I'm so glad someone finally addressed the tracing taboo. It's always been so dumb to me as a lot of artists started out tracing or referencing things that they liked, but just because children started to make traced animation memes or deviantart OCs it suddenly became this huge taboo thing to do. That really sucks because it hindered a lot of people who WOULD credit what they traced or that traced for practice.

I draw every single day and it's the first thing I do before I get out of bed and throughout the day when I have free time. I have made a lot of progress in the past few months but still struggle with some fundamentals like drawing different views, poses, lighting, and shadows. I wish I could make good art like you.

Well instead of wishing. Watch videos on the fundamentals. You understand the structure of making a drawing. Now you just gotta learn the structure or form and perspective. Learning about that is your next step.

My tip: Study NSFW artists if you're comfortable with it (let's be real most people here are lol) I found I improved really quickly with them, because their anatomy and technical skills are just excellent. I mean they gotta be if you wanna make that sauce :)

Thing is when I traced manga art by Tito Kubo,Yusuke Murata and Boichi I felt like I understood why they drew they ways they drew.My brain was turned off and before I knew it my brain embraced what I liked from their art and my artblock was gone.Point is watch videos of artists you like drawing and trace their drawings

I've pretty much taught myself how to draw. I used the copy technique, which is drawing without tracing. I'd take an image and draw it as accurately as I could. Never thought to actually trace as a method to improve though. Funnily, my jack of trades is 'anything that works for me' lol Even if its as cheap as a 2B pencil. I enjoy using the mechanical pencil. Never need to sharpen it lol

@@tatssutona I might do that again too, just to see how well I do. I'd like to try out the tracing over the bodies to learn anatomy. Never thought to try that :3
