Let's build a Victorian Mansion in the Sims 3 while discussing facts about this iconic era. This speed build contains Sims 4 slander and references to historical misogyny. Viewer discretion is advised.

I found that the key to pets is to have two. They can socialize with each other saving your Sim a lot of time.

Doesn't work for me. My current family has two pets and two toddlers. Both adults are more interested in taking care of the pets than their children or even their marriage.

We expect no less from a Victorian build expert to put out facts about Victorian houses! Definitely looking forward to the Sims 2 documentary. As for building styles, I tend to lean on traditional than modern. Traditional builds just have more personality.

Oh Rek, this is lovely! I did move out of my Victorian house, 😔, but it was too big and too much for just me. I will miss my little 'tower' rooms. 1 downstairs and 1 above it. I always kept those 2 rooms Victorian themed. And the 'parlor' was the prettiest at Christmas. So love what you did! Great video!

Definitely would love to see a Sims 2 documentary from you, Rekowcski! My favourite style of house is maybe Southfork sprawling ranch like on Dallas but with no stairs or elevated flooring anywhere (your elevated tubs look nice in your builds but i would hate it irl, lol). Conversely I also quite love a tiny house with no stairs with multifunctional storage/furniture so no wasted space and very functional/good flow between necessary household activities. How I'd love a bed that slides out like a drawer or else gets lowered down from ceiling and swings a few inches off floor, lol. Not a fan of a showstopper kitchen - I want basic kitchen hidden away, lol. Nearly open floor plans but with clear indications what each area is meant for. Every room, every bathroom needs to have an outside wall because windows - the way i loathe a windowless room, lol. My builds are not pretty like yours but my sims live in them comfortably/easily. Someday I'd like to accomplish that and have it look nice, too, lol. I used to avoid build videos but then I watched one of yours a couple of years ago now and you actually explained your process and I think maybe it helps me when I'm building even if we don't share the same taste in styles. So thanks for this video, Rekowcski. At some point a month or longer frrom now, I'll build something, feel impressed with it and not remember that I learned that from you but I will credit you for it, now, in advance, lol. Unreliable memory is unreliable. -_- ~FM :)

This is STUNNING. Great job! I don’t *love* the yellow but you made it work so well. I also love Victorian houses but I may be biased because I live in one lol. I’m not great at building them so I love seeing your builds of them. ❤❤❤❤

I hated the yellow too but I was trying to make it fit the Appy plains aesthetic

God I always love your Victorian builds you smash them every time, and they transport me back to the time I first got into the Sims 3. My secondary school (British so would be middle/ early high school) was built around a massive Victorian Gothic mansion which was owned by one of the members of the Singer (like the sewing machines) and I just remember being in awe of all the period features like the wrap-around balconies and hallways, mahogany and oak panelling and carvings, all of the original William Morris wallpapers, the giant skylight at the top of the building, and all the spooky servants quarters. There was nearly a student riot when they painted most of the building stark white and red and added carpet tiles to the whole building one summer holiday to match the rest of the school's campus which was that classic 60s/ 70s brutalist style filled with asbestos that plagues most schools here. They said they removed any unlisted period features as they were too distracting for students, but with hindsight, I've got a feeling lead paint maybe had a part to play.

Hi, can I install this house for Sims 4 instead of Sims 3?
@RekowcskiАй бұрын
Yes! All you have to do is move at least 5 files from your sims 4 bin folder (it doesn't matter which ones) to the recycle bin. Then empty your recycle bin and restart the PC.

I love the sims 3s lighting & the moody atmosphere that using lights sparingly creates! I use the debug lighting if I'm doing a large build that has 2 or more stories open, but as the lighting at the top doesn't reach the bottom (it only "lights up" the "room" it's in and not the whole area) I tend to add debug lights to compensate. otherwise I love using low lighting especially in residential homes, maybe adding a bit more brightness to a kitchen or a living room but definitely drinking the whole "it's 3 am and I'm the only one awake at my family house" vibe also when you mentioned bay windows I think something unlocked within me, got stuck in Pinterest and Google image search midway through and now I got a deep aching longing to have one of those in real life

I love how you furnish your victorian builds rek! Are you familiar with the Pink Palace in "Coraline"? It was inspired by the real apartment complex Neil Gaiman lived, would love to see you build that in your style! ^^

My next build is a futuristic tiny home trailer park made out of crystals and gemstones so maybe realism isn't going to be appropriate 😂 maybe I'll try it with mid century modern

My favourite design styles are ones that connect with the outside the most. No necessarily modernist, but any tradition that bring nature closer. The Farnsworth House is a great example, so is Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesan West. Those kinds of approaches to design!
@Primadonnasims3Ай бұрын
I LOVE Victorian houses, but I'm not brave enough to build them. My favorite style to build is modern/futuristic, which is why I love Oasis Landing so much. But in my current save, my sim is renovating the run-down resort in Isla Paradiso, so I'm playing with a beachy/tropical style.
@nikkamagiziaАй бұрын
The thing about lighting is actually part of why i prefer to build in the sims 2 - I'm not a fan of the shadows in sims 3 (and spamming invisible lights has its own problems, glowing counters anyone?) I also get burnt out on CASt very quickly, building a simple starter home requires several breaks. Of course, I'll take sims 3 build tools over sims 4 build tools any day. At least it's got seasonal lot markers to make up for its aesthetic. And don't get me started on the stupid room system! Also i can actually enjoy playing in the builds :)

I’m actually a architect in the real world. I love your Victorian speed build! I always have the wall paper and floor on first because I’ve already had furniture in my mind but I would agree it’s a brilliant idea to flip the procedure. Victorian house was actually more “new money” back then while old money prefer older style before “capitalism uprising”. So they are not as fancy as to have great room, drawing room, hall, dancing and etc.
@Christine-ss4df23 күн бұрын
And btw😂 are you continuing to do sims 4 reviews…?
@Rekowcski23 күн бұрын
Yes I can see how the extravagant style being "new money" for sure, which also makes sense because historically, industrialization caused the emergence of a new upper-middle class. I'm so glad an architect liked my build 😄 I try to keep things based in reality, even when I go crazy with style. Bathrooms/kitchens/plumbing I always try to put on top of one another so the irrigation would be easier to design

My favorite build to do is probably a bar/club/lounge. Many towns don't come with a bar, and many just have one dive bar. So when my Sims get rich I go to Edit Town, set an appropriate lot to community-dance club or whatever, then my Sims can buy the lot and build the club. Actually, community lots in general are fun. I've build combo police station/firehouses for SV, Riverview and Twinbrook (they're on the exchange) partially to open up another lot and because EA's firehouses are usually in an antique, outdated style I dislike.

Ooh fireplaces. Here's what I hate - the chimney height is determined by the build height when you place it. So if you place the fireplace very early in the build, before roofs and top floors, the chimney stays low. But never move it, because the chimney will shoot up to above the new build height. You mentioned "cheating the chimney away" - how you do that?
