Very interesting video! My dad finished his PhD at Durham 2 decades, and I did a graduate study at LSE a few years ago. The changes mentioned in this video very much represent what me and my dad observe throughout the years.

Work from home is depends job nature. I am working from home and sometimes go to office if necessary. This is great to me and really higher productivity because of flexible working hours. However, the team must group together from time to time. Face to Face meeting is important to build up team work and better relationship.

I have been WFH in last 2+ years now and I think the productivity comes in different shapes and forms and it's heavily depending on your role. - If your role is more independent then your productivity may goes up because you could be more focus with less interruptions if you have the right setup at home. - If your role needs you to interact more with your colleagues, then your productivity may be the same or slightly lower since you will be hopping between MS Team or Zoom meetings and some people still find online meetings not as effective as face-to-face meetings. - If you role is in-between above two, what I found out is for many the increased productivity comes as the result of actually working longer hours at home. Example, I used to never have meetings started before 8AM because most people are still in commute at that hour, but I have many meetings started as early as 7AM now because people knows it's okay to set up video meetings that early because people are not in commute. Great video as always. 👍🏻

Where BAME is used in the UK, the term BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and people of colo[u]r) is now used in the US. Meanwhile, Canadians twist that term a bit and make it IBPOC.

Really enjoyed wfh. I think wfh is more productive. Also I think more people work longer hours when they work at home. Plus, it also helps many of us to save money on travelling or to avoid buying expensive lunches near the office. More importantly, wfh means it reduces the chance to catch the COVID, even though it seems the world has accepted the fact that we've to live with COVID...

(確實work from home係一個趨勢,但視乎work from home係唔係能夠可比公司有更大利潤收入,等員工爭取薪金都係靠skill) Work from home could be a trends of fashion but as long as having sustainable income is really important than I just thought. Everyone should have fair salary and benefits together if working in UK in such friendly environment.

Thanks, it is an interesting study of trends !. I think the reason WFH is welcomed by both employee and employer is that it kind of blurred the line btw office (work)and home(life), that people are actually putting more effort into the job and substantial discussion than before thus increasing the productivity. and the KZfaqr trend is definitely one of the results of the young generation's desire for Self-expression

No doubt that there are multiple advantages to work from home: (1) No need to dress up (2) No need to commute (3) I could do some housework in between as part of the “break time”, getting my brain away from work for even 15 mins helps. But once you become an employer or managers, what you find is that, it becomes incredibly difficult to manage the team effectively. That is the drawback.

I have to say that the decline in church attendance, apathy in taking part in politics such as General and Local Elections, the popularity in "reality TVs", and the decline in the quality in British news reporting are the changes that I find apprehensive. Plus the increasing influences of Chinese, Russian and Saudi oligarchs in British democracy after the 2016 EU Referendum and 2019 General Election have given me sleepless nights.

I work in the academics, I found I have all my reference set up in my office, either in my computer or on the bookshelf. I still have to check our my departmental mail box once a week at the veryl least. I found working in my office is much more efficient than working from home. though lecturing from home provide an enormous convenience.

Hi! This is an amazing video which showed us how UK has been changing, or, more optimistically, improving over the last decade. However, I have a question about the BAME population as I am an international student: does student visa holders count towards UK population? I could not find the definition of who counts towards the population, and, although there might be more and more international students in the future, but most of them might just go back to their country. Thank you to anyone who knows the answer and looking forward to the reply!

I live in Brisbane and work in the Australian public service. The rest of my team is either in Canberra or other Australian capital cities and I communicate with them through Teams. Despite this, I'm still required to go to the office 3 days a week. I'm more productive at home because there are fewer distractions and less prep and commute time. The only explanation I can give for this requirement is maybe the bureaucrats just want to make sure people are definitely wearing pants 3 days a week.

A lot of things have been changed since the pandemic. The way how people contact with each other, the way people share their values and informations. Working from home is just obvious, a lot of jobs can be done in home-office, more efficient way and it saves time and fuel. If people do share common space, working in an office, some of the guys are just watching you by sitting there. And maybe pass your personal informations(your habits, the way you dressed up, your family situation, your kids) around the circle. And when you are in public space, some strangers are just getting your private information, that would be awkward. I think that would be the main reason, why people would prefer to stay at home rather than appear in public space, even not walking on the street. It’s just people are scared of others manipulate or dominant their own lives. All the statistic figure you have shared it’s just the opposite trend from the mainland Europe. I would suppose the construction worker indeed are decreasing in England and Wales, but here it is a huge increasing. They are very mobile and can work at any countries.
