Great video! My tip is to start sketching outside is to just start out by sitting in your car and sketching something out the window. It’s less intimidating. Then work up to being in areas with more and more people.

Your whole "squint your eyes" and "reduce to simple shapes" is classic and something I think many artists forget to do, getting lost in the minutia instead of trying to capture the essence of a scene. Love the tips! Especially the change up your kit seasonally. I would've never done that since I have "my colors." I needed to hear that. My personal tip is to always keep a tiny sketch kit with you when you go out. You just never know when something will inspire you or you have a 5-10 minute wait somewhere. I love the Pentalic 3"x4" sketchbook and one or two pens or pencils. It's a real game-changer.

Loved the reminder to set a timer! I might start the sketch with the main points but sometimes I need that reminder to keep it simple and not muddy it up over time not knowing when to stop. 😅😂

Love these tips and the start small is a great one (just did the clouds prompt today) and it was in my small sketchbook, wise advice, also just got your calendar as I need one and those images are just lovely ! ❤

Do you use file covers to make your gatefold journal covers? And just cardstock for the insides?

I am interested in the Neocolor wax pastels, but I'm curious, do they smudge on the opposite page? Like would I need to put wax paper in my sketchbook between the pages I use them on?

I would maybe take with you some loose paper so that you can slip them in between the sheets. I don't find they smudge if I have diluted them with water.

Oh my the midges are quite relentless in some parts aren't they? Can you find a time of day when they aren't as active or areas where there aren't as many? Or just coat yourself in insect repellent 😅
