For context a packet of cigarettes in Australia is about €19/$39 AUD

I hope you enjoy your time there, your living out my 17yr olds fantasy, I read a book called Almost French by Sarah Turnbull, and being a smoker in 2004 was a bit different than it is now, id never smoke now, may I ask what made you choose France? Ive visited and always loved the thought of living there 🥰

Hi Imogen, I have a copy of that book, I haven't read it, but my mum really enjoyed it, so I'll read it one day (I have a long list of books to read haha)! I chose France, because I went to Paris on a school trip and love it - always wanted to live there and studied French in high school and a bit in uni. I'm glad that you've at least visited there. Since living there and now moving back to Melbourne, I can confirm that Paris is not as glamorous and liveable as it seems as a tourist, but each to their own.

This is a nice perspective. I'll be in France for 4-5 months for some experiments for my PhD. I too will be living 40 or so minutes out of Paris. Definitely will give your channel a sub and hopefully get some insight from another Australian. I'm curious, how much French did you know before moving?

I'm sure you'll have a time, all the best! I studied French in high school and a bit in university so I knew I would be okay. My language skills have improved, though I am not fluent. I recommend learning at least the basics - it'll be easier to get by.

I want the room tour :) Same in Sweden you need the receipt to get out of the supermarket.

It must feel strange for you to don't have to walk upside down anymore ;) Certain magasins ont des balances en caisses pour peser les fruits et légumes (some shops weight the fruits and vegetable at the cassier). Yes no AC, and maybe it's more a USA thing but no ice in our drink too. 40°c days are not something that happen a lot, and sadly it happens more recently due to climate change. Bon séjour.

Hahaha... but Australia is 8 hours ahead of Europe - doesn't that mean we're upside down over here ?? I did hear that ice coffee didn't exist here too. It's so interesting to learn about cultural differences, it really opens my mind to different perspectives. Thank you for your comment Pierre, bonne journée

Not everybody smoke. Acutally, it's about one out of three person. That's still a huge number but it's decreasing slowly.

That was a bit of an over-generalisation, but yes the number is high nonetheless; just something I'm not used to. Thank you for your comment:)

@@SarahBesley I get that, don't worry. I simply didn't want anyone to think you have to smoke in France to blend in a group. It was interesting seeing the viewpoint of an australian. I did hear there was basically no security in supermarkets in Australia because of the really low criminality. You're lucky ^^

You're right, since living here, I've met some French who do not smoke and I don't feel pressured to smoke like my friends. Yeah, occasionally there is security in the stores, but depends on the crime rate in the area. Security is usually just at the luxury stores.
