This testimony is refreshing to say the least. You are an picture perfect example of what good immigration is: chosen, bringing your own experience of life all-the-while being mindful of the local culture. I'm glad you're enjoying France and feeling at home here. I wish you all the best!

I'm not French but I do live in France for more than 30y. What I like about France is that you can go and walk almost everywhere. In the US I really got annoyed by the always present "No trespassing" signs. For me being able to roam freely is a very central part of what I consider as "freedom".

That's what bugs me when I watch US vlogs. Can't walk where you want, can't do what you want and it seems the favorite occupation of the people is to call the cops. In France you really need to do some crazy s**t to have the cops called on you.

Regarding administrative procedures, internet and digital procedures made such a difference. The main issue with administration in France are opening hours. When you work, a few years ago you had to take days off to take care of administrative procedures.

I think you are right right with what you say. Its always a challenge to get things right in a foreign country with all the pitfalls involved. Now France is an European Country but compared to lets say the Netherlands pretty tough to fight the language barrier if you don’t speak french on a very decent level. That is the „No“ I hear when asking young french if they speak english (what they certainly do on a basic level for sure). But thats what you have to take to live in a nice countryside in France😄

Not all the french people express their opinion or feelings so easily (/ frankly). The elder didn't since it was considered as unpolite. The experience of life makes you understand there're sensitive persons and you are not offend them... the fine France of 60s / 70s is being demolished. Less and less good habits survive.

Regarding news: I don´t think it has something to do with the size. One can think of the EU to be united states - this way the news could focus on EU wide news only, but they don´t. And "news of the word" .. I think the world has same size for France and the US.

Wait until you expect or raise kids, grow older to find a doctor, needs to find a real job…seek for protection against new Europeans…on and on… The food you eat is polluted like never before. France is the world leader in terms of pesticides scattered in the fields, polluting the waters as well like never before… This country is heading towards a third world country… Good luck to you… Born and raised in Paris I am… Survived nearly 6 years in the USA, but in the 90´s…

French, 64 years old, living in a middle town in a rural region of the east of France. I'm glad to live in an area with good local products, lots of small farms. I'm not worried at all by the lack of medical care, by the situation of my 4 kids as they are doing the job they wanted, some good jobs some less but it was their choice to choose a better quality of work and daily life than a big salary ! Experiences? Here is one, as a french. I came back to be a student at age 29. So, i told the CAF "my status changes. I am now a student." "OK" they said. Fast forward 3 years. I go back to the CAF to tell them "hello. I am not a student anymore". "What, were you a student? Prove it first. If you can't, you will remain a student for us" they told me. "Wut?" i said. How nonsensical. Do you see where the true fun starts? To end my student status, i had to prove that i was a student in the first place, despite them not asking anything when i first told them "i am now a student". They wanted me to dive into the legal documentation and status of the school to prove by law that this particular school indeed provided a legit student status. Because their software required something, anything, to check a box. Showing them my very legit "student card" wasn't enough. "f**** off" i thought. So... I went to the CAF 13 times over the span of 6 months in order to solve this. The first 12 times, i was rather polite. And then, the 13th time, i was not so much anymore. I made a scandal, screaming that if i had to come back a 14th time, i would then rent a car specifically to come and park it inside their hall... And at this point, the problem was solved within a minute. The frigging box almost checked itself alone. Have fun... This is France.

French. Ayer is not polluted ! Some rivers can show trace of pollution but tap water is totally safe. … French must not drink bottle water. Bottle water is « mineral water » , water with special effects because of the minerals contained in these spring waters. ( for example magnesium) this is natural and French like this kind of healthy water. But we mostly use tap water. We do not have this horrible « drinking water » in gallon, it is far better to have tap water. I do not know where you get this information about water pollution but it is totally wrong.
