A Vietnam veteran has shared the beautiful moment he was finally able to meet his Amerasian daughter for the first time, more than 50 years after he was forced to leave the country when the war ended and lost all contact with his Vietnamese wife, who was six months pregnant at the time. Bob Andron, 77, was legally married to Linda Throng's mom, Lin, while he lived in Vietnam between January 1970 and January 1971. A sergeant with the United States Air Force, Bob was an English specialist and an English language instructor, improving airmen’s use of the language. But after a year of service, Bob, was forced to leave and had no way of keeping in contact with Lin, given that he didn't have her Vietnamese last name when he left for the United States. For decades, Bob wondered what became of Lin and his child, until one day he received a call out of the blue from genealogist, Kristee Mays, who specializes in reuniting veterans with lost biological family members.

@@PlusTres She lives and works in Texas. I'm retired and more or less sedentary in Virginia. Plus her son, my grandson, is coming and since he's a teacher, will be tied up until then. We talk on the phone at least once a week to get to know one another. 👍

When Linda said “Daddy”, the tears wouldn’t stop. Having never known my father, or the feeling of being Daddy’s little girl… that struck hard. Linda is such a beautiful woman and such a loving daughter. The bond was immediate. Such a miraculous story.

I had exact same experience. My daughter found me after 47 years and I had no idea she even existed. After meeting her for the first time, she has become a most loved part of our family and I'm happy to say everyone fully accepted her and loves her so much. Like this girl, my daughter calls me often, always wanting to know how I'm feeling, my health, etc. I just wish so much that I had found out about so many years ago. This experience lead me to become involved with helping other Vietnamese find their American fathers. Sadly, so many either deny they have a child, even when presented overwhelming evidence, or they outright reject them. What POS's those type of men are.

@@CabinFever52This man was married to his daughter’s Mother but majority of the American servicemen were married to American women back in the states. Many servicemen had babies born from one night stands with Vietnamese women overseas. There’s many documentaries online of orphanages with 1/2 White 1/2 Vietnamese and/or 1/2 White 1/2 African American children physically disabled and/or mentally delayed due to various reasons esp the chemical effects of agent orange the American serviceman sprayed to rid of the jungle plants during Vietnam war. The chemicals affected the water and fertility. Other orphans were left behind due to shame of being born of wedlock Vietnamese Mothers. Very sad. Glad this father and daughter embrace and love each other despite decades apart.

I can perfectly relate meeting my dad the first time at age 52. He didn't know I existed didn't even know my mom was pregnant when he left the Philippines. I was already a widow with 4 grown up children and 9 grandchildren when I found him. From the very first time I found him in the internet and talked to him on the phone, it took me 8 months calling him every single day checking on him as he was living alone and sickly and already 80 years old. I did all I can to be able to visit him here in the US in 2016 and took care of him . He never got married and I am his only child. I took care of him until he drew his last breath. My dad was poor and a recluse but he had a very beautiful heart. If I have to live my life again , I will never wish for another dad but him. The few years we were together, he left me the most beautiful memories I will cherish the rest of my life. He was my childhood dream come true, and I was a miracle for him. Finding him was one of the very best things that has happened to me.

I had a similar situation. My daughter came looking for me when she was about 21. Found me through Facebook. Her mother had moved a few times and changed her family name so I had no idea where she was. It was such a joy to finally meet and talk and we arranged to catch up within days of that. She’s since gone on to have 2 daughters of her own and I’m in regular contact with them all to this day.

Sometimes women don’t even tell the guy they are pregnant if they just rather cut ties with the guy. That or giving the child up for adoption is an alternative to abortion. That said obviously it’s best to be in a committed marriage before acting like you’re married or saying your committed when clearly your not. I am very happy that families are reuniting. It’s awful that women keep or get rid of the fathers kid and men don’t even always know. I’ve had friends abort kids, hide kids, and put kids up for adoption all because they weren’t ready for marriage and family, but did the stuff that you do when you’re married that leads to a family. But even though there might have been lost years in these cases, they don’t have to be lost moving forward.

I had a similar situation but because of the way my mom was in her vindictive ways I haven’t seen my dad in for 45 years and finally found him a year and a half ago 92 years old still up and around does yard work , changes oil I didn’t know he was only 2 1/2 hours away from us.

This gives me hope. I still haven't met my dad. Only found out my " dad" was my step dad at 55 years old. Just before my mother died. She didn't tell me very much about him. But he was a child of about 10 years old in france during WW2 and i think jewish. He was sneaked out but his parents ( my gra grandparents were killed) they sent him to USA and that is were he met my mother. My mother was living in southern Saskatchewan Canada and i was born in south Saskatchewan. I grew up in Alberta Canada. And i am now 70 years old. It would be nice to meet my father, if he is alive. Just to know.

He was not forced to leave Vietnam, he abandoned his pregnant wife like thousands of other American soldiers. He might have Impregnated few more Vietnamese women and his other kids are not fortunate enough to meet him.

@@bhadwamodi8294 There were many sad stories happened in war for both Vietnamese and Americans. Without knowing the details, one could not know for sure. After the war, both countries did not establish normal relationship until 20 years later. People on both sides had to move on with their lives. As active soldier, one had to follow order to leave or to stay. Once the communists overran the South, how could he get back to Vietnam to look for her? Vietnam between 1975 to 1995 was like an Eastern block Communist country where normal Westerners were not welcomed and viewed with suspicion. There were Vietnamese parents, in the last days of the war, handed their children to strangers who had ticket to leave Vietnam knowing their kids future would be better with strangers than to stay back home with them under the communists.

That is so sweet! I have a Goddaughter that was adopted from Vietnam in 1975. I hope she's been able to find her Vietnamese family. They put her on an evacuation chopper to save her life. That's what a Mothers love will do...

This is such a heartfelt reunion. But the veteran could have done many things to make sure he reunites with his then pregnant wife, why did it take 50 years? Sir did you not make any attempt to bring your wife and child to America. This lady carried that love for her father rather than resentment..my respect to the mother who raised her well. I can imagine what she herself must have gone through in the waiting❤

What a phenomenal event! Even at 50 years of age, the genuine joy that this beautiful woman shows is awe inspiring! And the culmination of a lot of work on her part by finally uniting with her daddy is well worth all of her hard work. Such an emotional high! If your survive the war, after the time you were assigned to be there, you get to come back to America, or to another military base somewhere else... Yes, probably a lot of soldiers are Fathers of a child and that is sad.... But one day, all Families will be reunited for Eternity...

Tami..we don't know the whole story on his side ..as to why he didn't contact her. Back then the country is still at war when the Americans were sent back in 1972. I'm also born in that country and growing up there. So if you live in a war torn country like that..you run from one village to the next..when fighting broke out. Very much like what's going on in Ukraine. So since contacting by mail takes more than a month to get there..by the time it does..she might have gone somewhere else!! Then there's no personal computers or cell phones during the 70s either!! So how can he contacted her anyway? When I first fled VN ..I came here and wrote back to my friends..a few times during the mid 70s..but there's no reply!! It took years later due to my brother going back to visit to find our friends. They were not living in the same place any more! Then a few years on..with social media/ cell phones..we were able to connect! We didn't meet face to face until 40 years later!! So that's why this story to me is also amazing as mine reuniting with my friends after 40 years!!

I long for the day that I will finally be able to hug my little sister again. When my mother kicked me out, she never let me see her again. She was 10, now she is turning 18 in a few months. I cannot imagine waiting 50 years to hold her, but if this is what it takes, I will. Stories like this give me the strength to hold on to hope. Thank you ❤

We have spent so much time together since and I got to hold her in my arms again ❤️ I even introduced her to our father, who has waited for this moment far longer than I ever did! It is so special how just genuinely happy and grateful she was to have met her father. No inhibitions or anything, just pure happiness to finally have him in her life. Sometimes with these reunions you can sense a bit of pain or sadness, probably from all they’ve been through missing a parent in their life but this was just pure joy. So happy for them. Thank you for sharing such a beautiful moment. It gives others out there a lot of hope ❤

I met my biological father for the first time when I was 53 years old, and it was the biggest mistake I ever made. Found out very quickly that I’d been better off without him and that my mother had been right to keep him away from me. Glad that it worked out for these two, though.

Continuing to breed more hopeless children with multiple Marriages. Complete selfish lunatics!! Grand parents gave the example of what it’s like feel love and safety. It’s an impossible journey to imagine the loneliness and longing. You feel like moving furniture and are just labor and free babysitting. My son Kelly never knew his Dad. Recently, he found out that his Dad died early in 2000. I never talked ill of him. But most of ALL Kelly MUST understand he's ONLY here to meet his Heavenly FATHER! Dad's down here (good or bad) are NOT Forever. But we honor our father and our mother because they give us the opportunity to live ETERNALLY with JESUS, the Lover of our souls. My son is still mourning and trying to figure out life. 50 years ago I was atheist, but JESUS saved me! AMEN! I discovered I was NOT born to die and go to Hell! PAPA GOD touched me when I asked Him in the name of JESUS! That was CHRISTMAS EVE in 1972! I woke up CHRISTMAS MORNING, BORN AGAIN! HALLELUJAH! 🎄💝🙏🏼🙌🏼❤️

Mister Ri. Maybe she was better off in her culture than she would've been in Anglo-Saxon culture where people are very individualistic and you're left to make it on your own. A lot of other cultures are highly family oriented and all the relatives step in to help raise the child, perhaps even the rest of the community. Not all cultures are like ours and so she might have been good despite the situation.

The search for one's identity, who am I, and where did I come from? This lovely young lady and her quest to find the answers has changed the lives of these two people forever. She was lucky to have found him still alive, healthy, and with open, loving arms. One chapter has ended with joyful closure. The next chapter has begun.
