1. Eat veggies - nice smells 2. Propinquity effect - more time with someone, increases familiarity = ?attraction 3. Adrenaline - misattribution of feelings… an exciting activity induces feelings of attraction due to ⬆️excitability. 4. Right ear - left side of brain responsible for auditory processing and receives input from right ear = more influence in words? 5. Nervousness - evidence of romantic interest and trigger reciprocity?

I have noticed that eating a lot of fruit and vegetables( especially vegetables) makes people not smell bad, I think it is because your body becomes alkaline,when your body is alkaline bacteria can not grow and spread, when you eat unhealthy your body becomes acidic, when your body is acidic bacteria can grow and spread,bacteria causes bad smell.

I would amend, eat a COLORFUL diet of fruits and vegetables. Green-only for a vegetable diet won't give you that big variety of nutrients that we omnivores crave, nor are the greens effective at satiating your appetite.

The bridge adrenaline thing it's something I discovered myself when texting or talking to girls after a workout or running session. I was usually way more confident and assertive than when I would just be chilling. So if you feel unsure to what text someone or not confident enough to talk to someone might be useful to go for something that pump you up.

Same experience. I always noticed how I am way more confident and extroverted after jogging or something. The difference is actually insane. So noticeable in fact that I often times do it every time I want to become an extrovert. I do it purposely before going to class or to friends for example because I become about 5 times more talkative without any effort at all. I don't know why not more people do this. It's so useful.

In high school I used to hangout with the same group of people, mostly girls and a few guys, and we'd always be at my place due to me having the basement to myself and being a safe space for whatever ya wanna do. I was too shy to ever act on any feelings back then, but I know for sure at least a few of the girls were interested in me at various points throughout the years. Not only was there some kind of propinquity effect in play, but also the fact that I had a steady diet of mainly fruit, veggies and nuts as I had home-made smoothies almost every day. The third whammy to the combo is my innate nervousness that persists to this day.

Regarding #1 - I met two women, both from Southeast Asia, many years ago, in the mid 1990s. They both told me that they could smell the odor of people here (in the west) who ate meat (and possibly refined, processed foods but they only said meat). They both said that the smell is strong and very off putting. It seems to be released from the pores. Yuck! I heard that when I first went plant based and it made me feel much better about my choice! 😂

@@Psych2go 22+ years not eating animals. Around 13 or so years of that as vegan. The most diffacult part of being vegan mentally is actually seeing how much people I would otherwise respect try and justify animal abuse. Could be diet, but could also be because many East Asians have a mutated ABCC11 gene which greatly reduces the number of odorous sweat glands. It's why those of us who have the mutation don't need deodorant, and we certainly notice the smell of people who don't have the mutation (mostly white, black, Hispanic).

Meeting people is my biggest problem. I own my own company, work alone, do not drink nor have any friends. Depression and anxiety leave me not wanting to be in crowded places, nor do I like any events or activities in my area. Online dating has not worked. After 3 years, I'm at a loss as to how to find someone when any place I'd try to meet someone, wouldn't be my environment in the first place.
@Paavocado
@Paavocado Жыл бұрын
Maybe try looking a little bit further away for an event or a small course in something anything. Usually not that crowded in like I don't know, an on-site course in painting ? If you keep following the same pattern then you'll just get more of the same I know, I'm trying too. There is no judgement. Don't go with the intention of "meeting someone" there. Go for the hell of it. Just to do something. It's a start

@@PaavocadoIn my spare time, if I'm not gaming or camping in the woods, I'm tinkering in the garage. Unfortunately I dislike events in general and my interests are male dominated areas. Motorbikes, trucks, engines, bushcrafting etc. I'm very introverted and cant think of any social activity I enjoy more than being on my own property. Why meet someone in an environment I'll never be in again? I guess that's my reasoning for not trying, I would never be in "that" environment again, other than looking for someone, thus leading me to believe its a pointless venture.

@@GunfighterAlpha what I accidentally did was join an online community of people who share a similar hobby (e.g. nail art). Yes, it was only females and a few gay guys but I had severe social anxiety and desperately needed a friend. I attended a virtual meet up (Zoom) with people that live in the same city and we all decided to meet in person. I had no desires to date because I was terrified but it was my very first step to feel comfortable with people in general. Once I loved meeting up with them every week, I began desiring a partner besides relying on dating apps. I decided to join a community in my city that’s popular amongst men and women. I joined a swimming class, First Aid/CPR class, sailing club, swimming class and a cooking class. I befriended a few men and kept their contacts. I began seeing them outside of our communities by doing fun activities together (e.g. finding a cool-themed restaurants, bowling, movies). BABY STEPS!!! First focus on establishing friendships then get into environments were you can meet women. They don’t need to be based on a hobby. Learning a skill with classes (e.g. Cooking classes, language classes) are beneficial for everyone so try anything you’re interested to experience

Nervousness is actually not that surprising, as it shows that they scared they might mess it up in front of someone they care about and don't want to have an awkward relationship with, while being confident on a first date may be somewhat attractive to a certain group of people, but it can be taken to others as if the other person doesn't care much about them and doesn't want a close or caring relationship. I sat next to a random guy on a plane once, and when we were getting close to landing the plane suddenly dropped a few feet, as if the engines shut off or something. Normally there are little bits of that dropping sensation, but this was different, and TERRIFYING. Multiple people on the plane gasped, some screamed, and the guy and I just instinctually grabbed each other’s hands. And i suddenly realized that this random Joe Schmo I hadn’t spoken to at all on the flight was suddenly super attractive to me?? We started talking and had a lot in common- he was really cool! Unfortunately for me though he already had a girlfriend. But it was still an interesting moment!

I didn't know about propinquity effect until I watched this video. I am a person who is very vulnerable to affection....like if I feel someone is being nice to me, then I immediately start having feelings for them. Now, I think about it...I had several crushes but I never approached them but there was this guy in my college...the universe made us run into each other several times...so much to the extent that we eventually became close friends spending time with each other. And yes, I developed feelings for him within a short span. But, I knew he was in a relationship with a girl from different college...so I just ignored my feelings. We parted ways after the college...yeah, he randomly calls sometimes...but the feelings I had for him wore off. He had broken up with his gf...this might be the right time to confess if my feelings for him were strong. Now, I understand why many long time best friends end up in a relationship.

Wouldn't the misattribution of feeling go away or change once you find yourself in a similar situation without the same feeling? Or does misattribution first create a connection and individuals look for all signs to confirm or connect to that attribution and therefore develop genuine feelings of attraction? Fun fact: 1973 is when the Exorcist came out, one of the most classic of Horror movies!!

@p-smitty9791 To answer first part its not a constant just initial situation as said. Comparison is randomly hitting it off with a stranger the first time. You might be looking forward to second meeting but it might not be as fun second time around. The second part is less about the specific situation and more about the feeling. The fear effect with adrenaline is similar to romance and courting an some times more if catch drift. In those specific situation if you are with some one that makes your heart beat faster and assume it not a negative experience it can be exciting. Its not that different than if you were having a fun exciting date. Our brains can associate this experience as positive and have more interest than normal. The adrenaline can just make people more bold and the dump of the emotion will also make you more calm as the next thing is not as scary compared to what you went through. This of course does not mean every time get scared will experience misattribution. It is just something that can occur and explaining the why. Its also not something can easily manipulate. Doing exciting things can be great but as said if your constantly doing them either get use to sensation and numbs or its too stimulating and its no longer fun. Misattribution isn't a permanent thing its more explains how weird situations can some how lead to connections that wouldn't expect through shared experience.

You know a weird thing that increases attraction? When the bell rings, you may bump in to someone, drop all of you books and homework, and both of you will feel weirdly attracted to each other! (Especially if the other person helps you clean up and asks you your name.) This is seen as helpful because the next day, you might as well just meet in class, and if you already know each other a bit from yesterday's book fall, it will be less weird and awkward to meet each other again and the other person is less likely to get away from you.

I knew about the adrenaline/misattribution of feelings, but not the other ones. It was quite interesting, especially the eating veggies... I'll certainly have to adjust my diet. ;) One issue, the visuals when you are talking about the right/left ear at 5:28, the left error is show right after that and the brain hemisphere displayed are all reversed. Just thought you'd like to know.

5:43 It could also be because more people are dominant on their right side. When i think about someone putting their head on one of my shoulders id much prefer my right. This is because my right shoulder is stronger, and if they do anything weird ill have a quicker reaction time with more power. I wont have to turn my body if i need to push something away if they are to the right of me. Its the same theory as if you approach someone from behind versus their front. They're gonna be less wary of you if you approach from a place that doesn't make them feel vulnerable.

Strange things in girls that can increase my subconscious attraction... Perceived lustfulness, perceived strenght, perceived brutality and perceived evil streak. Not from a romantic perspective, it's obvious that I'm well aware those are not que kind of characteristics I should look for. But there are the one that make me subconsciously react the most. Now the important word was perceived, and it also work for girls who are attracted to a "bad type" of guys, as in, due to various traumas and issues, humans thend to go for what seem the most familiar and the most "real" in the sense of our warped vision of the world. If a girl enter a bar, and her issue make her believe that all men are supposed to be strong evil brutal pervert, chances are she's going to be instinctively drawn to the only guy in the bar that really fit that description, so that she can fulfill her self prophecy. If she fumble and end up with someone that do not fit her expectations, she will feel uneasy, and may try to push his buttons to see if she can reveal the "true him" hiding under his good person guise, never knowing when to stop until she make him snap like any normal person would. But those are fantasies about an archetype, they are childishly dichotomous in their perspective, which is why, as I was saying, it doesn't really matter if the person is really strong, really lustful, really brutal or really evil. They just need to look the part enough in their superficial appearance and attitude so that the suffering person can hang their fantasy upon their frame. Please note that if you believe this apply to you as well, seeking some kind of therapy may lower the symptoms. The first step is acknowledging that the misfortunes that twisted your childhoods were mostly not your faults. That the person(s) who hurt your view did not do it for this purpose, but rather they were too focused on their own problems. Adults are just old child who struggle knowing what to do. They don't have all the answers just because they are older. And everyone is mostly self focused. So stop blaming yourself for everything that went wrong. Admittedly, maybe you could have done a few things to make things better, but how were you supposed to know them? You were just a kid. Look inside of you. See this deep hole of suffering and emptiness you constantly try to fill with outside love or outside attention? It will never work. It won't work because it's like trying to fill a bath without plugging the drain. You have to give yourself love, attention, care, compassion, without judgment, for who you are now, but also for who you used to be. You have to look at those scary or weak parts of you that you cut yourself from, and removed the veil of shadows that made you reject them, to see them for who they are. Important but sad and damaged parts of you, scared or angry child parts of your personality that need to be helped, so they can grow, in a balanced, (not extreme) way, and become assets rather than flaw. Once you can manage to do that, then you can start rejecting the lies and misinterpretation you cemented your mental core with as you were growing up, replacing them with cold hard truth, but also softer comforting ones, making you that much more resistant because you are more complete and adaptive. Only then can you try building a genuine, healthy relationship with someone else. It's not magical, it take time and effort, but it's better than heading toward a dark fate due to subconscious self destructive pulsion you don't understand. Luck and courage to you all.

@@judyabd8651 Thank you milady. Usually, I get told that I write too much. ^^; Then again, young people on social media nowadays panic after seeing two constructed sentences in a row. XD I hope that wathever is haunting you, you can find the way to let it go so your focus can be turned toward a brighter future. Recently, I read someone's idea about how they got better after stopping to consider their parents as such, and instead tryed to view them as they were as kids, trying to understand what they went trough during this delicate period, what damaged them before they damaged the person expressing this idea, which in turn helped remove the childhood guilt they felt about various events that weren't their fault. It allowed them to feel empathy for these person, and this empathy helped in their process of reparenting their own inner child. I don't know if viewing things this way can help others, but it was somewhat comforting to me. Have a beautiful day, and take care.

It depends. I was meeting up with someone and he seemed a bit awkward and nervous from the start. But I would love to meet someone maybe also a little sassy, with a burning fire inside and confidence. It's like they aren't on the same level and its getting tired to me.. I would like to meet someone that can match my energy and sweep me off my feet by their behavior. Maybe I just am not attracted or able to love right now, but it did feel strange to me. When I like someone back, I don't mind the nervouseness too much. But here it felt a bit annoying to me. Maybe because I wasn't having the same thoughts or feelings.

So…I stopped liking my crush (for other reasons that I may say another time) and I started noticing his brother…now his brother is 2 yrs older than me, and we’ve had eye contact and I’ve talked to him very briefly. Idk if I should tell my ex crush or whatever…I’m super confused cuz idk what to do at this point! Please help me…

Hello! What exactly do you mean by crush ? Because, I thought that it was only an attraction you developed on a person. Or multiple persons... So why in the world would you tell somebody you're only attracted to that you find somebody else attractive ? Unless you told him that you liked him, I don't know what he's gonna do about it... Having crushes is normal, having "older" crushes is normal (two years is not that much). Talking to the person youre attracted ( I guess it's more physically admiting that you've talk to him very briefly) is great and you should try to be friend with him, to know him.

@@althae_the_dino makes a good point. Definitely depends on the situation. From what I read I’m going to assume that it’s best to keep it to yourself for now unless things progress with the older brother. Not necessary to be open to the original crush when nothing is really happening atm.

I vouch for the fruits and veg point. When my partner and I first started dating, I found that he often smelled really good. He smelled like homemade soup - herbal and comforting. As it turned out, he ate a fairly low-carb, plant-heavy diet. When he'd change up his diet and eat more sweets, his smell would become more like that gross BO smell boys get in high school.

I always loved how sweet my boyfriend smelled. I kept complimenting him for several months until a routine blood test told us the sinister truth. The sweet smell wasn't fruit and vegetable diet. It wasn't any kind of perfume or detergent. It was his blood sugar of 25mmol/L. He was rushed to ER with severe hyperglycaemia, moderate kidney and liver damage. He was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes shortly after. He wasn't even fat. His sugar intake wasn't over the norm. Doctors aren't sure what caused this.

I absolutely HATE when someone talks into my right ear! I’ve had a head injury on that side and hate people really even being near it, but also I have a bit of hearing loss on that side. So, I always tell people to walk on my left side, and so many guys must have heard this or something bc I swear they keep walking on my right side, and truthfully, I’ll actively try to not get close to people who refuse to listen to this simple request of mine, because I see it as they are trying to be controlling to me. I don’t usually tell them that the head injury impacts the reason I don’t want them on that side either, but I will tell them about the hearing loss, and I find that guys that typically don’t mind this simple request, usually do tend to turn out to be dicks. So, simply put, it they refuse to talk into my left ear, I’ll refuse to talk to them at all. A girl has to have her boundaries..lol!

5:47 when are nervous it will help you find someone that you actually like and probably make them like you back (or like you more) because in a state like this you will do more of a emotional action more than one with logical thought on it, even if you are thinking about all the bad things that could happen it also makes you unable to think clearly and the logical thought you can put on your actions becomes smaller and at the end this makes a more emotional response which for a romantic relationship is just what you need.
