tractionerag.com 50 Years of Kicks is finally on our own KZfaq channel! It stars old timers Paul Rodden and Larry Murray in a motorbike documentary similar to On Any Sunday. 50 years is a long time to ride dirt bikes and these guys are still getting their kicks from riding, hence the title. We love old motorbike riders and these guys are an inspiration for us older dirt riders as we get into our 50s and beyond. Paul Rodden is in his mid 70s now and we often get the massive privilege of dirt riding with this inspirational guy with Paul on his Beta Xtrainer. As Barry Morris put it "So the theme here is you are only as old as the bike you feel. This vid is all about trying to keep up with a senior citizen and his Beta Xtrainer... and he's been a huge inspiration for many. I got to know him through a famous documentary made by Traction eRag in 2012 and I got permission to reproduce excerpts of the original vid here. So thanks for that Traction eRag, but no thanks for working me like a slave while I've been visiting Canada. Surely there must be laws against forcing me to work long hours and only feeding me once or twice a week on their performance-based meal provision system. I hope Canadian hospitality is better in other parts of the country. Anyway turn up your hearing aids and enjoy 50 Years of Kicks".

Talking of old dirt riders, Larry Murray has been riding off-road motorcycles for over 40 years. Larry is in great riding shape and uses wisdom, skill and treachery to dispose of riders half his age. Larry Murray offers us a viewpoint only those with a lifetime of experience can offer. He is 67 years old and a great example of an old rider still doing it in the dirt! Larry is the co-star of the “Fifty Years of Kicks” short documentary film found on the Traction eRag channel that is similar to old dirt bike docos like On Any Sunday featuring old dirt riders.
By Motojournalism and Traction eRag, this documentary about off-road riders Paul Rodden and Larry Murray two venerable motorcyclists who just won't stop doing what they love. More info and behind-the-scenes at motojournalism.com

This video was original released in 2016 on the channel of a production partner. We just never got around to uploading it to our channel as well! The good news? As of 2024 Larry and Paul are still riding.

These old guys are great, wicked video !! I am only 48 but one of my best riding friends is 74 and he goes like stink, he backs away from nothing, rides 10 hour days without bitching and every time we welcome new young men onto rides you see them thinking oh shit it's gonna be a slow day - 10 minutes later they are wondering wtf and even more so when we stop and chat and they find out his age....KEEP GOING MEN AND WOMEN, stay fit as you can and keep riding 🙂

Being 63 and still riding as hard as I have in my long career of riding and racing, these guys are who I hope to be in my 70’s and older!

What a fantastic mini, doco. Paul and Larry, you are an inspiration. I can’t ever imagine not riding, I don’t know what I would do. Here’s hoping I’m riding into my 70’s and beyond. @traction eRag, well done and keep em coming 👍🏻

I met Larry at the Cord 2 years ago. When I recognized him I said: " I wanna be like you when I grow up". I'm 42. What a legend, so nice and so humble.

This video is tragically underrated. As someone who picked up an enduro bike as his first motorcycle at 48yo, this provides so much inspiration. I've climbed rock, ice, and alpine in my 20s and early 30s, picked up MTB at 35 and then in 2021 my cardio ability got squashed by post-COVID complications. I'm adrift without something that brings adventure to my life. My wife has had cancer three times and she's only just hit 45. We have only been riding 6 weeks and put nearly 900 miles of dirt on our 501s and already met and made friends with some fantastic people. I'm so incredibly thankful to have found something that feeds my soul and this video is inspiring. I want to be that 70+ rider still getting after it in the woods feeling like a 4 year old wondering what's around the next corner. Thank you! Dum vivimus, vivamus! (while we live, let us live)

These guys talk just like my father does about hunting. He has always said if he died in the woods chasing whitetail or chasing elk through the mountains then he would be a happy man. No need for a burial just let the bears and lions get him. He's also always said the mountains and forests have blessed family with food since he was a boy. So it may ask for a gift in return. He's 67 and still bow hunting like he's in his 30's and 40's. Also still gets out and trail rides with me a couple times a year.

I had a Honda 70 for my first bike. MAN I drooled over the Trail 90..I figured if I had one of those, my life would be perfect. I am 65 now and looking to get back in the dirt after a 45 year hiatus. I've put it off far too long. I bought two nearly complete dirt bikes (boxes of parts and frames) for $100. A YZ125 '88 engine. An 89 YZ 125 frame. A '90 YZ 250 engine and an 89 YZ 250 frame.. Ginna restore them both to factory fresh and go terrorize the mountains around here...at low speeds ;)

@@TractioneRag I have always enjoyed wrenching on things. The added thrill is that the owner had dismantled everything down to the frame so it is like putting together a puzzle. I've been digging eRag and those Aussie guys at Cross Training...your narration styles remind me a lot of the dry wit of Warren Miller! You got Oz and Canada covered. Time I think, to fire up an American branch ;)
