I definitely have plans on making a few videos about expanding the bases - though I'm currently working on a Solo Bunker base video that uses its own unique core footprint. Next base video after that will probably a Bread Loaf expansion since a lot of people have asked for it tho :)

I find it strange that no1 builds hexagonal prismatic honeycomb or Truncated hexagonal prismatic honeycomb base blueprints. They are absolute pain in ass to raid as there is more walls than usual as you use 0 squares. Not to mention they are a guessing game and in one setup you can make 3 bunkers pretty much if you want.

I was experimenting with a hexagonal starter for this video and I found that it was just kind of cumbersome to build and expand off of it due to the fact that everything's triangles. If expanding with squares, then it just got to big imo. I'm not denying the fact that its a pain in the ass to raid because of the walls, but living in it (at least for me, in a duo/trio context, medium sized base) is just not ideal. For a solo though, I can see it being decent but I didn't really play around with it much.

I just happened to build the base on the thumbnail on Fortify. I was originally gonna use it for something else, a inclosed ladder tower. But it's quite a simple design that many can make by themselfs tho

What's the point of the vending machine plugs? If you're already replacing the outer doorframe with a wall, why not use the space for boxes or something? I'm a noob so I'm missing the point probably lol

I honestly just do that to have a little extra storage while still using that plugged doorframe as a bit of honey comb. You could definitely use that area to fit a few boxes though!

Whats the purpose of the half-height triangle floor frame around the tc?

I put it so that it makes it harder for raiders to grab your TC loot. If it wasn't there, they could just softside the lootroom shelf and then grab the TC loot. But because it is there, even if they softside the shelf, they still can't get to it. It also allows you to build the lootroom shelf itself without having to make a twig support from the outside.

So do I have to use the door plug method or is it that way because you'll have some sort of hopup or stairs that go up above your honeycomb then back down into your core? I'm assuming that means more walls and more doors to go through? I'm new to building I haven't been on rust since early 2018ish and I'm still doing basic 3by3 starters and such then mixing it up as I expand.

Its really up to you. You could not plug the doorway and just use the starting airlock to continue expanding the base. I would seal the outer doorway with a vending machine so that it can act as honeycomb and then I would expand upwards. Hope that kinda makes sense. If not, lmk and ill try to explain it better 👍

I put it so that it makes it harder for raiders to loot your TC loot. If it wasn't there, raiders could just softside the lootroom shelf and get into the TC triangle, whereas with the half height floor frame, even if they softside it, they still can't access the loot bag. Also, it lets you build the loot room shelf off of it.

what is the upkeep on the duo base?

For the duo base, it's 388 metal, 631 stone, and 25 wood - though that's with metalling up the TC and main loot room. If you keep it all stone, it's 208 metal, 901 stone, 25 wood.
