I agreed with all of those except the not spraying on the neck. It's the BEST place to spray for your fragrance to project and last on skin. Yes, olfactory fatigue sets in, but if you want to smell your fragrance yourself, you can always spray your hands/wrists as well. I normally spray a couple on the neck and a couple on my shirt (this is all fragrance dependent. You may go more or less depending on the consistency of the scent). For me, spraying on the clothes is the most essential element in making a scent last. It'll be there long after it stops performing on skin and after you think it's gone. Another tip you missed is actually probably the most critical: Hydration. There's no such thing as a person that has "dry skin". Those people are usually just folks that under-hydrate. Drink lots of water is good for your overall health (flushes out toxins, good for digestion, etc) but it is MAGNIFICENT for your skin. It helps fight acne, makes you look younger and most important for fragrance, keeps it moist on supple and fragrance sticks to it naturally. Drink more water, people. It's what you're made of!

Live in ny during the winter and see if you get dry skin. All I drink is water and only water. I don't trust drinks these days and soda kills you so I drink only water with some fruit in it if I want flavor but I still get dry skin in winter.

No. There very definitely ARE people with dry skin and I’m one of them. Doesn’t matter how much water I drink, how well I hydrate my skin, how barely warm my bath water is, or how well I eat. Myself, my mother and one of my brothers all have dry skin and we always have. Not everyone has the same skin chemistry. Some people have eczema. Some have psoriasis and some are just dry, flaky hot messes. Just like some people have oily skin. Skin chemistry is different for everyone.
@coffee_snob Жыл бұрын
Why would you spray on your neck and dry out your skin. It ages your neck faster, and the neck has the most sensitive skin after the eyes. I agree with everything else you said, adding that applying moisturizer diligently is as important as drinking water. 😊
@Juniorverse7 жыл бұрын
The BEST way to make your fragrance last longer is to not buy it in the first place. Greedy corporations have watered down todays perfumes to the point of absurdity. One spray from a 1995 bottle of Dior Fahrenheit would literally fill an entire room. Literally. It didn't become a "skin scent" until you showered it off. Today, you're lucky if you can smell a scent 2 -3 hours after applying it. And that's on a good day, in perfect conditions. I see these videos of people gleefully declaring a scent "lasts 2-4 hours then becomes a skin scent for another 4 hours" which is laughable. The whole point of a perfume is for others to smell it. If no one can smell it around you, being a skin scent for 4 hours is pointless. Find a vintage bottle of whatever perfume and you will see just how long a perfume can really last and you will realize just how watered down current formulations are. Remember, the weaker the juice = more sprays = empty bottle faster = more $ale$.

I get olfactory fatigue very quickly if I spray on my neck, and I wash my hands so often that spraying on my wrist doesn't work that well either. I have discovered that fragrance last much longer and don't trigger olfactory fatigue if I spray it on the inside of my elbows. Fragrances that last 2 hours on my wrist can last for 6 hours on the inside of my elbows. That's a remarkable difference.

Petroleum jelly aka Vaseline is the absolute best thing I've ever used to make my fragrance last longer. Lotion is ok, but inferior as it just absorbs into your skin too quickly. Petroleum jelly just sits on top of your skin and keeps the fragrance projecting nicely for hours.

This is good stuff.The spraying in your hair thing is great advice. Also do not apply cologne right after you shower. Allow at least one hour before you apply your cologne. This will enable your natural body oils to rise to the surface of your skin. The cologne will blend with the natural oils and last at least twice as long. I discovered that if I shower in the evening and apply cologne the next morning, even the weakest scents last hours longer. Try it, it works.

Thanks Steven appreciate your tips but I think that designers are purposely making perfumes that dont last to increase sales and ensure more get sold, fragrances 10 years ago never had the issues we are seeing with them today and excuses such as bad skin chemistry and needing to moisturise are spin and nothing more, its the quality of the juice or lack of that is causing longevity and performance issues.
@JoeSCENTMe7 жыл бұрын
1987198719871 I can understand your point but I don't really think that fragrance companies are that sinister. It really boils down to knowing your concentration and spraying in places that don't cause olfactory fatigue. Another great tip that Steven hasn't mentioned is that when you're using a fragrance that lets say comes with an after shave gel, a lotion and a body wash all from the same set, use them instead of other things so that you don't mix the scent of one thing with another. It helps reinforce the fragrance with all sorts of layers of goodness.
@19871987198717 жыл бұрын
JoeSCENTMe I totally agree, i use prada luna rossa sport shower gel when i wear the cologne and this defiantly helps however in terms of whether fragrance companies are sinister...yes I would say they are greedy 100% this is also where I get annoyed when certain reviewer's recommend carrying atomisers around... I never needed to when I first bought PR 1 Million in 08/09 because it was formulated to perform for a acceptable amount of time, I got loads of compliments again because the ingrediants used were much better than are used now and it projected a very good amount, if I didnt want to offend anyone I would only need to use a half spray on my skin and it was an EDT concentration... you never had Edps and extract de parfums like you do now because again its just spin so people pay more.
@JoeSCENTMe7 жыл бұрын
1987198719871 I tend to always gravitate to the EDP's anyway. 😂I can see what you mean by the greed thing. I try not to think of it that way so that I can appreciate more the story, the history, the noses and the philosophies behind the scent more.
@19871987198717 жыл бұрын
JoeSCENTMe I totally respect that and also appreciate the history and the nostalgia that fragrances give you but we differ in what we want from our fragrances... for me i want a room filler that lasts 6-9 hours just like they used too and I wont be fobbed of by reviewers saying its because I dont moisturize or have bad skin chemistry because its justifying designers releasing rubbish on the market and expecting us to accept it while they are taking our hard earned cash. Sorry for the strong opinions but thats how it is as I see it and for me its ruined my enjoyment of the hobbie.
@JoeSCENTMe7 жыл бұрын
1987198719871 I understand your frustration and jadedness toward this industry and respect that. If you want your faith to be restored, check out some indie niche houses like the House of Matriarch and Giovanna Antonelli perfumes. You'll appreciate the craft more than despising the business model. There's a bunch of really cool niche houses that make wonderful fragrances that last a long time and yes they cost some money but well worth it.

Buy an unscented mineral oil and apply it with a QTip apply the fragrance . It will last all night because oil dose not evaporate. When you need to refresh the scent excuse your self to the men's room and apply warm water to the areas where you applied your fragrance , the warm water will open the pours of your skin and let out some more scent.

Spraying on your hair is a good trick. My grandmother used to do that and it definitely did the trick. But I do feel that perfumes back then were stronger and were made to last longer on you. Perfumes nowadays have lower resilience after you sprayed them, but then again a lot of them are more affordable now.

A lot of great things I didn't know, so thank you for that. One concern I have with spraying clothing (besides the obvious potential of staining) is that when you go back to wear that article of clothing again and it still smells like the last thing you sprayed on, but you want to wear a different fragrance. I use a lot of good stuff and even though I don't spray my shirts, I can still smell my shirts just from making contact with my skin. The the main reason I stayed away from spraying shirts.

To Digress: Paleeze do not vape. You are being experimented on. No one knows the long term consequences! Do not allow yourself to be a lab rat. I have a friend who experienced a huge episode of schizophrenia after vaping heavily for a year. The doctors ordered him to stop. OKAY on to my comment: drinking water, exfoliating the skin, AND cycling through DHA/Omega 3 oils, Borage, Evening Primrose actually improve hormonal balance and helps retain moisture in the skin. Try it! But realize you must be consistent. A noticeable glow to the eyes, skin, hair, nails and fragrance lasts longer!

Scent free is critical so as not to interfere, change, or conflict with the performance of your fragrance choice. It sounds to me like the concepts of moisturizing and priming with molecule 1 are approaching the concept of layering. Layering has been mentioned in various comment threads, but I don't recall a specific Redolessence video on it. I never spray my clothes, to me, fragrance is for the skin, which should evolve throughtout the day from note to note - the same does not occur when sprayed on clothes, at least not to the same effect. Depending on fragrance, I usually do 3 sprays MAX. One to the wrist (press the other wrist onto it) then dab behind ears and side of neck with wrists. Then spray to the chest, the heat from being covered with clothing helps project it further. Finally one spray at the back of the neck for a nice trail when walking/sillage.

I can't even tell you how it has changed my life. I've tried different lotions and even Vaseline, and the Nivea gives me the best results. I highly suggest Nivea lotion on the back of your neck and wrists, at the very least. I really think the Nivea brand is on to something here.

You can't even trust Edp markings anymore. Some of the less... serious brands, like D&G will put Edp on their bottles but the content fades almost instantly or becomes a skinscent. I read alot of reviews on D&G The One Edp for example.. very bad quality.. yet marked Edp. Gucci Absolute is also Edp, tried and tested - vanished after a 2 hours. Having a lasting fragrance is about knowing which one is quality, and use it. Dior Homme Intense/Dior Homme Parfum. Bleu de chanel Edp. Raghba wood intense. Thierry Mugler - Pure Malt / Angel Men / Tobacco .. Bvlgari Men in Black. Gucci Pour Homme I. Bentley Intense. Those are my go-to when it comes to quality and assured lasting. I don't own any scents from Naso Matto, but im' sure they're quality as well. It doesn't matter how much you spray or where you spray or how much you lotion before you spray.. poor quality fragrances will never last like a good quality fragrance.

As far as I know, "Eau de parfum" refers to the ratio of oil to alcohol in the bottle. Some types of oil/notes last longer than others, so it's not set in stone that an EDP has to last longer than EDT and EDC

Ultimately you need to consider the quality of the fragrance you're wearing. A good/great quality fragrance's longevity will be improved by some of these tips (although neck spraying is something I would always advise of doing personally), but a weak fragrance is a weak fragrance is a weak fragrance. One of the weakest ones in my collection, Estée Lauder Pleasures For Him, will last about an hour or two tops no matter how I apply it. Sometimes it just comes down to the fragrance DNA. You are almost always better off buying an EDP concentration if it's available. Otherwise I'd recommend buying samples on eBay before committing to a full bottle to see how that fragrance lasts on you. Body chemistry is another big factor with fragrance performance.

I hear spraying on clothes last longer but being careful you don't over spray. If you over spray? Women and are gonna let you know about it and you're not gonna like it. Back of your neck is a good place to spray. I spray behind my ears. Be careful you don't spray too close to your clothes.

Just a quick question even though I'm like a year late. The last tip is to not spray on the neck area right? Because of the fatigue thingy that happens? As Steven suggests, make sure its a non scented or minimally so as to not clash with your fragrance. As far as tip 1 and 5, i feel like its good info but doesn't match up with the title. Sure x fragrance may last longer then y fragrance but knowing that doesn't help you get more mileage out of fragrance x or y. Tip 5, in the same way, knowing olfactory fatigue sets in quicker towards the neck vs extremities doesn't make the fragrance last longer either. Always putting out top content Steven, keep it up!

Hi Steven. Whenever I buy perfumes, I try to get the set. Specially if it includes the deodorant and the after shave cream. Weird.....they usually cost the same or even less than the actual perfume bottle, but people tend to buy just the bottle. The point is, you apply the scented after shave first, and then apply the perfume in the same spot. And of course, the deodorant if you have it. The other thing I santo to mention is, people talk about heat spots. But in my experience, that may or may not work properly. What works all the time, is to apply where are more skin pores and hair. For example, and as you mentioned, the top of the hand (where skin pores are bigger and some have hair), make the scent last way longer than the wrist. A lot longer actually. Cheers Steven!

Fantastic tips. I have a big problem with fragrances' longevity. The olfactory fatigue neck thing makes great sense. Thank you!

Dave at Mountain Aromatics gave me a tip that Hercolyn D is a mostly odorless fixative, that will push your base notes further. I was going to buy Ambroxan, but he said that would add too much scent to your finished fragrance. I'm thinking of adding some to a 10 ml decant of a weaker edt scent.

Thats why i dont judge the reformulation of fragrances easily because of the olfactory fatigue haha thanks for tips stevie!!!

I feel like this video was made for me I feel like I've been on this journey mostly because they don't last on me!!! I have a few heavy winter scents that do, but any lighter scents doesn't last! What are your thoughts on fragrance primers??? Does Molecule 01 work??

Awesome video! This is by far the most helpful video on youtube for fragrance lovers. One question though: How do you apply your fragrances? Say you are wearing Creed Aventus, where/ how many sprays do you apply? For some reason, I can only smell Aventus on my skin for about 2 hours max (I usually use 4 sprays on my neck). I just don't get why Aventus and any fragrance really never lasts and projects on my skin. Again, thank you for all of your help with fragrances

I would not apply fragrance directly on the skin as it dries your skin and long term use causes skin sensitivity. I don't know why men apply it to their face or neck. Do they want to age faster? To me, the best application is over the clothes and hair. I do that after I apply addition moisturizer to my hair and it lasts until I wash my hair the next day.

I've heard & tried in hair, back of my head, on clothing, cream ( basing) but never heard of molecule O1!. On neck .....YIPE! Some scents will burn your skin.

Never add fragrence over moisturiser, the alcohol destroys the cream allways put on your fragrence then apply the cream...Roja Dove knows what hes talking about.

Great tips!!! When I was wearing baccarat 540 extrait I sprayed it on my neck and in my hair and went nose blind to it and could only smell it for a few hours. I was wondering what the hype was lol 😂. The next time I wore just one spray on my wrist and found it lasted 12-13 hours.

The longest lasting Niche fragrances that I've experienced so far I think is Parfums De Marly Pegasus and Layton and for designer Versace Eros Flame which has been on a shirt of mine for at least 2 weeks now only thing about spraying it on your clothes if it sits too long ants will eat them

Great tips ! But I’m confused about Abercrombie Fierce which is a cologne but is a beast with projection and longevity?🤔
@Redolessence5 жыл бұрын
It all depends on the ingredients used and if it contains many fixatives or not. 4711 is all top notes, so it fades away quickly. Even if it were released in an EDP concentration, it still wouldn't last a long time. Thanks for watching!

Ive found your channel recently and I have to say I like your character and how you explain things. Keep up the work! I have one question: can you recommend a unique scent for hot summer days? right now Im wearing Aqua di gio Profumo and aqva amara but I want something, thats more unique.
@Redolessence6 жыл бұрын
I would be happy to recommend something unique. Do you have a certain price point?
@freddyb83486 жыл бұрын
thanks for the quick respond! no I dont, I think quality has to have its price, maybe not more than a creed aventus would cost.

On an unrelated note, I have noticed an interesting thing when I unbox my new fragrances. For the first few days, they do not perform well (some of them). But if I give them sometime, it seems they get better. I do not know what can be the reason ( a psychological effect etc. ) or maybe when they are exposed to some oxygen outside the box. Have you guys experienced and noticed such an effect?

Avalanche i noticed that the first 5-10 sprays from the new bottle of a familiar fragrance may smell different and sometimes awful. but that goes away.
