Add a foot pedal for only $14.00 and make it super easy to use, one hand!

I bought the same splitter under another name 3-4 yrs ago on Amazon and it came with the type of push button that you push once and it is on and push again to turn it off. I have found that it is a good idea to keep one hand on the log to help guide it and also to use as your first line of defense if the log pops and a piece comes flying at you. The idea of the foot switch is great since the type of push button that mine came with doesn't come on the current splitters.

@@BAKERHUSKIE Yes sir I did. I purchased the electric log splitter for $275 on sale (reg price is about $300). Then I bought the foot pedal for about $15, and the clamp for $5. The entire process works flawlessly.

Thanks to your post, I just got back from Harbor Freight with my 5 Ton splitter. Checked it out and cut up a few pieces that my ax had just bounced off. Split them no problem. Got the two step foot pedal too. Will make a plan for a stand and get it all set up tomorrow. Getting a chord of rounds coming and now I'm ready. Thanks for your post!

Good idea! I'd just open up the switch housing and bypass the switch with a toggle switch instead. Turning the motor off and on will just shorten the life of the motor. working the splitter with two hands is for the birds.

Great idea. I have one of those 'clamps' sitting out in my shop. Any excuse to go to Harbor Freight is a good excuse - ha. I love the log splitter but this idea is a gift from heaven.

The button you have to push with one finger is called a "momentary contact" pushbutton - it makes the circuit as long as one holds it depressed. The two-step foot switch you've purchased is called a "maintained contact" device - push it once to make the circuit, and push it again to break the circuit. I'd recommend the similar device, also sold by Harbor Freight, called a "momentary contact" - the hydraulic pump motor will run as long as you keep it depressed with your foot. I disconnected the leads to the existing momentary pushbutton, and reconnected the momentary version of the foot switch. Works like a charm. Only 2 leads - can't get it wrong.

Drill two holes in the plastic that covers the switch and drop a carter pin down from the top to hold the switch in, you can lose the clamp.

Thanks boss! Going to HF to buy a foot pedal today. The two handed operation on this splitter just isn’t safe in my opinion. I’ve had wood fly off before. Luckily I wasn’t hit but now with this modification I won’t have to worry!!

How are you plugging in the splitter to the power source AND plugging it in to the foot pedal? Does the pedal plug into the power source? splitter plugged to pedal, pedal to power?

Nice man. They must have changed the design on that switch. Mine looks identical but doesnt require the power to be depressed. Just turn it on and operate the lever as needed. 2 handed operation requirement is insane. I have actually been hoping to find a foot actuated solution for the lever itself.

Cool what you did with the splitter but let me get this straight. You BUY your wood ALREADY SPLIT and you need a machine to split it more? I could make kindling out of that wood with a hatchet. He'll even a hammer would work. But smart idea with the foot pedal

So instead of using your hand on the ram lever you use your foot. 😂😂😂
@SmartOutdoors

No...He is using the ram lever. Watch closely. He hits the lever with his left hand after the electricity to the motor is engaged with the foot switch and the ram then moves forward. The foot switch is used to allow electricity to the motor so he can clamp the motor start button down and not have to use a second hand. The ram does not move until the lever is pushed down.

It's a great concept. But provide it with wiring and a footswitch that supplies the current that this little beast demands. SMH 😮
