Question: I am considering chaplaincy with either the Air Force or the army. One thing that really excited me about the army was unit ministry, or ministry of presence. Can you share how the Air Force is with chaplains being out with their people on a regular basis? I don't want to sit in an office or a chapel and wait for people who need help to come to me. I want to be with the people in the field!

I am changing my life at 34 and are comming into the Air Force as a chaplain assistant! I love God with all of my heart and serving him is and always my first! My goal is to be a chaplain! I serve my community and those everywhere I go even in the medical field where I’ve been employed for almost 15 years! Can I ask what duties I would be doing as a chaplain assistant ❤️❤️💕❤️❤️🙏💕❤️

First, you are awesome. I loved seeing all of your comments! A chaplain assistant has a different job than a chaplain even though they work in the chapel. An assistant is like the backbone of the chapel but they do not perform services.

You can love others as you love yourself, you can only love others as much as you love yourself. Jesus esteemed us higher then Himself (on the cross) but loves us as much as He loves Himself (John 15:9) Great video, I was in the military and now a pastor and comparing to missionary is a good way of putting it! Wahaha Chao Great question! I hav met many chaplains that went straight active duty from coming off the street. Any branch will have a certain amount of chaplains they will put on active. Some of those spots are taken by reservist going active. There’s no certain answer but I don’t think the chances should stop you!

I can't rap my hands around the idea love more than myself, but I believe I can make some sacrifices for others according to my capacity and purpose, great ministry chaplain I recognize, while serving in any area incidentally your very life can be a sacrifice and you will be replaced, but you need to be fit to serve any casualty less you will do more damage than heal and help the person or persons that you are attending to.

I have a feeling, that my ministry was to be a chaplain. circumstances in life..i guess God closed that door. I would like to graduate from university n set up a Christian ministry. i'm proud army veteran that enlisted. I was assigned as chemical operations specialist, where I decontaminated bio/chemical weapons. doing that has cause my horrible diabetes. i'm 43 in april now, am very mentally n physically ill. I regret some decisions in life. mom n I did not have monies fer me to go university to rotc so I enlisted. I should have enlisted navy fer few years, would have avoided the chem. weapons exposure, might have had satisfactory navy career n life. I am repenting how my life was last 20 years as well when I got honorably discharged fer medical reasons...I regret highly many things in my life. God had good plans fer me n I messed things up. I have so many questions. My first being, as far as I am informed you need some type certification from a church (seminary) school to become a Chaplain. I am a Roman Catholic, so I heard to become a Army Chaplain for Catholicism you must be an ordained Priest. But as in 1 Corinthians 7:2 I am almost certain I could not live a life without marriage. I am aware that Protestant Priest can marry. Even though I am a Roman Catholic, may I become a Army Chaplain as a Protestant Priest.
@ServiceBeforeSelf
@ServiceBeforeSelf 4 жыл бұрын
Most of the time you have to have the same theology as the endorsement you represent. I believe there are denominations that are close to Catholicism that you could look into. You are correct, unfortunately if you would like to be a Catholic chaplain you must become a Priest first. I am not familiar with being a protestant priest but that may be a great option for you!

Great Video and awesome topic with direction to know if one is called to be a Chaplain. How does it differ in being a women Chaplain than your male chaplains? Also, How do you feel as a Christian Women being in a leadership role in a “Mega Church”? Do you try to counsel more women specifically or anyone who comes in your door? Do you Counsel Men alone, How do you react if they become fresh with you? Do you end the conversation, what do you do to change the topic?
@ServiceBeforeSelf
@ServiceBeforeSelf 5 жыл бұрын
Maybe I could make a video to answer all fo the questions! As the military continues on, more and more women are in leadership and commanding roles. I think the stigma of men not being comfortable with women is beginning to reduce. I have found in my own experience that if a man doesn't want to be around a female chaplain, they will just not. But that is extremely rare. To answer your other questions, I first trust that Christ has equipped me. Knowing there may be trials and difficulties along the way, like a gender issue.

Seth, that would be a question for a recruiter. I do not believe to be a Chaplain Assistant you need any prior education. For Chaplaincy: the big thing is that your MDIV or equivalent must meet/exceed 72 hours and be from an accredited school. You can check your school's accreditation through their website or offices. They have to let you know.

Hi Amelia, I’m anticipating my appointment to be a chaplain candidate (I just received my endorsement... yay). How would you say aspects of working within a pluralistic religious environment factor into requirements asked of chaplains, and into the characteristics necessary for success in military chaplaincy? How has this been in your experience so far? Are you able to pray in Jesus’ name? These have been some concerns I’ve contemplated based on my current level of research and limited conversations with senior chaplains.
@ServiceBeforeSelf
@ServiceBeforeSelf 6 жыл бұрын
Whitney, that so great you have an endorsement. I do not find working in that environment as stressful or bothersome as it was made out to be. Any kind of prayer in a larger setting you want to be a little more cautious. In a smaller setting like a retirement ceremony by the permission of the individual, praying in Jesus' name is allowed. AF does look heavily at if you can work well with others from other religions. Your chapel team wont be all from your same faith but you still need to be able to work well with them all. You don't have to agree to have a successful team. I find it helpful to stick with the goal of caring for the Airmen. If I invest my time in that, then I am less concerned about everything else.

I am currently in the Civil Air Patrol. I have always wanted to serve God, and serve the United States of America. I want to become a chaplain. What degree would you suggest getting, and what is the best way to commission in the Air Force as a chaplain? Also, is it possible to be a non-denominational chaplain? Thank you!
@ServiceBeforeSelf
@ServiceBeforeSelf 5 жыл бұрын
Michael, a Master's of Divinity or theologically similar degree is required. To commission straight into chaplaincy then you also need 2 years post-graduate of pastoral experience for active duty. I think there are actually a few different endorsements that are non-denominational!

I am a deacon in a rare (but ancient) religion called Gnosticism. Although we are Christians, our interpretation of the Scriptures are very different from many Abrahamic religions. Could the U.S. military find a place for a Gnostic?
@ServiceBeforeSelf
@ServiceBeforeSelf 5 жыл бұрын
To be a chaplain, you must have a religious endorsing body. The DoD on their website has a list of these endorsements. If your faith is represented in a current endorsement then there is acceptance into the military. I'm not exactly sure what to do if there is not aside from looking at staring an endorsement or finding an established endorsement that is close to your beliefs.

Sandra, I think it is really cool that you are open to researching about chaplaincy. I really hope that you are able to have some questions answered that way. There are many different religions within chaplaincy but at the heart of it, a chaplain has a spiritual foundation. I would encourage you to explore that spiritual foundation for yourself. I can only speak from mine, Christianity, so in my life I would search to Christ for clarity. I hope that can help some. @@sandramoore3790 Many ministers can be called to serve before they become Christians. For example, Paul in the Bible was called by God to preach about Christ before he received salvation. I think ultimately the answer you are seeking can only be found in Christ. Can I be an atheist Chaplain? What about recruits who aren't Christians? Too bad for them, right?
@ServiceBeforeSelf
@ServiceBeforeSelf 5 жыл бұрын
Currently there are no Atheist Chaplains... but you never know what the future holds. So a chaplain's job no matter their religion, is to preform or provide. That means that even if I cannot preform a service because it is not my faith, then I will find somebody that can (provide). That way all military members are able to practice their religious beliefs.
