In modern Turkey, after the monetary reform of 2005, the kuruş is 1/100 of the Turkish lira. Originally, Kurush was the name of silver European coins in Ottoman Turkey. Later, there was a coin of its own, the weight of which varied significantly.
The first Turkish Kurush was minted in 1687, in the Ottoman Empire under Sultan Suleiman II, to replace European coins in circulation. Initially, it was a full-fledged monetary unit, but later the content of precious metals in it was constant
decreased, and the exchange rate became floating, which in the conditions of the gold standard was a sign of distrust.
