Bryan, does the Piper come with a remote start option? You know, for cold days? Start it while you're at home, and by the time you get to the airport, the cabin's nice and comfortable, right? You can have the plane de-frosted in the meantime as well. I hope they have an app for remote start too. Thank you for demystifying aviation concepts for mere-mortal, landlubbers like me. They have those but the FAA issued an AD that requires a Ring video camera be mounted so you can yell "Clear Prop" and visually check that the prop is clear before remote starting.

Remote aircraft operations are colloquially known as drone operations. Probably explains why drone operations have become so popular; no-one enjoys sitting there waiting for the lawn mower engine to heat the cabin.

I'm surprised you didn't add the one Alexa suggested. Rolling it down a steep hill and popping the clutch sounds like a great option when you can't get to one of your pull starters and your battery is dead.

Back when I was young and stupid....um, I mean, in better shape, err... You know what, let's just stick with stupid. Anyway, I used to push it out to the runway and then push it until it was going a little bit fast, then I would quickly jump in, put the prop in gear and pop the clutch.

Great stuff Brian. One thing you have to watch out for on the clapper version is if you have a excited passenger that claps with excitement. This could cause a loss of power in flight. This typically occurs during takeoff and climb out, or while racing your local warrior. I will typically unhook mine during my run up so this does not happen. Keep up the excellent work Brian. I’ve installed a new wing-mount pull-start on my RV-21. Love it! However, I’m a little concerned about doing air-starts after I’m finished practicing my low-altitude aerobatic glider air show routine. Can I use a reachy-wand for that procedure?

I have the Cox .049 spring starter on the Archer. I have to hook the spring around a prop blade, wind it backwards, then release and hope it fires without whacking my hands...

I have never only once told someone that I’m a pilot. It usually gets sipped into the conversation several/many times. A little disappointed the push start method wasn’t discussed.

That takes two or three people most of the time. Gliders seem to be exclusively push-start, although most of the time I see them using a tow strap instead of having people push it along.

KUDOS ... one of your most ingenious presentations. Have to say though, I was a bit nervous when you were securing you engine cover sooo close to a spinning prop. Still, there have been times were a pull-start or a kick-start would have come in handy.

Full transparency, I wouldn't go within 10 feet of a spinning prop. This was done using a split screen. I was nowhere near a spinning propeller.

Ok so I put the lawn mower on my hood man it works great! Had a broke down China 110 I robbed a kick starter off it. It almost caught but didn't have a long enough stroke... I've never used Alexa her idea was a tad dangerous, every time I popped the clutch it was trying to ground loop on me. But I did get her flying! I found the wires under the dash, no sparky for me??
