A few points for you. -pee around your camp site marking your territory. It’s a warning to animals that it’s your area. - Although getting beaver fever (giardiasis) is brutal, it shows up in 7-10 days after you drink the water. So you’ll be close to a clinic by then. -Sea to summit dry bags are super heavy duty and may be what you’re looking for. -knor meals are a cheap alternative to mountain house meals. -Katadyn gravity fed water filters are money! -Kudos to you for living life to the fullest while you’re young! Cheers from AK🍻

Devils River if I'm not mistaken. Nice job. I'm also an avid adventure freak and hammock camper. I've settled on the Warbonnet blackbird XLC hammock and I've never looked back. Been using it for six years now and absolutely love it. Been using Sawyer filter for 7 yrs now. Its the best out there. Not sure why you had trouble. Not sure I would've tackled that in an inflatable but you did it. Good job

Nice Video! I was just adding a comment about the Sawyer. That happened to me once. Mine was plugged up like yours. I now learned to test them before I go on a trip. The simple fix if they don't work before you go on your trip is to put some white vinegar in it and let it sit for awhile. Then flush it out and it will work like new. I have nothing to do with Sawyer, but I do like that filter for backpacking where there is water. I will subscribe to your adventures. Good luck.

Y’all , be careful if you decide to do something this wild. About ten years ago you could paddle but was much diffidently saying overnite with only one public campsite available. 99.9 % if the land on both sides of the river is privately owned and they are very protective of their property. Do your homework. Tristan or anyone else who has been there please correct with any changes in camping availability. Keep up the fabulous work Tristan. Always enjoy your videos. Iam glad you survived The Devils River. Wish I could have been there . Byron/ Texas

Sure is some pretty country out there. I have never had good luck with the sawyer filters, I got off to a bad start with them, and they never got better, they were always clogging or allowing stuff to pass. I usually use some combination of stuff to treat my water, usually iodine tabs, bleach, or UV light in addition to an inline filter. I mostly just use the filters to remove the unpleasant tastes left by iodine and bleach. Glad you made it, thanks for bringing the video.

Lots of healthy Diamondback Rattlers to eat in that region, they get fat and long along the river with the nutria and rocky shelter. In this video, you put in at Bakers Crossing. I spoke to a Val Verde local who drove across a 10 ft diamondback which was crossing the Hwy several hundred yards north of the Bakers Crossing campground. Another local ranch hand, said, he was leaving Devils River State Park at pre dawn when he stopped on the county road to watch a Diamondback slowly cross the maintained dirt road. The road is 14 ft wide. I also have seen many fat Rattlers lying in the road along Hwy 163, but (30 yrs back)the largest was close to the Pecos River and Interstate 10. It was stretched across a two track ranch road which I measured the spot next day at 14 ft. These are not the only large Rattler stories. I have listened to locals tell me 10 ft encounters along 163 South over the years before cell phone cameras. We grew up playing in the Devils River; hence, many friends have made the same river trip except using canoes. I have often had night mares of paddling through the tall grass to find a Diamondback raised up two or three foot high to have a look-see finding me looking back eye to eye!

Sometimes those water filters take a second and a good squeeze to work its way through the filter and come out the other end.But yes some of them are too tough. I'm thinking about doing something similar soon with my kayak going from the river, which is essentially a Creek around here.People kayak in all the way to the tennessee river

Great video! I'm an avid hiker and have had the same problem with sawyers in the past. What helps if you get some water in the filter and let it sit for a bit. It helps prime it. Also if your putting them away for the season, back flush them with distilled water with no minerals. Minerals from tap water or drinking water will clog them up too. However i recommend using the "platypus quick draw" water filter. Waaaay better then sawyer.
@AZBADBOYz
@AZBADBOYz 2 ай бұрын
Yes, highly mineralized water like that clogs all filters up quick. I use the MSR version and still have the same issue. I backwash mine every other day. Just make sure you do it with water you filtered already so do it before it's too late.
