At least when shopping Walmart you can actually feel how terrible the products are, while with Amazon you just hope they're decent until arrival.

Walmart if they have backing from Amazons rivals for the simple fact that Amazon decimates local economies and causes huge job losses. Shelf stackers and physical buildings need to be in the economy otherwise your town is abandoned buildings and welfare populous
@Mario-zt4lq
@Mario-zt4lq 4 жыл бұрын
Amazon definitely has the movers advantage, but with every factor you listed about Walmart and their amount of Capital, Physical locations, 2.2M employees, and the amount of allies they’ve gained from Amazon creating enemies, they can catch up pretty damn quick on the e-commerce side of the market that just keeps growing. If Wal Mart turns some of their 11,000 stores into fulfillment centers and adds 250,000 delivery drivers primarily focused on delivering groceries to customers’ houses within 30min - 1 hr, I think that’s can catapult them head or at least hugely eat away at Amazon’s lead over them.. Amazon better stay sharp, now is not the time to start getting fat on their profits, as long as they’ve held off on rewarding themselves, they knew who they were competing with when they got into this game and they better keep that respect, which I’m sure they will.. very excited to see how this unfolds

As a former Wal-Mart employee and current Amazon employee I can let you in on something. Just put on your resume that you are a former Wal-Mart employee and that alone gets you into an Amazon fulfillment center. Half of our crew are former Wal-Mart employees at my fulfillment center alone. Wal-Mart over the years treated their employees like dog shit, and while Amazon will ride you hard they pay tops in the industry and have numerous of programs to help you. So many of those 650k employees at Amazon are quite familiar with the inner workings of Wal-Mart. Just at my facility alone I know a couple former store assistants.

I've been saying for quite some time that if Wal-Mart begins using their physical stores as partial fulfillment centers and pairs that with some kind of Uber-like delivery system, they would crush Amazon because Amazon's profit margins on their products are not sustainably priced (as you pointed out, they rely heavily on AWS).

I think it will end in a stalemate. Why? Because each one is attempting to become the other. Both excel in one area and both struggle in an area in which their competitor excels. Concisely, as Shawn Michaels said to Diesel back in the day, they are best friends, but even better enemies. With heavy hitters backing Walmart for what seems to be "the lesser of two evils" reasoning, this is remarkably similar to the Bluray vs HD DVD format war that took place about 15 years ago. Sony was the main proponent of Bluray while Toshiba pushed HD DVD. It was a pretty even race for dominance until certain studios grew tired of them splitting the customer base. So a few heavy hitters (Disney, Warner Bros) decided to side with Bluray simply to guarantee a winner and end said war. However, it was a pyrrhic victory for Bluray as it never caught on as DVD did and streaming has become the format of choice for consumers. Great video and topic. Mr. Nobody from home office.

It seems most new videos are bundled together as Blu-Ray and DVD combos, and sold as a premium package now. Coke and Pepsi dominate the soft drink industry, but you are a major player if you can garner even 2% of the market share against these two giants. But Walmart is still limited by its selection, and you have to give them the volume discounts that they want in order to sell your product through them. And not all manufacturers are capable of doing that. They also have a lot of shrinkage through theft in all of their stores, which affects their bottom line and profitability. But in the long run, Amazon and Walmart will be like the Democrats and Republicans, catering to the public for the almighty votes and Dollars.
