Aww glad to see you enjoyed the Birthday-gift. Shaduff was actually the one that found this and I decided Adam would need it. If I would have know I would have definitely sent some nails. But yea I would be interested to see you use it to draw something a little more intricate or try the settings to trace things in different sizes.

This is a plastic kid version of a traditional drafting and drawing tool called a 'pantograph'. They have been used since Ancient Greek times. Google it! The info is cool.

Oh this is so weird, I was literally looking for a device like this on Etsy yesterday! It’s called a pantograph, btw. It’s what artists used to reproduce drawings at a bigger or smaller size, before magnifying projectors were invented. 😆 There’s a wikipedia page about them and everything!

Actually, this thing picked my interest cuz I HATE redrawing my sketches on a bigger scale, and stuff like this can really help with that 🤔🤔🤔 And as an instrument of an art-theft? It probably would be obvious since the quality ain't that great and art-theft usually ain't got enough art-skills to pull it off

Tools like this were devised during the renaissance, I think. A modern equivalent tool is the opaque projector. It really isn't meant to be used for fine detail, but rather a tool to help you attain the same proportions of the original (whether a drawing or a photo) so that you can attain a good likeness, or get the perspective correct. But it's also just fun!

Oooh this could be good for sketching a portrait, to get proportions right before going over with paint! I definitely struggle with that, and I hate drawing up grids, so this could be a fun alternative 😂

This thing is pretty nifty! I would have loved to have this in college. I had such a hard time getting used to drawing larger. I like to draw small like Steph.

Oh it was your birthday? Happy belated birthday! I think that device is so cool. As kids we used to make something like that ourselves, with two pencils tied to a ruler, but now this scientific, professional version is much cooler. Very amazing.

Hi doodle guys. Steph, buy some kinder joy Easter eggs. The very small joy ones made for Easter. They have little cute animals you can draw. But some eggs have egg painting patterns in them so buy a few.

Yay I’ve been looking forward to this! What a SCIENTIFIC device. Besides being kind of a novelty/toy thing this actually seems useful if you wanted to replicate one of your drawings at a bigger or smaller size for a finished piece. And yes we should definitely see how it does with Adam’s art!

Oh my goodness, this took me back to my childhood! Yes, I owned a Sketch Master 🤣. I cannot remember getting any fantastic results using it (my expectations were probably way too high) and think it more than likely ended up shoved in a cupboard and then binned at some later date. Great fun to see you using it though. Love the 14b pencil…so dark ☺️

Loving this lol. I just ordered a bunch of vintage art supplies from eBay, because I’m a 35 year old non adult and need fudillment from crayons and frigging old watercolors and drawing sets, lol. Also, what is your secret to a lasting relationship? You both are just adorable and still supportive with compliments and just laughing and enjoying one another. This thing reminds me of Spirographs for some reason and now I would love to see you both create art with those! Last year I bought a big set of them on Amazon and have made some fun things, also when you mess up with them it turns out pretty hilarious which is also entertaining! an idea for the Amazon wishlist :)

Nice stuff. Fun tool seems familiar. Nice pencil, I recently got a set of mars lumograph black which is by staedlter and I believe are graphite/carbon mix they are very dark less shiny and harder to erase. I really like them so far. I also got the faber castel ‘dust-free’ erasers which are excellent and erase these and coloured pencils amazingly but I don’t understand what they mean by dust free as they leave eraser bits. I recommend both!

omg this is awesome! you could trasfer your sketches to canvas and stuff. you could try using a felt tip pen to do the drawing to see clearer on the camera :3

As I recall, the Sketchmaster was based on an old school drafting pantograph which was used to scale architectural drawings up or down.

I think something with a little more detail, that wouldn't necessarily drive you crazy to try and sketch, would be something like a giraffe? The pattern and all could be fun to try and get right, maybe a picture that's like...just the neck and head of the giraffe? I think that could be fun to try.

There is a modern version that uses leads in the drawing tip. Its metal so it draws better.

I think it’s really interesting how tracing products have been professionally marketed as means for becoming artists for years on end, but in the recent years, the idea of tracing has been getting frowned upon

Can you get your hands on an old Spirograph? You can sometimes pick up the old ones in charity shops. Great fun.

this looks like something that would be used primarily to upscale your drawings and such? like, if you sketch small and want to keep that but bigger you could use this to trace it and upscale it

ah yeah the directions to resize i think really make me think it's to trace and redraw something and you can use it to get a cleaner set of lines (assuming it was more stable) so your sketch can be messier and darker
