cheap, and we race backyard dirt tracks here, but my tires get filled with mud/dirt after a few races and Its hard to balance them out without a bunch of work. Its expensive for me to buy new tires/rims every time this happens, but don't know if there is a thrifty way to take care of this issue and keep racing on the good tires I like!

Something that I see a lot of people struggling on race day or qualifers is how they drive after a crash. A lot of the times after one mistake people will try to "compensate" by trying to go faster, and it mostly results in more and bigger mistakes. It's something that I have to be very careful about!

I have a ECX Torment, which is not really a torment anymore with the upgrades I've made and I have a question. Why is that people don't like or wouldn't buy a torment. so my brother and I just got back into rc we were running the team associated b4.1 worlds and sc10 factory team. Although these cars are from 2013 but well taken care of after every race so there well maintained and in brand new condition. should we consider getting update to date cars or should we continue to race our cars. and yes were still fast with these old cars and always giving a good run for the updated models cars on the track.

My closest track is Mills pond/Coral Springs, what’s your go to tires there? I currently have Holeshots 3.0 and Posi/Electrons en route from and order. As for spare parts I have a DC roller myself what are the basic spare parts you recommend? Wife doesn’t let me splurge on parts . 🤷🏻‍♂️🤙🏼🥃

Slow is fast, Consistency is key! Cant ride that edge if you keep blowing past it. Used to be my biggest issue

What pinion gears should I get for the TLR 22x-4 as a starting point? As a. starting point. I would start with the 78t spur gear and I purchased a 13.5T motor and I am not much experience driver. I am based in the UK where temps are not very high and plan to start practicing on shorter tracks. If anyone could give some advice that would be great.

Question: the motor in my 1/8 scale buggy keeps moving around and coming loose and I found out it’s because there nothing under my motor to keep it from moving, what should I use to keep the motor from moving up and down when landing

I keep having undesteering issues in my eighth scale truggy.I have tried the Ackerman plate hack(it’s a tekno),I have tried tires,Shock positions and it does improve but not enough I end up going way wide.Any tips?

It would be nice to learn a technique that would keep me from "blipping " the throttle. Especially in corners. It's upsetting the suspension. It's my biggest issue. 1/8 scale buggy and truggy electric. I've had many many practices trying to get smoother. I've switched to the hobbywing xr8 pro g2 setups because they have additional "smoothing " to the throttle curve. I still find myself blipping.

Ditch those stock grips on the bike. Your hands and arms will thank you. Appreciate the race advice.

I am building my son a 5.0 AC. Is there any way you could send me a list of what all I should get to make this spare parts kit please? We use to race moto and made it to Loretta’s. So I know having the extra parts and good equipment is huge for the confidence. We just took him RC racing for the first time this past weekend and he ended up winning his Novice class with his 2WD Slash.

I just got back into RC last year and the thing I'm struggling the most with is knowing what to look out for when thinking about setup changes. I'll split it up into two questions: 1: What tells me I need to change what exactly? example 1: I'm on high-grip astroturf, at which point is traction rolling because of the car's suspension setup and at which point is it just because the tires are providing too much grip and need to be shaved down? example 2: The track has some bumpy sections (it's an 8th scale track by nature) so there are some parts where the car can "kick up" and lose some speed down the straight. Do I adjust something on my setup so it takes it better when I have to hit it (e.g. because of multiple cars on the track) or do I just keep driving around that as much as possible? 2: How can I tell that something is because of setup or because of my driving/other circumstances? example 1: There are a few sections that use a different type of Astroturf that's not as grippy. In those, for some reason, my 2WD has more drive out the corner than my 4WD. Do I just learn to live with that? Do I try some setup changes in hopes to get more drive out the corner? example 2: There is one section where it's incredibly easy to upset the car. If I hit it just right at high speed I can save a ton of time, but over a few laps the mistakes that inevitably happen make the reward not worth the risk. I've learned how to attack it differently to get a slower but more consistent outcome, but I keep wondering if there's a way to set up the car that makes it less likely to get upset at that point, or at least predictable enough to hit that section in the faster way more consistently. I've never really tinkered with setup much, before my RC break it was incredibly grassroots (in some sections literally) at my track so setups were more like: "wheels on the car? generally pointing in the right direction? ok, looks good!" so all my experience is in driving around a shitty setup ^^

Tip #1: Don't suck!

Don't out drive the car. Drive it straight and clean, as fast as the car wants to go. If it's not fast enough to keep up, make a change. And keep doing that until you are running up front. And never underestimate the tire.

I hear lots of people mention "race program" how do you develop a race program? What is needed? Any help would be greatly appreciated
