@@MedAnimationsNo, it isn’t. I think Nintendo is trying a new type of 2D Mario as they intend for player to revisit the levels for wonder seed which is also being the progression and flagpole give 1 so it’s not the linear progression we say in these games

@@MedAnimations Classic Mario have the linear path, power up which power mario up, a world map with path and a structure of linearity where player is exacted to move on from the previous level, even Mario world is. In this game, the classic fire flower, flight power up and star is missing and replaced with more scenario based ones like the elephant mario(There are clearly none as they are so common in the SMB games that it’s impossible to not show them in the trailer), some part of the world map don’t have set path and instead of the start to end gameplay, flagpole grant wonder seed where there is multiple of, which means levels aren’t one and done, more like the 3D games but also probably means less level count and ridable Yoshi is missing because of the playable ones, hence I feels like this is more mariovania or sandbox Mario than fans thought it would be. Plus, 2d Mario never did stylised art, they either go for pixel art due to hardware limitation, then pre-rendered with NSMB and I believe if it’s a sequel, the logical step is to have full 3D asset, they may not include full 3D asset because they have to hide some secret path behind walls which leads to more exploration based gameplay. Wonder seed is not star coin replacement, they are integral to progression just like flagpole used to be and the logo clearly hinting NSMB is still developing as usually mario games stylised the ‘Super Mario Bros’ part. I think this is more of a experimentation of new kinds of gameplay which maybe need to relies on the switch’s success to be successful and NSMB can be saved for next generation as it’s a more familiar gameplay wise. There is NPC with the flowers which is more of a 3D mario thing and the wonder flower is not a mechanic suitable to linear play as level typically just goes on in linear game and don’t need to change, this is sandbox then they can hide the flower and they can open up wonder seeds. It still would make sense to have timer(at least one which is hidden til 200 seconds) unless it is more sandbox like as it pushes the player forward instead of camping which is needed for a linear game, they didn’t because this discourage exploration. The purple coin can be used to collect wonder seed and the animation look similar to the old games because it’s to bring familiarity as like the reference location in breath of the wild which is needed for this game as it’s ‘too different’.
