worm gear in reality is the best option among these. you can infinitely scale it, doesnt take much space and with some torque multiplier can still lift a plenty of weight.

Nice to see another longer form video, especially for a component as useful as these. The only thing which annoys me is how the worm driven examples may be ruined by continuous drive shifting the parts around, thankfully it should be easy enough to get around by using wider parts and then using axle connectors for better bracing. A couple of the mechanisms surprised me in testing, and I really hope we get more videos this length and quality in future, keep it up!

Sarrus is basically just sliding axle, but the axle is the center, and the structural and mechanical functions of the axle are utilized around the circumference of this center point. The scissor lift is a modified and improved design of sarrus. The number of fulcrum is increased, allowing the load to be dispersed. The screw lift should be the sturdiness design, but it is limited to height, unless the screw were made very long. I'd like to see some different designs with pulleys

The worm gears connect perfectly so you should be able to just scale the size by adding more worm gears

4 bar Horst link is a good one. It raises the load through a complex arc which has a net result of nearly perfectly vertical travel if done right. Very common in MTB suspension because it has that vertical effect.

You know with some modifications that third design could work for some of the body joint areas of the custom Zoid I'm prototyping with Legos. Since I lack a 3D printer.

Snail drive scares me, because I expect the bushing to fail and the pole to just slam down through and drop the platform.

Add a second parallelogram to the first with a static gear to drive it will be a for bar lift go twice as high

1:40 unless it's restricted to a short range of angles, this type of linkage is usually inferior to a simple cam.

It's a bit more compact when you use that kind of mechanism in a bigger scale, but yeah, a cam would be better in this case

hm, very nice and all, but these only work in 1 direction, you have to manually switch directions to let it go down again (you can't let a standard motor run it on a loop going up and down without a human controller or lego computer nxt/mindstorms/...)

Maybe you show a way how to get a longitudinal shift in as few steps as possible (for example step size of 0.1 mm or 0.01mm). Application: Camera slider for the so-called focus stacking).

That's pretty hard, since the tolerance of Lego parts is probably around .5 mm

Bonjour, déjà merci pour tes tutos très enrichissants. J'aimerais savoir si ton système (big version) peut s'adapter dans un profil similaire à une tourelle de tank, rendant également la partie supérieure rotative ? Non pas que je veuille faire un tank mais j'envisage de faire un véhicule adapté pour tout type de terrain pouvant me permettre de filmé quasiment à hauteur de véhicule ou un peu plus haut si les besoins de tournage le nécessite. Et franchement c’est génial parce que habituellement le mécanisme faisait que le véhicule allait trop vite et du coup la foire et tout. Mais je te remercie. Du coup je vais tester.

FWIW, I find seeing the build first, and then the final contraption, more engaging-I find myself guessing at what you’re building or how it will turn out, and trying to out-think how you’re going to solve “obvious problems” with the designs. Also, this makes the flow natural (you can’t have a thing to demo until you build it), which definitely appeals to my learning. So I prefer the current presentation. I can always rewind after I see the finished product if I’m having trouble connecting that to the build. I think chapter markers for the demo, as well as the build, would be helpful for everyone, however.

Yeah, noticed that too after editing... Without the music the video is very very boring since the only thing you hear is Lego clicking silently, but using the same music for a 9-Minute video is ofc not better

@@in1 I’ve seen some videos where the music is basically just there so that it’s not silent, and what they do is turn it way down. Like, I’m this context, low enough that you’d still hear the clicking of Lego assembly over it. I’m not sure it’s better-I often find myself halfway through a video before I realize the music is in the video, not somewhere around me in meatspace, and then I’m trying to make it out because it sounds vaguely familiar but it’s too soft to tell. But still, it might be worth trying.
