As a critic once pointed out..the IDEA of these Wayans spoof movies (put black people in typical white people movie scenarios) has the *_potential_* to be funny and smart and insightful, but they're just wasting it all by not even trying to take the initiative. They're not even trying and these movies are just wasting potential.

I understand why they didn't include Marlon Wayan's slave comment, but the speech Korey gave in response to it was probably the most enlightening and eloquent things I've ever heard from him. I think it deserves to have it's own video.
@JeonardShadby5058 жыл бұрын
Actually, Marlon Wayans has said on Twitter that he doesn't make any money from these spoof movies, because these are passion projects for him. And if THIS is what he considers his passion...he needs to find a new fucking passion. He needs to remember that good parody should be as funny to people in 2116 as it was in 2016, and that AIRPLANE! and NAKED GUN were funny because the actors were deadly serious about the material and never mugged toward the camera to yell at you "YOU CAN LAUGH NOW." And if you're gonna do jokes about racial stereotypes, do something new with them, like Key and Peele do. The man has talent; REQUIEM FOR A DREAM and DON'T BE A MENACE TO SOUTH CENTRAL show that. Too bad he doesn't wanna access it.
@Jayfive2768 жыл бұрын
7:50 - And thats why things like Airplane and the Naked Gun worked. They played it straight. Completely deadpan. Everything that happens in that film is normal in the context of the film. Thats what makes it funny. Hell, Airplane was more or less a shot for shot remake of an old film called Zero Hour with a few gags added. Compare and contrast with everything from Scary Movie onwards where everyone's mugging at the camera as if to go "HEY! DID YOU SEE THAT! DID YOU SEE THE JOKE! WE TOOK THAT THING FROM THAT THING AND DID A JOKE! DO YOU SEE! LOOK! RECENT CULTURAL REFERENCE! WE ACKNOWLEDGE THIS THING EXISTS! ISNT THAT FUNNY!?!?!?" Corey man, you should have just reprised your old spill review of Vampires Suck. You don't need all these words, only two are required.
@nono95438 жыл бұрын
+Jayfive276 I once took a class in writing discussing how to do comedy. Either have the main character be the only sane person in a ludicrous world. Or visa versa, have a crazy character be within a more grounded reality with as you said, deadpan people. This is the type of comedy Naked Gun was attempting and succeeded in. Looking at the trailers for 50 Shades of Black, I'm not sure what kind of comedy they were trying to go for.
@Jayfive2768 жыл бұрын
Darrius Cooper It's like the Scary Movie things, it's the comedy of recognition. Like I commented when DT did the trailer for this and as Corey says in the review, this film is essentially "Black People Be All Like... - The Movie". Not to mention that in the sense that is uses crass stereotypes it's racist to both black and white. And contrary to what some might tell you one does not cancel out the other.
@lucysixm8 жыл бұрын
+Jayfive276 There's a special version of Airplane that intercuts with the original Zero Hour, which the producers had purchased the rights to in order to make the parody. Neilsen's line about good luck, we're all counting on you, is taken directly from the movie. And its one of the reasons its so funny. Worth finding the DVD for it.
@TankNBeans8 жыл бұрын

If you're looking for Cyrus and Brian Salisbury, they have their one site called OneofUs. Look it up and they usually do reviews with other guests of the show. And Carlyle and Cryus have appeared as guests on the DoubleToasted videos, but on their main website, where you do have to pay a monthly subscription, but it is absolutely worth the hours of entertainment a week, the crew does 5 shows (hours of podcasting and videos) a week. LOl I love this review. I hate it when people of my own race accuse me of being an "Uncle Tom" or "crab" or whatever when I criticize people, like Marlon Wayans. I only show support to people who have talent! Race and ethnicity doesn't matter. Why should I support someone just because she or he is black? Criticizing someone just because of their race is racist. Supporting someone just because of their race is racist. It works both ways. Just like the idiots who voted for President Obama just because of the color of his skin without even reading up on his policies and he stands for. Sorry to bring up politics. Now I'm rambling. Way to go, Korey and Korey due! :D Keep tellin' it like it is! :) That's why I come to DT because I know y'all don't bullshit or sugarcoat.

I have a lot of love for Don't Be A Menace To South Central While Drinking Your Juice In The Hood, but that film was made a long time ago and the Wayans have not been anything other than terrible for a while now. I can't speak to the experience of being a black dude in America (since I'm white and British) but it seems grossly unfair to say Korey is "keeping brothers down" by criticising shit films that happen to be made by/feature black people. Fuck that, it's intellectually dishonest to give someone a pass because you're the same race in an unbalanced society. To put it bluntly, African American (or anybody's) cultural output won't progress in a meaningful way when people are let off for churning out shit because of race. So, stay honest guys, we love you for it.
