People do not have to use coinstar. Wal-mart sales paper rolls for your change. Once you roll it you can spend it at walmart. Trust me or call walmart they will tell you they take all currancy. Dont loss money from your hard earned money. I had an issue taking rolls of change to customer service. They tried to tell me they cant accept it. I said so your turning down money. They said no we are not accepting change in bulk. I said its money. I asked for a manager and told the manager. They had a huge meeting about the currency acceptance. All currancy is allowed. Please dont waist money on these machine.

A buddy of mine has a penny with the tails stamp like it was stamped over the heads side. You can see both heads and tails on one side. The local coin shop said they have never seen anything like it before and turned him away.

I say thank God for CoinStar machines! I regularly find all sorts if old 90% silver stuff--especially Mercury Dimes for some reason--left behind in their "Rejects Bin". I guess their slightly different weights throw off the machine.

Coin collector here. Abandoned homes are great places to find good coins, because they've sat there untouched for years. No finger prints,no scratches, just dust in most cases. I found a key date quarter from the 1820's worth about $15,000 , in pristine condition...too bad they drilled a hole in it , to make a pendant ! But, I've found other great coins in the last few years

There's websites you can go to. Also there's coin dealers in most cities. I sold a rare collection of VERY old coins my grandpa left me. Got half a million in cash and 70 K in gold. could have gotten SO much more if I sold at auction. But I needed the money.

You want me to sift through a bucket that deep with coins looking for a hard to see penny that could possibly be worth 50,000 but with the chance being so low I'd be better off taking all those pennies and buying a scratcher would be better worth my time. No yeah sounds like a wise idea on how to spend my time. It's like gambling but it takes several hours, and is about as fun as watching paint dry.

I found a weird penny once. My wife was rushing me out the door and I put it up somewhere meaning to check on it later. I forgot about it for like 6 months. Out of the blue one day it popped in my head and I looked it up. It was a 1974 aluminum penny. Problem is in that 6 months it got misplaced. Yep, I found a super rare coin in my pocket and immediately lost it. 🤦‍♂️

I inherited a small trash can of pennies dating mostly from the early 1950s into the 2000s from my father… I have sat on the living room carpet for eons to separate them first by decades and then by years… I really want to go through them all and I might even then need get rid of them, so channels like yours are helping me tremendously!!! I get the idea of trying to find valuable change but the issue is is that there’s a million different defects for all different coins of all different years and to a normal person wouldn’t know the different issue that are common and trying to find one or two specific things wrong is like finding a needle in a haystack compared to knowing many different thing that comes with years of doing this. The ones that’d be the easiest is to look at quarters and dimes to see if they’re silver or checking pennies with magnets to see if any are steel.

Never, take your coins to a coin star machine for any reason. You are always going to be ripped off. Not only because of the fee for using it. Coins will also not be counted and slip through. Even the banks that have these do just the same, just no fee if you are an account holder there. Always count and roll your own coins.

Gotta question the sanity of someone that will pay 50k for a penny, just because it’s got a few irregularities. Like who decides that those tiny marks are worth 50k.

This is why I’d rather collect pure silver and gold because yeah that penny might be worth a lot but only to people who want it (collectors) where as gold and silver has inherent market value.
