A New Jersey family is suing an elevator company after a 5-year-old girl’s arm got caught in an elevator door. Zoe Garatziotis was rushed to the hospital after the incident at a building in Hoboken, New Jersey. She had 20 stitches in what a police report calls a "severe laceration." Her lawyer, Edward Capozzi, used the elevator in his building to show Inside Edition’s Steven Fabian what he says is the correct gap.

@BurntRaisinToast
@BurntRaisinToast 28 күн бұрын
Ridiculous. Why should they sue anybody for their own stupidity, negligence, & failure to properly supervise that child? Who allows their children to place their hands & limbs on moving mechanical parts of transportation equipment? What if that child stuck her fingers in between the steps of a moving escalator, or jammed her hand in a slamming car door - would you think the companies that manufactured those people-moving devices should be sued for the parents’ negligence in those instances as well? This mother is trying to push her failure onto someone else - ironically, further compounding her failure. Her children deserve pity, but not for the physical injuries she allows them to endure.

So escalators have a code that it has comply with. So that is a kid put its hand down it wouldn’t eat the whole hand or fingers. A car door is controlled by a person so you assume the risk and have human controlling it. This was an accident that shouldn’t have happened in the first place. It’s negligent. The door should have some kind of safety on it. This is something that should be seen as a risk. This is not just about money. This little girl has been disfigured. The parents had to pay the hospital bills co pays. For something that shouldn’t have happened. If it was to be installed to the codes to prevent this.

It's not really the elevator manufacturer's fault. The little girl's tiny hand got stuck in the small space between the door and the outside frame. It's a freak occurrence, however her hand ended up there we can't really see. It was a scary moment and I'm sure that kiddo will never play "will my hand fit" ever again. She learned an important lesson without being seriously hurt, which is all that matters. But there is no need to SUE anyone. Nobody is really at fault. That's why you should always teach your kids to not put their hands on the door, it doesn't matter if it's opening, you STILL don't put your hand on the other side of the door frame, and if it's closing you don't put your hand in front of the door, you wait till the door opens and then you can step out. PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF EVERYTHING THAT'S HOLY TEACH YOUR KIDS NOT TO BE SO FOOLISH AND TO BE CAUTIOUS. And I'm not saying this to hurt the girl's feelings, nor am I wanting to get hate. The difference is that it's more your fault than the furniture company's that you hit the table. There is also a difference in the amount of damage caused. People shouldn't bear the burden of refraining from touching elevator doors. Instead, elevator companies should ensure the safety of their doors, particularly since legal regulations assign responsibility to the installer or manufacturer and outline specific standards that must be adhered to.
